I am not sure on the ignition timing indicator. Not sure how to tell to be honest. I've set timing on older v8 engines plenty. What am I looking for? Is TDC measured by the top or bottom piston? -
A cautionary tale. Warning (very graphic photo)

Holy cow, man. I'm so sorry to hear and see that. I'm glad you seemed to be in good spirits about it. That's quite a bit of damage, and I hope you get full recovery. I'm sure we will learn about that in following chapters. -

Frankenstein's replacement heart is ready for transplant. I've acquired the proper removal kit. It's new in packaging. Any tips tricks or things I need to be considering before or during the swap? Any worries with proper torque settings? -
Sounds like a wonderful trip. The last sentence says it all.

I have a buddy that I went to school with. He's a distributor up in Chicago. He sells them there in multiple stores.

What are you listening to?

I agree. It does bother me that we no longer have "oldies" stations to play songs like these. Not calling anyone's generation of music old. Just that was the genre. -

Hopefully so. -
I don't talk much about it. But as a kid 4 to 12 years old I wanted to be a scientist (chemist). Because on TV they would just mix random things and see what happened. That was it. Sounded like a job for me. Then came high school chemistry class. We spent what I believed was too much time researching and documenting what should happen, as well as safety protocols, and not nearly enough time making small explosions. I quickly changed my desire from becoming a chemist to become a marine biologist. I planned to join the Navy and onto college. Long story short, it didn't happen.

Update. I bought a used power head from ebay. I bought an Evinrude/Johnson flywheel removing kit as well. I really like the name Frankenstein, and wanted to bring him to life. Now to beef up my transom. -

I appreciate the info. Frankenstein isn't worth all that to me. It was a gamble, luckily not too much was paid. The search shall continue. -

Well, upon removal of the head, I found bad news. I can feel the scoring on the cylinder wall. Off to YouTube, I want to see what I may be getting into. Interestingly, when removing the housing for the thermostat, there were 3 10mm and the rest were 11mm bolts. But for the cover over the head, they were 1/2" bolts. -
It's an ad for Marijuana. I suspect it's a robot account.

Before and After - November 2024 Rain Event
Daryk Campbell Sr replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Chat
We really need rain in the East as well. But 3" in a couple days is alot, 6-10" maybe too much for the soil to accept. It creates flash flooding and instant erosion. -
Videos seem to be quality. Well done to you both.

I appreciate the heads up on the puller. I have multiple 3 jaw pullers as well as a steering wheel puller that looks similar. But I'll definitely need your warning. I should have a few hours tomorrow to remove the head gasket and inspect. *heed your warning. I need to start proof reading. -

I worked a few years at Advance Auto Parts, I'm familiar with the loaner tools. I'm not out much, so it's OK if i have other issues. I will go the way Wrench suggested first, then move on to the next possible solution. It was cheap for a reason. -

Alas, I got a compression test kit as well as a spark tester. I have spark on both cylinders. But the top cylinder has no compression. The lower has 125 PSI. Frankenstein will earn his name. How difficult would it be to possibly fix it. Assuming the worst. Any special tools needed? I have most tools that should do the job, including feeler gauges. But I have never honed an engine. Thanks. -

As far as the title, I'm curious if it was from another state with bill of sale. I could see where someone may have forgotten the year. The vin is off but I could also see where the E and L could be misrepresented. I did car insurance for 20 years. Early days of hand written info, it happened quite alot. Frankenstein will be it's name. I appreciate the info. Maybe between the info you gave and some dumb luck, I'll have a good few years. -
Seems to be a pretty significant amount at once. It's definitely welcome, and needed.

It is an electric start motor. The other side has the starter. I will look a little more to see what may connect. The bracket I'm talking about is different from the chilicke linkage. Here's a better picture. -
Neat, were the teeth potatoes?

Well done. Thank you for taking us along.

I bought a new to me motor. Per @fishinwrench's rave reviews I've been searching. I found an almost too good to be true deal. Guy got it on a boat he bought. He used it last year but it was giving him problems. He just got tired of fooling with it, and wanted a newer motor. He posted it on Facebook Marketplace for $450 with MO title. He advised it wasn't running. I asked what it was/wasn't doing. He said he just wanted rid of it, make an offer. I explained to him I didn't want to buy a money pit, offered $200. He accepted. I drove about an hour to get it. The title is in his name, transferred in the spring. I am mechanically inclined. Have most tools that would most likely be needed. I did have an issue removing the cowling I must admit. But I figured it out. I found this bracket that seems to be there to hold something that's missing. Any ideas? I know a compression test is the first to do, getting a gauge tomorrow. I've seen a few thoughts in how to do it. Remove 1 plug, or remove both. I'm familiar wirh timing on a vehicle, and only one is removed to find TDC. I would think the same with 2 strokes. Then the spark will be tested on both. I also found this bolt in the bottom of the motor housing. I didn't see where it may go, it's very covered in grease, as it has not been connected for quite a long time. Lastly, this electrical component seems to be missing a wire. Any idea what it is? No loose wires are in the area that are obvious. I plan to get this motor useful and take it to Jigfest. Any thoughts, tips, or advice is welcomed.
