Dock-in-it Posted February 10 Posted February 10 I got out this morning and fished until 8:30 and the swimbait bite was pretty consistent. I used a 2.8 Keitech on different jig heads (1/4, 1/2, and 5/8). The heavier jig heads were used on a baitcaster and helped in making long casts with iced up guides. The LM seemed to prefer the upper water column (10-20ft) and the K's were postured deeper (20-40ft). I had about 8 keepers and just stayed in one area due to the brisk/cold wind. I kept the boat in 30-50 FOW and the area had plenty of trees and the shad were in very small pods throughout the water column. The vertical fish under the trolling motor are pretty tough for me to catch, they seem like they are just enjoying the shade of the boat. You can aggravate some into biting, but I like casting and using the swimbait away from boat. I caught the pictured LM on a 1/4 oz jig with a 2.8 and they were postured high (10-20ft). Did not see another boat!! WT 45.8 Quillback, snagged in outlet 3, Ron Burgundy and 2 others 5
Lvn2Fish Posted February 10 Posted February 10 It’s crazy how many love to hang out under the boat/motor . I’m always wondering if it’s the prop they see flashing ? Or just the shade ? I’ve seen them leave a piece of cover and swim right to the boat . snagged in outlet 3 1

I know from diving the bass love to just come up and hang out next to you. We used to sit at the bottom and ding a rock on our tanks the bass would come right up to check it out. And whenever your diving if you look back it always seem like you have a trail of bass just following along. I've always said this but if your an avid bass fisherman you need to do some diving in our lakes just to see how many big ones there are. 3-5 pounders every single time you go down snagged in outlet 3 1

They rush right over to anything making noise.
Quillback Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Fish are funny when it comes to noise. A couple of months ago I had tied my boat up to the Big M dock, fired up the motor to let it warm up. A couple of bass came up on top chasing shad and I caught a couple on top casting from the boat with the motor running. cheesemaster and snagged in outlet 3 2
