    What's Cooking?

Quick but good dinner tonight. Chicken Persilade(sp) with some spinach and roasted potatoes. Basically fried chicken with no breading and a pan sauce with some white wine, garlic, Italian parsley, and a bit of butter. Chicken gets S&P and 12 minutes a side.
  3. Ship ahead and ship it back. Our buy there and leave it if an option. Take the reels you like. Decent spin rods are cheap enough.
  4. Looks like fun, and a nice job on that rod.

    Winter Hoppers

Have caught plenty of trout on a Madame X all year long. Better bet in the Summer-LaterFall when crickets and hoppers are abundant but they will eat just about anything if they are active. Stupid aggressive fish usually, amazingly selective on rare occasions. Will be selective 5% (just a guess) of the time if feeding, but if inactive you are wasting your time.
  7. Usually a waste of time on all the creeks you mentioned. Not enough good water within walking distance. We catch them in blue ribbon trout water in the winter but you, need to jig or jerkbait fish for them in very specific locations. They seem to ball up. Might catch 10-12 or more out of a spot the size of a bathtub in a 100 yard long hole.
  8. Old post, but it should give you some ideas.

    What's Cooking?

Have not had Oysters since our annual NOLA trip. Felix's is a must stop if your in the quarter. Prefer east our west coast, but fresh gulf coast is pretty good. Acme is across the street but not as good IMO.
  11. Both should be fine. Camped at Montauk in the rain last weekend. Only came up a couple inches and the fishing was great.
  12. Nice Humpy's. Jerry Jarosik is/was? the Master of that pattern and he taught me to tie it. Still have a couple dozen of his Humpy's and Beetles but they only get fished to a picky riser.
  13. I use aspirin heads and stand up heads on most of my hair jigs that are not tied on Mitch's jig heads. The aspirin heads start as ball heads and I shape them in a vice. Not exactly even so the fall like a zig jig. Hardly ever lose one of Mitch's. Some have been worn out and retied a few times.
  14. Leonard M Wright's Fishing the Dry Fly as a Living Insect. Have not read it in awhile, but the presentation is pretty basic and it works. Downstream cast, drag it into the feeding lane, insert some slack and drift it over the fish. Drop, drag, drift and don't be afraid to move a dry fly.
  15. Brad Bowen & crew where over at Hargroves last. Wes did a nice trying demo on the Hang Time. Nice Guys! Think they fished today, but heading to Springfield then the White. Check out their show if you can track them down.
  16. Just a guess, but thinking Lake Perris. Its known for huge rainbow fed spotted bass.
  17. Would not call that a feature ingredient, but makes a good color contrast. Can sub it for anything that requires beans but hardly ever use them by themselves unless I want a dark colored base to contrast with other ingredients. Just beans.....most taste like beans. Any bean recipe will do...the rest is cosmetic.
  18. Most of the smallmouth will be up above the 19 bridge by Greer Spring, but you can catch them in the deep slow eddies downstream.

Thank you so much.   I have a buddy that invited me down to fish for trout and small mouth in December. We are going do a two night camp fish.  He said it was the blue ribbon and I don't see that on any map.  All I ever do is fly fish for trout up on white river.  I don't even own anything but fly rods so trying to make sure my drift boat will work as I believe they are using kayaks and make sure the water they are fishing is suitable for fly rods. Don't help as I have never even seen this river before.  I do greatly appreciate your help.

Bit of work to row/drag up to Greer but it's only 3/4 mile above the boat ramp. Paddled up there on a Friday the week before deer season and caught quite a few bass up there on 1/8oz hair and marabou jigs. Trout fishing was very good between Greer and Turner on Saturday & Sunday.

  19. Yes...We floated Greer to Turner right before deer season and caught both. Didn't catch a pickerel for the slam though.
  20. You should be fine anywhere below Greer Spring.
  21. Very nice Ron...plus they are easy to tie. If you want a better hook for them Bite Me Jigs makes a head that is almost identical to those Arky standup heads and it comes with a black nickel gammie.
  22. De-evolution to practical is possible too. Fly fished exclusively for 20 years. Still better than good at it. Get my most satisfaction out of making a good cast and watching them come and get it. Toss a bait caster mostly for bass. bought 50/30/20 fly/spin/cast for trout but snook & tarpon have been 100% fly. Will toss caster and a walking bait at those snook next time though.
  23. Guy I know got a ticket for molesting beavers a couple years ago...........Destroyed a beaver dam on one of the wild trout creeks, he is an engineer, but if you molest one beaver. As the old joke goes.

    What's Cooking?

Ciopinno isn't hard. Pick any recipe. It's Italian so lots of garlic and San Marzano tomatoes plus Fennel. Go to the Hill for the tomatoes. Bob's or your favorite Asian fish Market on Olive for the fish and shellfish. Season to taste. Do not over cook the fish. Use decent white wine too.

    What's Cooking?

Cleaned out the freezer today. Found some shrimp and some left over king crab, and some frozen corn. Had some small potatoes, so we did a seafood boil. Steamed the crab separate and it looks like we have enough left for some crab salad.
