It seems everything has gone to online shopping.   Just too easy and selection is massive.

Yup. And, fly fishing catalogs have dried up. I used get them from Marriott's, Dan Bailey, Feathercraft, K&K, Cabela's, LL Bean, Orvis, Madison River Fishing Co., other's I'm sure I'm not thinking of.

I read the other day Orvis is stopping all catalogs going forward.

Are Hargrove's and Feathercraft doing OK as far as you know?

Yes I believe so.   Feathercraft went online about as early as anyone years ago.  I think their online business is substantial.   They still have a catalog.

I still get F-C catalogs but haven't ordered from them in many years.   For some reason anything I order from them takes FOREVER (a week or more) to get here.    I can order from Marriott's in California and it will be delivered in a couple days.

I’ve had good luck with Madison River Fishing Co.

I was looking at them today to see what they’re up to, and ended up buying a fly rod that I had been eyeing that was now on sale.

                          Tru dat Pete,

But there is nothing like picking out your own material. Bucktail is the first thing that comes to mind. I will just miss that shop. We go way back. I do mail order though.

I have used Madison river also.

To go along with what Glen said I have not used Marriott's but have used The Fly shop out there. Grat service and can get the stuff faster than F-C for sure.

I might buy synthetics and hooks online or mail-order but the majority of my flies are natural materials, and feathers, furs, hair, straw etc. need to seen in person. I even buy gadgets and paraphernalia I don't need and likely won't use along with random flies that I don't tie and rarely fish,  when I pass through a 'new to me' shop, knowing that those items help keep the doors open. Some shops use eBay to boost their sales, and when the last two shops in this area close, that will be my first place to look.

The thing I really like about Bob Marriott's is that if there's any doubts, questions, or if they happen to be out of stock of something they personally call you immediately.....and they really know their stuff well.

F-C would just ship whatever they had in stock, and you wouldn't know that the order wasn't filled completely until whatever they ship gets delivered.   That kinda stuff doesn't fly with me.
