ollie Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Anyone have one or has a friend that has one? If so, give me the pros and cons of it please. Thinking about finally selling the Old Town disco 113 and perhaps my Vibe Kayak for one of these. I like the option of it being lightweight somewhat and the ability to hook up a trolling motor if I want later down the road. Members slabseeker Posted February 10 Members Posted February 10 Ozark Media Co on YouTube has some good NuCanoe videos. Not sure if you have seen them or not. ColdWaterFshr Posted February 11 Posted February 11 A buddy of mine had one. He sold it after using it twice. Ended up getting 16' canoe made of whatever the latest copycat Royalex material is. Far more versatile, more carrying capacity, and about 20 lbs lighter. ollie 1
ollie Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 I did some research on it last night and now I'm not certain I want one! Guy was complaining about the rod tip protectors and something up by the foot pegs that were rubbing on his ankles every time he got in it. He liked it well enough due to the pros of the boat, but said there were a lot of issues he didn't like and he was a creek fisherman. I will keep looking though. snagged in outlet 3 and Daryk Campbell Sr 2 "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
jdmidwest Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Its hard to find the perfect boat. I have had a few and still want something better. ollie 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Ive been following Nu Canoe for quite a while. They have some cool products. One similar to the Flint is the new U-10. It is supposed to have many of the same features as the Unlimited but with a smaller platform. They also just unveiled the new U-Max which is longer and wider than the Unlimited. I hope to get to use my canoe more this year. Spring isn't far away. ollie and BilletHead 2 Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. ollie Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Well, I am somewhat limited on what I can get in some ways. It needs to be lightweight so I can put it on top of the car and a smaller footprint would be nice as well like a 10-11" boat. I also am thinking about either a trolling motor that I could put on if I wanted to or possibly a peddle drive system. Although my knee needs some work on it so that may not be a doable thing. I have a Vibe yak right now and I have been looking at the makana from them. I might head down to Bentonville and check one of those out at Ozark Kayak. They are good to deal with. Oh yeah, forgot to mention I don't want to spend several grand on a yak when I could just buy a regular boat. lol I will probably list my disco for sale soon this spring. Daryk Campbell Sr Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Price is definitely what has prevented me from getting one. Especially when you factor in the motor and battery. Nu Canoe offers a peddle drive, but I've read and watched alot of videos about people who were not impressed. Being able to car top and motorize is definitely a tough match. ollie 1 Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. ollie Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Being able to car top and motorize is definitely a tough match. Exactly. I like the looks of the Cresent Smallie and I think that looks like a winner. Although by the time you buy the boat and other accessories to go with it you then have a couple of grand invested in it. Little more than I wanted to spend for sure. snagged in outlet 3 and Daryk Campbell Sr 2 "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
ollie Posted February 23 Author Posted February 23 Got to sit in a Flint on Saturday and I don't think it will be the one for me. The seat is kind of the deal breaker to be honest. Not that it wasn't comfortable, because it was. I just didn't like the fact that it was a little harder to get off and on the boat. You have to put it in the rails and then tighten it down in 4 places. Great if I left it in all the time and had a trailer or truck to put it in, but I don't so back to the drawing board. Found out no one is selling Vibe yaks around here or just about anywhere. Something to do with how they are marketing or selling them now. I'll just keep looking for now.
