  1. I would offer up the fact that 2 state records in recent years(neither caught wading at the outlets), multiple guides, outfitters, resorts along the lake, and readily located in a "tourist" hotspot all contribute magnitudes more. Not saying OA isn't a significant source but I firmly believe people would be stacked along the Taney banks without this site. Heck look at the trout parks which are shoulder to shoulder most of the year too(they don't get near the big fish publicity either) . Personally standing at the outlets isn't much different than the trout parks. Where else can you go, have a place to take the family, and go fish in the mornings/evenings with multiple options(Taney, BS, TRL) all within minutes drive? It's literally the perfect storm and its so easy literally anyone can try it without much $$. Ever try to take a family vacation to Lake Fork with a wife and kids that can't fish all day? Sure a secret out of the way smallmouth streams....probably an OA issue but Taney has a lot of other things working against it besides OA.
  2. I assume the spot at RR was down by the cemetery. Contrary to popular belief its been private and the owners have been running people off for years and years. I grew up my whole life in that area knowing it was only a matter of time until I got "caught" and run off. Between the parties, trash, and constant barrage of 4 wheeling in that area I'm surprised it took them this long to put up actual fences.
  3. And yet people still buy them, spend hundreds trying to get 1 or 2 mph via propping and run all out everywhere they go. Its effectively planned obsolescence.
  4. I've been looking for gar.......Arkansas Master Angler is 10lb.....I thought it would be the easiest to do as I knew a pretty good spot. Been twice and nothing. Seems like if your looking for em.....I cant find them.....otherwise....their there.
  5. take a bigger net. Chances are high you will run into stripers that are much larger than your trout net.
  6. Or you have to be willing to harvest ALOT of them at small sizes. Catfish are pretty common in ponds. I have a half acre pond that once had channel cat(probably still has some) but we don't ever catch any. I thought I read somewhere that Catfish were actually bad about the amount of waste produced compared to other game fish. Have seriously done some investigation and when the time comes and I spend the money to clean out the pond. I will in all likely hood stock hybrid striper in a limited number in the pond.
  7. Mr. Giggles is right. In fact most really big crappie from southern states come from ponds instead of lakes. The lakes pump out quantity of 3 lb fish but small ponds are usually the ones responsible for the 4-5lb crappie.
  8. Thought I would follow this up. We went out Saturday and ran all the way to pt. 6. Awfully hard to drive around and see topwater fish when the wind is really blowing. We ran back and bass fished. Zero fish all day.
  9. I found NFOW and Eleven Point both much more difficult than expected for the "Wild" trout streams. In both cases, I caught my fish just covering water with a jig like I would at Taneycomo out of a boat. I fished both in the early summer in higher water levels but in both cases I used a 1/8 oz jig as I just felt I wasn't getting deep enough with smaller jigs.
  10. You don't expect them to slow down when BS reaches 659? Will probably drop below 662 today so my assumption is that slower days are ahead maybe as soon as this week? I'm concerned because I'm coming down on the 24th and would like to wade fish if possible.
  11. Good report. I'm thinking I'm going to head out this weekend. Seeing several reports of a better striper bite the last couple days so figure I will give it a shot.
  12. Columbia College in Rolla probably made a nice chunk of money on Rolla grads who couldn't pass any calculus among other classes. As for the Ammo and panic buying. I am not convinced we will ever see any amount of surplus ammo in the market place again. Demand is constantly increasing. Suppliers would be crazy to flood the market and kill their own prices. Its nearly a perfect storm for them.
  13. No not for a living. More of a second job. Just run about 35 head of momma cows. The benefit is that I can sell out or cut down to get through winter and buy back in later if I want too. I cannot imagine having my entire livelihood hanging on the balance or rain or sunshine.
  14. Yes sir. Growing days are about over. We need rain bad.....like 4-5 inches over a week or better. Already planning on selling calves early and culling old momma cows.
  15. I'm not sure how but generally I would think a dead patient is the hardest one to collect on. Unless the gov. in this case is paying out to cover costs and then its likely going to mega hospitals with ICU capacity, ect. Local clinics likely aren't making much more than they would on a head cold. I know a couple people who have tested positive. In every case, their regular clinic/doctor said stay away, don't come here, go to health dept. or if serious go to ER. No script, nothing, just sit at home, rest, hydrate, and let your body do its thing until you cannot breath.
  16. You know this is probably the best lesson for all of us. Earlier this year I took my boat over to Lake Leatherwood and fished. Came back to the ramp and 2 older gentlemen were struggling to put in a smaller bass boat on a unimproved ramp. I set and waited for what seemed like forever to me. It may have been 10 or 15 minutes after all was said and done they didn't even take off just pulled on bank and kept loading stuff in the boat. We took out in a jiffy and one of them stopped us, thanked us for being patient, and proceeded to tell us their minds and bodies didn't work like they use too. They come out to Leatherwood to enjoy themselves without the hustle and bustle of the bigger lakes. I honestly felt bad driving out of there. While I had been nice and patient on the outside, my mind wasn't. While I was never downright mean, I'd be a liar if I didn't say I had thoughts that they should have been doing something else or at a minimum let us pull out first. We all need to slow down a little bit. Life's to short to worry about things that don't matter in the grand scheme and you never know the struggles of someone else.
  17. I seem to have much better luck with HP and GW than I do local deputys and city cops. They really do seem to be looking for something to do. I was at Beaver last year and fishing around Indian Creek when we heard talking in the brush. From the sound of it the game warden was watching boats load up and then getting them when they pulled up the hill out of sight of the ramp. Great ploy to not have to chase down a law breaker when you pull up to the ramp and they scatter.
  18. The spro's work pretty good for me and the winter early spring walleyes. I throw some megabass in the +2 because I like the increased depth but I really feel I catch more fish on the spro. Been buying and paints a lot more knock offs and while they work I still think the spro is a better deal all in.
  19. My one citation came from MN ice fishing. Was just stupid mistake buddies and I ran from hut to lodge to get burgers....left lines down and unattended. Came back and started punching holes away from the shack and fishing. Warden pulls up and checks us. One buddy has license in hut. Warden follows. Finds unattended lines. Counts them and as a group were 1 over number of lines we can have in the water. We admitted fault and negligence. No harm no foul. He says should be writing each of us a ticket for unattended and one of us for extra line. Offers to write 1 ticket and we work out who takes it. They both big game hunt out of state. In the interest of not hampering their draw results ect. I took the ticket and they paid. Nice reasonable guy that just realized we made a stupid mistake.
  20. I'm with you. Plenty of fish. Only decline I have noticed is it doesn't seem to be as many large fish but that's to be somewhat expected considering the COVID free-for-all that happened this spring. I believe some of the trout are coming from a private hatchery. The couple of raceways that are open and holding fish had some golden trout in them. I assume none of the state run hatcheries raise Golden trout. Think they probably came/come from a private that may be serving as a backup.
  21. A lot of truth in this.........my closest almost accident was about 1 a.m. and involved a swimmer in the middle of the lake without any means to give away his location.
  22. I like to keep ya'll reminded of how quickly the tables can and do turn. Still in a drought in a significant portion of the White River Drainage basin and doesn't appear to be any relief in sight. Did a quick check of the NWS Springfield. YTD- 40.16" precipitation Normal value is 33.06 Already 2" rain behind for September. August was 2.5" short of normal. July was 1" short of normal. June was short too. We darn near got the entire years precipitation in the first 5 months of the year. I'd say the dam system did exactly what it was supposed to do. Beaver and TRL are steady at normal levels. BS dropping steady.
  23. There's enough room in that area that 5+ boats wide could run both ways. If common sense were used. I wasn't there and I don't know any of the details. I always approach that area goings both ways just right of middle lake and I ALWAYS look behind me before I get there. I bet I've been passed by faster boats 20+ times on the left. They shave off the point going by there and then by the one straight across from Viney. Good news is I've never seen a boat shave the point going downstream across from Viney. As you've said its blind and there is a lot more boats launched there than you or I think. That being said I would think that the boat going downstream would have to be way right(nearly into the sticks if they weren't just fishing that bluff end) and the boat going upstream be WAY, WAY, WAY left.
  24. It could be non-committal on the fishes part coupled with the way trout fight like SIO3 said. You get a bass to slap at or bump a crank and he gets stuck in his face you can still land them. I cannot count the number of bass and walleye I've caught with jerkbaits outside the mouth. Trout not so much.
  25. So is your entire view of 9/11 a conspiracy or just the pentagon portion?
