Evert time I think about them I only remember the good days. Not the 200 other days that I practiced casting and helped Exxon to record profits 😆 nomolites 1

Then why wouldn't a Clouser? 🤷♂️ I was of the same impression while at jigfest. I threw a green and white clouser while others were throwing jigs. I never got bit. Were the other's jigs green & white? were the Clousers and jigs made of the same material, bucktail, marabou, rabbit strips, whatever? Clousers and jig of the same weight? So many variables that can put the lure on the 'do not eat list', 6" of depth or a bit too fast or slow on the retrieve.

But honestly bucktails of any kind have never been good trout bait for me. It's kinda why I asked about your experience with the Clousers. I wonder how the OP is doing with finding the right fly rod.

Saved him lots of money and frustration. 👍 If not I actually have a pretty decent BRAND NEW 9' 5wt. outfit I'd sell very reasonably. Bought a 5 and a 6 because I wasn't sure which one I wanted......and I've settled on the 6wt. tjm 1
Members Big Mike Posted December 30, 2023 Author Members Posted December 30, 2023 Well I ended up getting a 5wt 9ft rod. Went the the river this morning right at daylight with no luck. Decided to go to the park to practice casting. I threw wooly buggers exclusively and caught around 10 and best color was black. I had way more bites but it took me a while to get the hang of it. I tried different retrieves but most were caught on a fast retrieve in the middle of the water column. I did catch a few letting it bounce slowly along the bottom. I think I’m hooked:) here a few of my better fish. BilletHead, tjm, fishinwrench and 2 others 5

I stayed out of this one but probably not the next discussion.😁 tjm and Daryk Campbell Sr 1 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!"
