Well obviously not. Thing is after 9/11 there was New departments that really wasn't needed people needed to do their Jobs.

So they decided FEMA would train and finance these.

I have taken many classes after I complet the class I'm asked about other classes for Fire Department or Military.

Many times have to travel to take classes and they set us up with the nicest places to stay while we are there.

All that was before the last election, two weeks ago Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said during a Cabinet meeting that the Federal Emergency Management Agency would be eliminated. Given that the agency is set for elimination, or at least some serious cuts in funding and function, it's not surprising that they aren't making  grants.

That's what they're doing not why.  Why are they watching radar?  I truly don't get the reason why?  I guess I wonder what they would see on radar that would change anything?

They watch Radar to give warnings if something is going to happen.

Yesterday my wife was in Springfield working.

Had to come to Lebanon because of a Hostage situation. Guy shot his girlfriend and after 4 hours shot himself.

The girlfriend was still alive but not looking good for her.

Doesn't the NWS monitor Radar and issue warnings?

They do but spotters are still sent out but I am not sure who that is at the moment. County maybe? IO am sure @oneshot 1 can give us the scoop.

Our area "first responders" double as weather spotters.   They are trained to sound the alarm at ANYTHING.   So every time a dark cloud becomes visible, the tornado sirens go off.

"Better to be safe than sorry, right ?"   🙄

The problem with that is.... because they sound off all the time, nobody takes them seriously.

Yes, maybe but the first time they do not make that call and something happens badly the blame lands on them. You will never satisfy the gripers anyway at all.

I am going to give this to anyone who wants it. Put this in your phone favorites and make yourself familiar with the way it is set up and works. Put in your zip code. Be proactive and watch the radar there is normal and high resolution.  If you get caught up in a tornado or any other weather event Dorthy, it's your fault.

Years ago when i was working around Rogers, Ar.,  the sirens went off frequently and no one even looked up from what they were doing.  I thought then, what's the point in having them if you desensitize the public to the point that no one even hears the horns as more than background noise.

Its amazing that most rely on anything other than the NWS forecast.  Why bother with any others that put their opinion on it.  I have been watching it for years, usually spot on.

First budget cut took out the beta website that NWS was using to replace the old mobile site https://beta.weather.gov/  .  It was pretty good.  I use an app that feeds off the NWS direct and it works.  NOAA Weather app by Pandamonium Software, has some detailed hour by hour numbers.  And I can make favorites and cycle between the areas I travel for more details without plugging in the zip code for each like the NWS site.

As far as radar goes, MY Radar app seems to be the most real time, better than the NWS one which has some lag time.  Was laying in bed the nite at the farm watching the tornado that formed just south of it as it traveled from over 60 miles away.
