Thanks for the update Mike. Think they should just leave it alone. The more they disturb it the more the river takes. Used to be a big deep hole at the end of a gravel road. Went south after they paved it.
Out last weekend, guess we picked the wrong one. Folks were in shorts last Saturday. That pic is from the Sunday blizzard of 2014. Took most of us 6hrs to get back to STL/STC that day. BTW, easiest place to put in at Baptist is behind the shitter. Most of the remodel has eroded away.
I’d contact Doc Thompson. Super nice guy, and native of St. Louis. Has guided the 4 Corners area for 25+ years. Saw him in town last December and he is still at it.
Have not hunted ducks in 35yrs, but a friend had an opening at his club in STC and gave me an invite. Killed 2 Mallard drakes, and a goose. It was fun, but I don’t like it enough to buy in to their club. Owe him an invite or couples dinner. Figure it’s to much cash to kill a couple ducks close to St. Louis. Will trade an float trip for a duck hunt. Not driving to poor line it.
Out camping on the Upper Current Weds-Sunday. We caught some nice browns, a couple rainbows, and some Smallmouth. A good number of legal trout, but no browns over 24” so no pictures. No crowd at all except for us. A few floaters and a handful on horseback on Saturday and that was it. Pulled out at Parker Sunday afternoon, home by 5pm.
It sucks when you lose your father, father-in law, father figure. They were they ones who inspired our love for the outdoors and they would want us to carry on. Set up an extra seat at the campfire for them.
Color does not matter as much as cadence and size. A bass or a brown trout should eat the front hook darn near every time if all is well. Tail hook, something is off our you just caught a dink rainbow. Debarb your baits. Easier to remove them from your hands when you get stuck, and you will.
You could shot gun a dillo real easy, Have killed them with a random stick on the ground when it is windy. An M-16 style in 5.56mm is very easy to shoot and a good one will put ten rounds in a 10” circle at 500 meters. Open sights. It happens all the time at Camp Pendleton.
Laker can sight fish. A fly rod does that better than anything. It is hunting not fishing. Gotta find a fish you want to catch first. You can bump them in nose our drift one into a trouts mouth after 2-3 adjustments but that’s not any fun. Will put the candy a foot away. The gotta move to eat or it’s just snagging.
Dunno, but you if you get J.T. Uptegrove, O.B. Blevins, or Crazy Bob Wilcox to blow a duck call you will kill ducks. If you don’t kill ducks, they can remodle your crawl spaces, kill rats in your barn, make themselves useful and clean out your liquor stash until you do kill ducks.
Dunno, my 9 yr old won a custom duck call at a charity raffle. It sounds pretty good, but a mallard duck call is a simple product and easy to make/copy. You could make some FW. You probably have all the tools. Figure it’s the person playing the tune more than the call itself.
