  1. I dont think that red hooks matter. If they won't eat your topwater change the size, mine are moving fast, not sitting. I like a flouro leader on braid, usually 8-12lb, usually 3x for trout with the fly rod, rarely lighter than 5x. Do have some 6& 7x and it can make a difference if you are fishing tiny flies 18-24's. Probably a better drift with the lighter stuff, pretty sure they can see it.
  2. I like Riverfront but HVO is good too and in a better spot if you want trout. Usually stay at HVO due to the full service RV spots. Riverfront has water & electric but no sewer at your site. Only go there with my wife & daughters and they fill up the gray water tanks quickly.
  3. 33 positives out of 24,500 is about a tenth of a percent no worries. 5% I'd be concerned. Maybe those deer made poor lifestyle choices.
  4. Depends on the day...Try to get my fishing done early, then its time to party & sleep late.

    Pickled Asparagus

Drop them in a Bloody Mary and you won't care.
  6. Takes about 5 guys floating solo in tandem canoes to haul the tent & associated furnishings plus personal gear in or out. Aluminum pole bag in one, canvas in another, poker tables, grills, stoves, heaters, coolers, etc. get distributed amongst the rest. We're usually packed over the gunwhales. Not a great place to sleep though. Some will party till 2am, others will wake you up before dawn to rig up and go fishing.
  7. Anything is better than Old Town butt wet plastic bucket seats. Sit backers are OK. Have one for the front seat of my Wenonah, also works with my solo canoe. It is too wide for the back seat on my Wenonah though. Have some old seat frames if anyone wants them.
  8. My winter float trip group has a 17' X 12' canvas wall tent that we haul down the river in canoes. Works great. Used to heat it with one or two woodstoves (has two stove jacks) but we have gone to propane. Everyone's sinuses are allot happier.
  9. Have had spoonbill. Ok but not great. Bleading them out might help, get rid of any fat, skin, or red meat. Doubt if you would get 25% edible meat out of one fish. Would be pretty cool to have a cleaned & bleached spoonbill head though.
  10. Had one fall on my house during a storm about 10yrs ago. Insurance company found hail damage that was not disclosed on our inspection 2 yrs prior, so I got a new roof and $1500 to get the tree removed. Bought a $500 chainsaw and took the tree out myself. Have taken most of the Bradfords off of my property, and the chainsaw still runs.
  11. Did not have any input on that one so not my monkey. But will be gone soon. The other two we hired are kicking posterior. One has NO accounting background, but has done a fantastic job. Going back to school this summer to finish up MBA, and sit for the exam.
  12. Think we started that kid at 50K. Just a bad hire that is not working out.
  13. Go fish for Tarpon. You will forget about carp.
  14. They look good! Might have to start painting, some of my favorite colors are no longer available.
  15. I do that Forhan wrap on all of my single foot guides. It is not hard to do and have never had one fail at the wrap. You will bust the blank before the guides pull out.
  16. Almost roped me in, but will have to pass. One of my new hires is giving me fits...just lost, no clue, in one ear out the other. Cant believe that kid passed the CPA exam, does not know a debit from a credit. Will have a job opening soon. Accounting background a plus, but will train any with a good attitude and a brain. Westport area in STL.
  17. Folks have been doing goofy wraps on rods since they were invented. More wraps and epoxy just adds weight and takes more time. Can't see any benefit. Would rather spend my time fishing v wrapping.
  18. Do most of my fishing between Baptist & Welch Spring but I almost always float, or float in and camp on the river. Nps will close Tan Vat & Baptist if it's up a foot and rising on the Montauk Guage. It comes up and falls quickly. Should be good if the rain stops for a day or two.
  19. Akers guage says 1.2ft. which is just a couple inches over dead low. You should be fine to wade fish unless that level jumps up near 3'. It is very fishable at 3', but wading can be difficult, best to float. NPS will close the river to floating & fishing if it jumps up to 4' at Akers. Have had good fishing at 4.5' but you wont be able to cross the creek w/o a boat, and NPS wont want you there.
  20. My hotel owners inspect for that daily. On they room clean checklist. Train the cleaning staff and managers for it. Not fun to clean up.
  21. Plenty of access above and below the Fort. Float fishing is more productive than wade fishing usually. Break a leg.
  22. Ok, will take. Will PM for delivery & payment info.
  23. Thanks Guys. They are on Spring break, going camping with my wife later this week. Will be in town working, wish I could join them but to busy doing tax returns this time of year.
