just to add to the topic and not start another thread, linda and i fished friday and saturday.  friday was the best and saturday they had scattered somewhat from the passing front.  friday, we had 27 keepers, and linda caught half of them.  plus, she had the biggest one.  we had two over 4 lb. and several in the 3 lb. class.  depth wise still pretty much the same - 40 to 50 ft.  we did catch most of them on the 3/4 ZincSpoon.  i did catch a few on the swimmer, but they were biting the spoon better.  saturday was only 9 keepers and linda just gave me a whipping.  she caught 7 of the keepers and that included two of the 4 lb. variety and a bonus 6 lb. walleye.  she stuck with the silver spoon both days and i threw white both days.  we caught bass in different areas both days.  several of the bass were coming where we found bait in the area, but the bass where just hanging out on the bottom in the vicinity.

one other note is that we caught almost all of them by casting and very few did we catch bobbing up and down vertical.  braid is almost a must to make a long cast into 50 ft. bottom, and feed it line all the way down, and be able to stick a fish the first time you move your lure.  we were using hi-vis yellow - 20 lb. test -  tied directly to the lure.  maybe that yellow line was helping them find the bait better.

i will post some pics of linda when i get a chance.  they are not the best, but it is hard to keep the boat where is needs to stay out in the wind storms.  i was glad that linda got to catch a bunch even if she did put a "whoopin" on me.  i am sure that you get just as much enjoyment watching donna catch them.

Yes, no bigger thrill for me. 

Fished a couple of hours Thursday and then again on Saturday in the KC area.

White spoon was getting bit in 40' in creek channels. caught several keepers, but nothing over 2.5.

I really like the trick of running line through a feathered treble above the spoon.

Also picked up a few nice smallies draggin a FB jig on mixed gravel flats in 25-30'.

question: in your opinion and the opinion of Quillback, why hasn’t Table Rock produced any big smallmouth? Its possible those caliber fish get caught each year, but nobodys talking about it. Tight Lips

Some Michigan Smallmouths. Largest was 6 pound 4.6 ounces that anchored a 22 pound 5 ounce sack on Pentwater Lake, which is a drowned river mouth with a channel to Lake Michigan.

These big smallmouths are feeding on Gobies, alewives, yellow perch, and crayfish.
