    What's Cooking?

Hopefully will remember to get a photo. Tonight actual food, although let's be honest I will probably have some ice cream and cherry pie filling later. Tonight I had a couple of smoked pork hocks which I cooked in crock while I was otherwise occupied. Removed the bones and chopped up the meat and hide and dumped back into the crock pot juices (mostly chicken and beef stock. Then a double handful of baby taters a couple cans of Hoppin John, a can of tomatoes and okra, and a can of sweet potatoes hey why not.ots of garlic heavy seasoning knowing the taters are gonna suck up a lot of the salt but that is easily added back when serving. And since it was a bit soupy some corn starch to thicken it slightly. Smell good and here in a bit when the little taters are done will see how it tastes. This a lot form just me but I have a few more days to have to eat so I may be done cooking until Sunday when 4 chickens cut into quarters make the jump to the smoker for Sunday Supper with friends. Looks eh so so, taste very good, texture a bit odd as the skins didn't cook down and get all soft like I wanted. Edibility darn it was hot out of the pot. Had time to do stuff before it. Cooled enough to eat.

    What's Cooking?

Wife out if town for a few days. Today I had big chunk of toe nail removed so I decided to make myself a simple supper. Was gonna make cheesy grits with some rotisserie chicken in it. But following Dr orders to stay off my toe I opted for thus masterpiece instead. Vanilla Ice Cream with plenty of cherry pie filling. All source locally from or Dollar General. Tomorrow who knows maybe popsicles.
  3. Fried rabbit is delicious, especially with some garlic mashed taters and a skillet of gravy from.the scrapings!
  4. Had a friend from California give me some gummies. With reccomendation that I only eat maybe a quarter of one at a time. Haven't had the courage to try any of them yet.
  5. There are so many different common or local names for fish it is amazing. I caught some black perch just the other day. Jack Salmon was always one of my favorite names.
  6. I thought "white cats" were young blues.
  7. Yep we had around 5 inches over the weekend. Bummer too because the lake was just about back to Where it should be. No it's start over again. Oh well stuff happens.
  8. Well the bones and red meat do add flavor, but it don't mean it's a good flavor. I like white bass but usually just have a tenderloin strip from the top with red stuff cut out. Is great for a fish fry with group of friends. "Is this Walleye"? Why yes it is if you want it to be. I like just about all fish, nearly all of them cn be fixed where they are tasty, so just require more work to do that.

    What's Cooking?

Don't know what to call it but a hillbilly skillet lunch. Wife getting hair done, I am hungry, found some leftover hamburger patties I had grilled. Diced them up added a jar of brown gravy, heated it up, added a bunch of shredded cheese and a small edge in the .middle. looks more like something the dog would like but with a couple slices of buttered sourdough bread it tasted pretty good. Will do better tonight with a bunch of crappie fillets on the Blackstone. Currently my favorite way to eat them.
  10. Many years ago my grandmother was diagnosed with leukemia at 80 yrs old ir so, had zero medical records because she had never been to a hospital more doctor in her life. She did the full treatments for a couple of years and was miserable. One day she said "that's it I am done with treatments". Her daughter (my mom) was an RN and was the end result was gonna be was well explained to her. Grandma's response was well it can be much worse than the treatments. Everybody respected her choices and she was gone in 6 months or so. Everyone and every situation is different you do what YOU want to.
  11. The best thing you can do is rest, especially the first ones can wipe you out.
  12. The bigger risk would be her infecting you with some virus. Some chemo treatments require extra precautions some are not as bad. I dont remembernwhat the big one i got was but i referred to it as Roundup for people. Dr. thought that was a pretty good description. I have never heard of any that would be transferable simple contact unless there was some kind if spill. I know that the pills i get have a long warning about being handled by women of child bearing age. Maybe she just got new glasses and can actually see you now!
  13. Give her a call, she might be able to cure ya for less.
  14. Like Daryk said do what you want to do. If you would rather go to the Gulf (I do) then go, if you truly would rather go to your cabin then go there. I am struggling with similar choices as I adjust to being retired. Want to go to Gulf as I have never fished in salt water.
  15. Back when I had beagles there was a screen wire space in the back that they pooped on or I washed it to there. Used to dig red worms they were fat and juicy, walleye, bluegill etc LOVED them. Only one place around me that I could pick up night crawlers but after a heavy rain you could get a bunch in a hurry, as soon as you touched them to pick up they would go crazy. I tried to get them started around my dog pen and compost pile dumped thousands of them out there over the years. Finally a couple years ago while looking in the grass after a heavy rain I finally saw ONE. I gave up, if I need them now I just buy some.
  16. My neighbor had a swam.on a tree limb and a week or so later I had a swarm come buzzing through while I was walking across the yard. Hope they all found a good home.
  17. I would love to have one to fillet and put on the grill. They are supposed to be good eating. Hate to see them invading MO though.
  18. Wish I was closer that would be a cool presentation.
  19. Probably Kara Tveet (sure I misspelled it) I know she works on hydrilla and other Aquatic invasive. Aquatic invasive are pretty good at evolving to meet conditions else they wouldnt be invasive. Small patches are not a bad thing but invasive never seem to stay small.
  20. I used to catch suckered with rod/reel. Always used worms, never even considered a dough bait. For carp it seemed like everyone had their own secret recipe for dough bait. Some used strawberry jello, some different flavor jello, Wheaties, cornflakes, the cheapest bourbon at the liquor store (fairly certain that was most for the guy making the dough bait. I mostly used corn or worms. A can of corn with about half thrown out for chum. All in all very similar to trout fishing. Catching carp was always a hoot whether in a creek or lake you learn to fight big fish, and if you lose em so what.
  21. Had baseball been invented when yet when you went to school there?
  22. I partly agree. I would never trade the life of a person for thife.of my dog. But yeah put me in the category that prefers dogs over people for the most part. I have had to kill my own dogs and others dog before and have had a couple euthanized by vet. Never an enjoyable thing.
  23. Never had it mixed with strawberries but Jalapeño Jelly is pretty good stuff
  24. Oneshot you can come with me next week while I get a bone marrow biopsy, one leg will be so numb it will be non functioning we would be like twins. 😄
