    What's Cooking?

Real men don't eat quiche! Although a tasty egg pie with lots of other stuff, well that's another thing completely. I have never made one or eaten more than a bite of one, but have seen a few in photos that looked plumb tasty.
  2. I tried a set of climbing spikes ONE time. While deployed for a hurricane recovery I had a crew of "tree monkeys" one of them talked me into giving the climbing spikes a try. We happened to be out in the country, the trend was a large slick barked oak of some kind. Also didn't note that they had pulled put an old set of dull.spikes for me. Made it about 4 feet up and missed getting a spike stuck in, slid back down a ways, as the skin was being peeled in a few places all I could hear was laughter from the crew. I had been set up, as payback I bought them lunch.

Ness you would be fun to have in deer camp. You want your eggs with cigar ash or baccy juice. The one thing I can't stand in eggs is runny whites,
  4. Dang it, that would have been a lot cheaper than what I paid.

    What's Cooking?

Sounds wonderful, I will have mine with extra cilantro please.
  6. LOL, I have to apologize, I just did a Google search for man made diseases, the vast majority of hits claim nearly all diseases to be man made, we are all going to die. Well that last part is true, ain't none of us going to live forever.
  7. Do I agree, no. It was not man made, certainly spread by activities of man, probably exacerbated by activities of man. Could be a difference in what I consider man made. It was not a disease created in a lab and given to animals to see what would happen, that would be man made. I certainly could understand the argument for CWD or Mad Cow to be a Man made disease, but to me they are not, there are very few man made diseases I would think by my definition.
  8. Awesome!

    What's Cooking?

I opted to spend the day simmering a beef stew. Reduced an arm roast to small chunks, browned them in a Dutch oven, added broth and seasoning for a long slow simmer. Couldn't find any barley locally so used lentils, taters, onions, and carrots. Sure smells good, very dark in color.
  10. There is some truth in there, however the disease was NOT made in a university, it was first identified by a university in their captive deer herd, but is not a man made disease. I still believe that CWD can be slowed, maybe, however it cannot be stopped or eliminated, the wild population of deer will in time either have to develop their own resistance or suffer the consequences. And yes probably the big "scare" is the possible transmission to human host, although to anyone's knowledge it has not happened yet. That connects directly to the multi-billion dollar hunting industry, and money talks, loudly.
  11. I never even spent one day in the blind. I did see a few deer around home but was never where I could hunt them. Then I caught a few walleye and forgot about deer! My neighbor whom I don't believe was in the program I had seen as many as 20 deer at a time, but they didnt want anyone culling them.
  12. Most if not all of the Polk County cases are in the Northern portion by me.. I did see a deer about 10 miles south of the north county line along 13 that did not look injured but was absolutely the sickest looking deer I have ever seen, if I had a rifle with me I would have killed it and waited for the MDC Agent. Did report it to them, they are going to look for it and try to put it down and test it. It was a pitiful thing,,have seen starving animals that looked better.
  13. Looks like fun on a fly rod for sure. Only time I ever fished down here the gravel ramp we launched from was like a wal mart parking lot and the rotting spoon bill carcasses would curl your nose hairs.

    What's Cooking?

Combination supper tonight. Combining, leftovers, easy and tasty. Chopped up meat from some left over fried chicken thighs, opened a big jar of Bertolli Alfredo sauce, put it all in a pot to warm up with some extra seasoning and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. Boil in up some spaghetti noodles to ladle it over, Mmmm Italian version of biscuits and gravy me thinks.

Chief, those look good enough to eat.
  16. The idea of a hybrid male, hybridizing with a female white is interesting. Wrench you have mentioned it multiple times, and while I am not on LOZ much there are definitely differences in hybrids, some are longer and more aggressive i.e. more striper like in body shape, others well I sometime have a hard time saying exactly what they are, whites, hybrids, hybrid hybrids? I am not sure on the behavior of whites vs hybrids, I have seen schools of hybrids erupt on Truman, but not many schools of whites blow up like they used to. Still see some smaller schools of smaller whites on Pomme blow up but not like years gone by. On Pomme that could easily be a byproduct of the population swings though as it doesn't have wipers.

    What's Cooking?

My stomach has been in rebellion for a few day, but I can't stop looking at some of the photos. Never had a real Mole, never appeaked to me but might be good. The cheesy grits or the Nassau Grits sound/look awesome, even if food pics have the odd combination of making me very hungry and queasy at the same time.
  18. LOL, you can always tell where one was cleaned, looks like someone sacrificed a bull.
  19. Beats me I only found one.
  20. It's a big ole carp any way you slice it.
  21. OMG, it's a . . . . Carp. Somethings seems off the way he is holding it. Doesn't look like any effort in holding it up. Maybe he is just way stronger than he looks.
  22. You are like me, if it works it goes fishing. Beauty is in the function.
  23. I am waiting for.those outdated units to show up for sale really cheap. I have a $100 lorance that is doing well to tell how deep it is. Would love to have a DI, but not that bad, yet.
