Read one review that said to use kosher salt (like #4 shot vrs. #8 shot).

I was raised dirt poor on a dairy farm in Webster County, one room school house (1-8 grades) & all dirt roads. We ate a lot of critters back then. Old tough squirrels - cut in pieces- put in cast iron skillet, cover with water. Add one heaping tablespoon bacon grease. Simmer until the water is gone, increase temp. & fry in the bacon grease till brown. Wish I had some now if they were not so hard to skin.

Talbot CA area - just north of Mt. Vernon is/was good. A lot land & I do not think you have to check in but you had better check on that on the MDC site.

Nice report & pics. A buddy & I made that trip (minus S.D.) back in '66 in a Austin Healey Sprite. We started out with $100 each, stayed three weeks and did not sleep in a bed the whole trip. Killed a deer with a bow (recurve Bear) in western Colorado, fished Yellowstone & chased college girls that were working that summer at the park. Had $10 when we got back to Springfield. We must have been crazy!

My mo-in-law will not eat at my house unless she looks at the empty container in the trash. Fed them bbq coon once - she has never been the same since - she thought it was pulled pork.

Eggs are great except for the starting price. I have had mine for 15 years & had to replace the seal a coup[e of times. A fix for that is get stove gasket from a hardware store (comes by the ft.) & some gasket cement. So far no more problem. Retired so I use it two or three times/week.
