Members Matthew Madura Posted May 23, 2016 Members Posted May 23, 2016 At the end of my fishing day Saturday I decided to troll back to the ramp. Coming up on a point in about 70ft of water trolling a Strike King 6XD crank bait, this guy nailed it. Reeling it in I thought it was just a small bass, once I caught a glimpse several yards from the boat I thought for sure small crappie, then to much of my dismay big ole'gill. If I didn't take a picture no one would believe me. The nose of the fish is just over the tip of my middle finger. Measuring it out later it unofficially came in at 9 1/2 inches. That was a first for me. Funny a bluegill was the only picture worthy fish of the day. dan hufferd, ness, Quillback and 7 others 10
176champion Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 Some good eating right there.... Fish24/7 1 I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
DADAKOTA Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 That is a big one. I'd love to have a basket full of those.
Devan S. Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 I really enjoy getting out after the big gills. I usually wait until Bill says in a report they are on the points then I go after them with worms and a drop shot rig. Friday night me and a buddy caught a cooler full of 6-8" gills none as big as yours but good numbers of eater sized fish. Fish24/7, Hammer time and shark bait 3
Ellros Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 It's really funny how bluegills will hit large crankbaits that have no chance of fitting in their tiny mouths Grumpy53 and shark bait 2
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 My buddy caught one on a 1/2 ounce jig with a full rage craw, and one on a Whopper Plopper the other day. They are just mean shark bait 1
