  1. I bought a pole from Sylvester back in the eighties, still have it I think. I believe they wrote a section on canoe poling for the old Red Cross canoeing guide. My copy of that book wore to shreds long ago.
  2. Holy redfish! Great report.
  3. Are those what we called gumbos?
  4. Was one of the Belitz brothers name Sylvester?
  5. I don't remember the details of their demise but I'll be having Bluegill for dinner tonight.
  6. Does anyone use a push pole to travel upstream? Works pretty good.
  7. It's been 20 years or so but I recall a log jam so big it swallowed the whole river. I'm sure by now that one is gone but I wouldn't go around any blind corners with out being super cautious.
  8. On this day of broadcast banality, insipid humor and cesspool comedy our world is less tolerable now that weve lost Sid Caesar. Sid was a true funny man; his writers defined my generations comedy. I'll appreciate Bill Cosby and the few other comics who rely being clever a little more.
  9. With the exception of the trout parks I can't imagine any small waters getting more pressure than Busch. It's hardly worth going now, if it were any less restrictive they might as well close it.
  10. Ok wrench, it's your turn.
  11. Good deal, I remember holding mine the first time and wondering what the heck is this for, of course this was before utube. Next step is to eliminate the tool and use your hands, it's not as hard as it seems.
  12. Blood is boiling but my butt is still frozen.
  13. I think a lot of us have watched fish take airborn damsels but our brains don't allow us to see it like that. Of course very few fish I have seen were that big. Great film.
  14. The blurry picture made this guy look more vicious than he really is. Can you guess the breed?
  15. Don't know if it's true but the story I remember was the water was high and the winners pushed their boats over logs into smelzers lake.
  16. I have a lot of fond memories of Brick House though most don't include catching fish. The fish I have caught were nice size and always came as a surprise. "Wow, what do you know I actually caught one" was the usual reaction. Unlike the places most of us spend our time most fish in that river live and die without ever seeing a lure.
  17. That was cool but before I could see the picture somebody tried to sell me a truck. Nice fish.
  18. That is hilarious because it's so true. Kind of like the Cold War Russian spies who all wore white socks with their black shoes and slacks.
  19. Prairie lake is on the Weldon spring area and it may be permissible to have a private boat on it. Not sure you would need it though it's a pretty small lake. I haven't seen it in a long time but it looked to be leaking or drying up a few years back. The folks who rent the boats are nice people and do a pretty good job of policing for fishermen who fish out unlocked boats or who bring in their own. Other than being clunky and dirty the $5.00 john boat rentals are a bargin.
  20. 30" wow, that must have been a beautiful fish.
  21. Good deal. Once you get settled in give me a buzz, we'll get back on track with some fishing plans.
  22. A few years back traveled for work often. Even with the occasional unsettling experience the flight was the the easiest part. Driving out of the car rental lot in an unfamiliar car in an unfamiliar city with a crappy GPS at dark was extremely nerve racking.
  23. I only sat on a jury one time. I was impressed, dismayed and entertained by the stereotypical hard nosed prosecutor and the liberal defense lawyer. Two days of real life drama acted out, then being empowered to decide the fate of a fellow citizen, it's strong stuff.
