We went over there when we were down in May and, believe it or not, she didn't much care for it and has no desire to go back. You see, the problem was, she got exactly what she ordered π€« - a bunch of fried stuff and then complained that it was, well, a bunch of fried stuff! π³ Now, my brother and me, that's an entirely different story. We could close our eyes and point anywhere on the menu and be happy as a (fried) clam!

I'm sure I'm missing something. Heck, I usually have to reset both units temp and depth readings as they randomly switch from "Local" to "Global" and I don't get why there even IS a Global. Who wants depth and temp readings that aren't accurate and the Global ain't! Temp will vary 8 - 10 degrees too high and depth will be off an equal number of feet. I've messed with the menu options on these things for over three years now and haven't gained an inch. I'll take a couple pics later to show what I'm talking about. Or at least what I THINK I'm talking about!

Actually I have. And I've been to the Lowrance tutorial video site (I don't know how many more times I can listen to that "Hi, I'm Billy Barroo, Lowrance product expert.) That's just how stupid I am. Plus, I have the ultimate Negative Nancy attitude in that I've absolutely HATED these Lowrance units since the day I got them. I'd had Humminbird for a couple hundred years prior and have not been able to get over the brand bias I guess but they just seemed SO much easier to use. And, like I said earlier, NOW it's personal! π€¬

I promise. π

Actually, you just missed me! We were there last week and I decided to "bring the heat" this time instead of rain and it seemed to work equally well insofar as making it some kind of miserable. I didn't bother posting anything regarding fishing as I don't think I spent more than a couple of hours total even trying until Friday. That's when the clouds rolled in and it rained off and on and was downright pleasant out there. Of course that didn't even remotely qualify as a Vernon type rain! Caught three fish the entire time dragging jigs around in 15 - 20 foot of water kinda like Bill and everybody else has alluded to but with not nearly the level of success. In fact on Friday when conditions seemed near perfect I jumped points and extended gravel for a good six hours and never got a sniff. I'm not very good....... We did get in some quality boat riding though as that's what Kathy enjoys most this time of the year and I'm typically happy to oblige her since the fishing is usually so tuff even on the days that the heat index isn't 110. Made the trip one day from Indian Point up the White toward Beaver Dam. That was good for about six hours roundtrip and about 25 gallons of gas! I dunno how close we actually were to the dam but the water was up enough that it was the farthest we've ever made it in the 'ol Ranger. Water temp was a brisk 44 degrees which felt even colder on the toes when compared to the bathwater that was the main lake. I had hoped to spend some time experimenting with Bo's Big Wobbler but Tackle Warehouse kinda let me down. Ordered a half dozen Wobblers and a couple of spools of line on Wednesday the 28th of August and as of Monday the 9th of September they had made it all the way to LOS ANGELES!! Finally arrived at the house on Wednesday the 11th! Can't say as I ever remember it taking more than four or five days for an order from them to get here but, boy, not this time. Hoping to get back down y'all's way later in October to see if I can make it SNOW! π₯Ά

That's good stuff Bill. If you don't mind my asking, how do you adjust your chart settings relative to shading to get the background color scheme shown in your photos? I can never figure out how to get a decent representation on mine, especially my HDS 9. While I realize that the 9 and 12 are the same unit (with the exception of screen size of course) I flat can't seem to get the colors/shading adjusted to anything that looks "right" if you know what I mean. In fact, my HDS 9 typically displays all water in solid white. I've messed with these things in the garage and on the water for way more hours than I've fished with them and it's beginning to become a personal thing! Thanks!

Thanks Bo - I appreciate you taking the time to respond and really enjoyed the video. As I alluded to earlier, your extensive sharing of information and advice is super helpful and most generous. I've been using your jigs, jig heads and crappie heads pretty exclusively for several years now and am completely sold on the entire line of products. Can't wait to put the Wobbler to use and I'll be sure to report back. Thanks again.

Well, heck, never mind I guess! If I had just scrolled down another couple of posts I would have had my answer! Thanks Bo.

Hey Bo, I just ordered a bunch of your Big Wobbler's to try out when we're down week after next. I've been paying close attention to the "where" you've been fishing them but wondered if there were any insider trading tips on "how" to best fish them? Do you primarily fish them like a jig staying close to the bottom or more of a swimming technique for suspended fish or just experiment until the fish give it away? Thanks and I always look forward to all of the great advice and information that you put out there for us wannabe's.

I'm thinking maybe Vernon CCCLXXXVII. I've been around for awhile you know.......

Ahh, don't sweat it. After we get thru with that place in a couple of weeks, October will be a moot point anyways!
-
Don't they say it's good to be "wanted"? That being said, if the good Lord's willin' and the creek don't rise, we'll be back in late October TOO! π» But think of it this way - I'm actually providing a valuable service to all of you that reside in the area in that, thanks to ME, you subconsciously have developed a much more keen sense of appreciation for the great weather you experience most of the other forty seven or so weeks of the year. You probably can't even remember it now but there was a time when you took the great Ozarks weather for granted. However, and again thanks to ME, that's no longer the case. You're welcome! π πͺοΈβ‘π¬οΈβοΈ

Nah, not till a week from Saturday. You're good until then but I wouldn't waste what little time you have left!
-
Well, actually, there are way more contributing factors to my being all wet than just the rain! But thanks for thinking of me! Speaking of rain, I don't know if this stuff is supposed to get all the way down there but we've had almost two inches in the last 90 minutes and it's still coming down like crazy. Fire and brimstone type stuff!

And a convict is a "justice involved person" while an ex-con is a "returning resident". Thought that's what I was when I came home from the lake!

Sadly, it looks like this made it to the coveted six pages without my help but thanks for thinking of me. However, I did enjoy reading all of the technical mumbo jumbo about fly rods in this thread since all I know about 'em is that they're really, really, long. Well, that and the fact that guys that use 'em never seem satisfied with where they've made their cast since they just keep flingin' it over and over and over again. And anybody over 60 that ain't got more than 14 clubs (plus ball retriever) in their golf bag flat ain't even tryin'!

As Mars Blackmon used to say, "Must be the shoes." Hard to miss those Soft Science dogs! Nice job Quill!

OH, MY, GOD..... Yet another reason I don't use live bait! And don't kid yourself - believe you me that was a moccasin. They ALL are 'cept for the ones that are rattlers!

Although I'm sure the real reason behind requiring all Ranger, Triton or whatever for certain tournaments was the obvious brand exposure and marketing benefit but wasn't the "stated" reasoning because then everyone would be fishing from an equal platform thus no unfair advantage to a guy that might be able to afford a bigger, faster boat with better accessories? Level playing field stuff and all. Of course, I'm thinking back to the 70's and 80's which was almost before there was even water in the lakes so........
-
Amen to that. The right side of the sod is a good place to be! π
-
Good for you. "Happy" is all relative and you got the ball!

Somehow I don't doubt it! In fact, I'm looking forward to it in some sort of perverse way. But still, two fifty? Please.......π€

You might also want to inquire about a nerve ablation procedure. I've had several for my lower back and neck and they helped a ton. In my experience, the benefit lasted about two years before the nerves grew back and then it was rinse and repeat. It's "minimally invasive" which just means it's being done to you and not them but there's no cutting involved and I usually can do whatever I want the very next day. However, since I've been seeing the chiropractor every six to eight weeks I've not had the ablation procedure done in over three years and, overall, am doing pretty dang good all things considered. In fact, if I didn't work around the house and yard like a coal miner and play golf three or four times a week I might even be pain free! Nonetheless, it's very manageable now and since my injury that's all I've ever asked or hoped for. As I'm sure you and Donna both know there's a big difference between back "pain" and "discomfort" and I'll take the latter any day of the week. Just another option to maybe research and consider. Hang in there buddy and best of luck.

Dang - you're gonna need a bigger boat!

You do realize that's almost six and a half millimeters though don't you? When one looks at it from that perspective it's actually quite a ways! All things being relative and all.......π
