ness Posted March 13 Posted March 13 My 40 year job anniversary was last Friday. As one of my colleagues said, “He lasted!” 🤪 I really hope you whipper-snappers find something you like to do at a company you can grow with that meets your financial needs. I think hard work, an eagerness to learn and a dose of loyalty will serve you well in the long run. And if start time is 8, try getting there at 7:30. And add ½ hour on the back end too. Working, of course. stay off your #%^* phones! basska, Terrierman, nomolites and 2 others 5 John

From experience Loyalty to a company only earns you making less money than you could have made somewhere else. But seriously.. if work starts at 8. lets start at 8. When I get to work I get after it and get my stuff done while other people sit around and have the "water cooler talk time" that can take an hour or more. For a lot of us, especially in my age range it just comes down to I want to be paid for my time, effort and skill, that simple.

oneshot 1 Posted March 17 Author Posted March 17 Well they cut my wife's hours back and hired two women to take her place. My wife just called she has to work over because one quit because my wife used a four letter word and she don't have to put up with that. All my wife did was give her a list of things to do each day. Well this involved WORK and she didn't want to. oneshot
tjm Posted March 17 Posted March 17 It's a guberment job and work is four letter word that guberment employees shouldn't have to put up with.
ollie Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Well, I guess I have a great son after reading all of this! Heck he took me out for Breakfast yesterday and get this, he paid! lol He is 31 right now and after HS he went to Jr. College on the A+ program so that didn't cost really anything. While doing his 2 years he decided to join the National Guard. Smart kid, because my wife and I made too much to get him a grant and none of us wanted to sign for a loan. After completing basics in GA he came back home and started going to Missouri Southern, in which the guard paid for just about in full. Now he works full-time for the Guard and has moved up in ranks and pay. Now the flip side, his brother (my stepson), doesn't have a job and no real motivation to get one. Go figure. ness Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Back to working extra for a minute...I had dinner with one of the old timers last week. One of the things we discussed was working Saturdays. It's always nice to work without the interruptions -- you get a lot done, and there was a chance at some fun too! What was great was when you pulled into the parking lot and the other guy was the only one already there. You always parked where your car couldn't be seen from the windows. Only one other person in the building meant there was a real chance at scaring the @#$% out of the other. But if you got there first, your head was on a swivel You never took the elevator -- that made noise -- you took the back stairwell. Then it was just a matter of how far you could go with it. Best one ever: He hid in a closet and waited for me to go down the hall to go to the loo. He jumped out with a broom and screamed, and I about had a heart attack This is the kind of work ethic that’s missing with today’s kids! nomolites, Quillback, Terrierman and 2 others 4 1 John
