  1. I crack'em pretty good. Bass have hard mouths and I'm usually using a pretty beefy hook. Lay a jig on the edge of a cardboard box, step back 30 feet and see how hard you have to jerk to drive that hook past the barb. You have line stretching, rod bending, and the box (fish) being pulled forward.....all at the same time. It takes more of a pop than you might think.
  2. Nothing elicits road rage worse than someone blowing their horn.
  3. Yeah I've heard that said over and over that L.O. isn't a concern.... That is the line of BS that is fed to the businesses on Truman when they get all up in arms because they feel sacrificed for the benefit of L.O. Anybody that lives here knows better. We absolutely know we are the favorite child. The parents just don't want to openly say it and hurt the feelings of our siblings. But consistently denying reality is nothing but a head game. L.O. is 100% your 3rd control point. Probably should rate #1 actually. I fear that you've been programmed how to think. You shouldn't let them do that to you. Peace, bro.
  4. You've gotta be kidding. The whole reason that Truman got stupid last year was 100% because of Lake O....... And Lake O couldn't open flood gates, or even generate heavily to allow room for Truman to let any water go because of the Missouri River level at St. Thomas. That is a quote straight from the ACOE briefing last year in Warsaw when everyone was loosing their minds. So conditions don't have to be very "crazy" to effect things. I'll refrain from making any weekly forecasts, but I can tell you for certain that whatever falls along the Osage basin between now and mid-May is going to have to be held, for the most part, behind Truman dam. And that could very easily be a significant amount of water. The probability is high, and they don't seem to be prepared for it at all.
  5. 20 is a bit rediculous, but 2-4 would have been smart.... enough at least to allow Truman down to 706 before this latest deluge. I'll be happy as a clam with higher water levels this Spring, but THEY won't....and that drama could have/should have been forecasted. Guess we'll just wait and see.
  6. Saved for posterity. 😊 I'll remind you that you said that around late April when everyone along the watersheds are having a poop hemmorage. 😂 Plenty of opportunities to loose a significant amount of held water has been passed by.
  7. I'm really beginning to question if these flood control geniuses know what they are doing. It's highly possible that they got so smart/so fast that they've lapped themselves....and become totally ignorant again. 🤔
  8. Ribeye in the sky, according to many.
  9. Nothing hammers a rocky bottom like an aspirin head jig. Sometimes that can get the bite going.....or so I've heard. I've actually never tried one.
  10. I always, and still do, consider Rush and Pink Floyd as a classification of music all their own. Nothing else out there quite like it.
  11. I remember cracking my two smallest toes on the bed frame. My imagination was going WILD that night. 😂 Talk about ruining the mood ! If you ever find yourself depressed cuz you can't get laid....just go barefoot kick a steel bed frame and you won't care about sex anymore at all.
  12. Yeah, "well traveled"..... that's me alright. I put some serious miles on my feet today, and never left the yard. Like a dog chasing his tail. Anyway.....Upper Niangua Top secret spring creek 😊 Buffalo river, Ar.
  13. Niangua Indian cr. Place I've been too many times
  14. We actually have fresh sprouts in the strawberry bucket on the south side of the front porch. And only the leaves along the outer edge have died, the others are still nice and green.
  15. Just below Burnt Mill Spring. Interesting history:. Burnt down during the civil war because they thought a white girl was hiding a runaway slave there. They wanted to kill them both. 🙄
  16. Little Niangua Gravois creek

    What's Cooking?

Yum! 🙂 Is that a complete meal for you? Cuz I'd require about 3 of those servings. 😏
  18. And it was cle'delicious 😋 I even did a double batch with an extra pan of cornbread so I can try out the air fryer gizmo AGAIN, for cle lunches the rest of the week. Usually I heat up leftover fried fish in the toaster oven.
  19. If you do it you'll clean it up !
  20. Save-a-lot salmon (farm raised crap I'm sure) is every bit as good as the stuff I've brought home from Michigan.
  21. Yes just a single layer. You don't want it too bouyant or it will float on its side instead of hook down. I just made a cardboard template to trace over the foam, and I cut them out with scissors. I don't go through enough of them to justify a special cutter tool.
  22. I'll see if I can come up with some fancy dialect for my dish tonight.....but I must warn you, we're serving it on paper plates and drinking from the can.
  23. It's White bass fillet night in the casa le'wrench.
  24. I just pulled one out and measured it, they are 2mm (3/32"). At least the last pack I bought from Walmart are. Some of the stuff I've gotten at fly shops is thinner, and denser. It's labeled "2mm" but it actually isn't. The stuff from Walmart is what you want for White bass sized Crease flys. Oh, and don't use 5 minute epoxy....it will get brittle and turn yellow, get the Devcon slow cure stuff. Here's the shape I've settled on for my template
  25. Yeah that works fine. 3M super 77 spray adhesive is what I use to laminate the popper heads. For Crease flys I just use the craft foam sheets from Walmart, probably about 3/32" thick. Don't forget that they get a light coating of epoxy over them.
