  1. So in between picking up and dropping off my son for his Cross Country car wash, I was able to run some errands for the wife. Happens to be a creek running near where I was going. Had about 30-40 minutes free. I went to the creek, it was very populated with families swimming and wading. The water was very low and clear. I had a hard time to find a hole to try my flies. I finally was able to leave the crowds. I found an area large enough to cast, and I was able to catch a small sunfish. Just happened to be a group with 2 kids just down from me. I called out to see if they wanted to hold a fish. Of course they did. They were so excited, they had a bucket to keep the fish in. They were calling out each action the fish would do. And as they would walk away, they would run back to check on the fish. I showed them my lure, a woolybugger, and explained that it was not a fish nut it w a s designed to look like one. As I was walking away, asked the boys to take care of Freddy for me. Excitedly one of the boys asked, "Is that the Fishes name? Freddy?" I said "yup, Freddy the Fish". I was walking back to the parking lot and heard, in a load and happily excited voice, "Freddy the Fish is SMART!" That was one of the coolest things I've heard in a long time. No pictures, but none were needed. I'm still smiling.
  2. Kind of expensive $65.00 for about 1/2 pint. I was considering ordering a bottle. But upon quick conversions I think I'll just keep my Fireball and Jim Beam KentuckyFire. . Lol.
  3. I was genuinely confused. Seemed like a response to someone you thought may be trolling online. I do agree, he may find Tenkara interesting. I just was taken back, as I thought you were not a fan. Just found it interesting that you were promoting it.
  4. Yes sir. It was during a short time while the kids enjoyed a swim party for cross country. New pond. Fun times.
  5. Not really sure what angle(s) you are working towards. I don't believe you are giving a genuine response, not sure why. Tekara is convenient in a few situations. I still am happy with it.
  6. I have a Pflueger reel on a 6' medium action rod, and have been very happy with it for years. I think the combos are the best for price. As far as rod length, I like short rods. But I do alot of bushwhacking when I fish. I am generally in small creeks. Longer rods will get further casts. Fish have no idea what equipment you are using.
  7. I chose to get the 3 year plates for mine. I am not opposed to the dmv, we have pleasant people. Also, I'm worried about someone stealing my permanent plates. They are more likely to leave mine alone.
  8. I understand your thoughts John and am conflicted in my own thoughts about this. We can just do what we believe is best for our children, and hope we did the right things. I would love to see a fish of that size caught. In person.
  9. Glad to hear the water was slowing down. I couldn't get my son off the steps Saturday or Sunday due to the current flow. But we were able to find other things to do.
  10. Went fishing with Blake Harris and took my son Lucas. We had fantastic time. 4 units were running, we used Scud Rigs in the narrows. I caught the first fish, then Lucas just schooled me. As darkness set in, the scud bites slowed and we used signature series jerk baits. Lucas spanked me again. We had a great time. Got a new hat and sticker from Lilley's Landing along with some fly tying materials. I am generally a stickler for life jackets. It truly didn't occur to me until we exited the boat.
  11. Pete, I will gladly come up to your area and show you the ropes. @Johnsfolly showed me, and I've been decently successful. It makes a great difference in the learning curve and confidence to be shown, I believe. I just don't know all of the specifics of species. I did get the Fishes of Missouri book and have learned a lot. Even with that crutch, I don't have the vast knowledge of John.
  12. Wave as you pass through Festus. That's where I live. Enjoy the Arch. Just beware they do require you to go through a metal detection unit. Leave anything you want to keep. Hope you are able to read this in time.
  13. Thos is the only way I can catch fish. *This

  15. Nothing of size to report. I went out to a local creek. I had great hopes. I received a custom made top water lure from @BilletHeada while back. I had a great place that I wanted to try it. I saved it for this location on this creek. I took my homemade foam boat for a trip. The boat did great. I need to add a pull rope for the shallow drags, and some type of anchor. I didn't get far from the launch when I came across a nice group of young adults. They were curious about the boat. I stopped and talked with them for about 10-15 minutes. We hear of all of the riffraff but these were just a group of good people out enjoying their day. After declining a "brewski" I continued upstream. Came across a kayaker who was releasing a common carp. He didn't catch much as we crossed later in the day. I made it up to the special location. The creek has changed since I last was at this location. I got out of the boat to fish the creek. I started fishing just below in a new outcropping of boulders that seem to be placed to prevent erosion. Not long after I got 'Montauked'. The phenomenon where you are all alone then, suddenly you are not. Some one or a group decides to fish near or on top of you. Anyhow, the group moved up to the spot I had hoped to use my lure. I decided to go ahead and try it in this area. It worked like a dream! I got a few hits, but they were sunfish and did not get a good bite onto the lure. I had braid on this reel, and have broke off many times. The braid left was getting caught on the connection to the backing knot. It kept backlashing but when it casted , it was a great time. All said and done, a bad day fishing is better than working.
  16. I have always felt I got my values from my permits. I know of places to take squirrels and have the means. Just never seem to make time. I thought this would be my year. But got reeled back in to Scouts, and seem to have taken the duty of taxi driver to my 15 year old son. I am almost free. Lol
  17. Small game and fishing license is only 6 or 8 dollars more than fishing alone. I haven't went out for small game in a few years, but I always get them together. I like to have the option always available. I always get a trout stamp also. For less than a movie and popcorn, I can go out as many times as I want for fun in the woods and water within seasons.
  18. I am not very fluent in fly lines. What would these be used on? Size of rod, style of fishing etc? I need new line, but don't know how to purchase it.
  19. Cool. Never seen that battery. I've built 2 LiPo batteries, but I want more power. Going to build them twice the size.
  20. Light and twist of the wrist come into the equation as well. Many YouTube videos have thumbnail images that are deceptive in this fashion.
