  1. In Clunn and Fritts defense, it isn't their fault. That's what happens when you are constantly put in a position to say something when you really don't have anything worthwhile to say. As for your "slow rod better during the fight" scenario....How do you get around the science that a fast rod (one that recovers from a bend faster) doesn't keep the slack out better during a jump & shake ? Just curious.
  2. Ok, take a fast action rod with 12# line on it, then take your slow parabolic rod with the same line on it and secure both rod butts..... Now pull out 30 feet of line, pull the slack out, then pull 12-15 inches against the rod and tell me that you can measure a difference. If you "think" you can then consider throwing wrist movement into the mix. I think your brain is playing tricks on you. If you claim that you can CAST a crankbait better with a slow parabolic rod.... I'll buy that. But this hogwash about how much better a fish gets hooked because of a slow rod....Noway, I Just can't convince myself to believe in that. Clunn and Fritts should have their nuts kicked up between their shoulder blades for even starting that rediculisness.
  3. Then you have people that think you need a soft parabolic rod, BUT low stretch line, to fish a crankbait. So much in the "science" of fishing is 100% mythical. That's obvious when you consider that soft rods, low stretch line, and extremely sharp hooks are contradictory to the desired end result. Certainly nothing "wrong" with extremely sharp hooks, as long as they stay sharp enough all day long. But if that tiny microscopic point rolls over or breaks off, and you fail to notice it....then you're screwed. I know the infamous Gamakatsu B10S that everyone loves is a perfect example of "too much". Too sharp, and too much tempering for the job at hand (which is FISHING).
  4. In my mind (because I'm not a metallurgist) there is a degree of sharpness where it is only good for one poke. I wouldn't want the hook point so sharp that I had to touch it up after every fish, or everytime it bumped a rock. If it feels really sticky on my calloused hands and won't slide across a fingernail I consider it sharp enough. I don't feel that I miss or loose any fish because of a lack of hook sharpness. Of course I could be wrong.
  5. I love fish and eat plenty of them. Whites, Salmon, Walleye, Crappie, Trout, and Catfish are my favorites, and in that order. There is always some fish in the freezer. I love learning new techniques, I just found dock shooting for crappie to be a pain because maintaining the right boat positioning requires such an effort. Plus I always stand to fish, so the constant getting down on one knee-- shoot the crack--then stand up and adjust the boat--then back on the knee--ect. ect....Good grief, if I'm gonna work that hard for a fish I want them to do something other than come so easily and willingly to the boat when I catch one.
  6. The "tick". Yeah I dig the tick, just wish they fought harder, jumped, or did something that could keep my interest longer.
  7. I mastered shooting docks, even rigged a rod specifically for doing it. Then I decided that it was too much work for CRAPPIE. I'll load up on crappie fillets when they are up on the bank and/or easy to get around shallow brush....then I'm done crappie fishing for awhile. I don't get the fascination that some guys have with crappie that keeps them chasing them all year long. Be darn if I'm gonna target them in 25-30 FOW or start trolling crankbaits and winching them in. They just aren't that fun to catch, and I can only eat so many.
  8. The Carb Kit number is Eska DI-52030 Tecumseh part number Tec 639-11 There are several sources, just google and pick one. O'Rielly's automotive can often get them too on special order. Fuel pump diaphragm and gaskets are NLA though, so you may want to make sure it's ok before bothering with the carb. In other words....the motor is only good for as long as the fuel pump lasts.
  9. You'd better quit messing with those !
  10. The insanity is undeniable, but I can't help but think it is the main reason for the outstanding fishing we have here. So much of the lake receives almost zero fishing pressure because for almost 5 months out of the year it can't be effectively fished. I fished here alot in the 70's-80's when you could still navigate the lake in a jon boat during the middle of Summer, and while the fishing was "good" it wasn't as good as it is now I don't think. The number of bass over 3# and the number of crappie over 12" sure seems alot better now than it used to be back in the "good ol' days".
  11. When a boat starts uncontrollably chine walking....standard protocol is to get OFF the throttle, not hammer down. This was a serious rookie move. Hope some learn from it.
  12. He probably rode a cruiser wake right up on there. They were still out running at 2:30-3:00am because I could hear them when I woke up to pee.
  13. When the lake gets too rough for a 44' MTI running at a moderate cruising speed I'd say it's time to admit that we have a wake problem.
  14. Yessir that truly was awesome. You two are definitely livin' the life. Keep it up!
  15. Hey, I got into a Ford/Chevy debate on BBC the other day, then while there I accidentally stepped into a pissing match about "Flag Etiquette". Guess what? I am banned for LIFE over there now. Those Ford guys are freakin' serious about Fords and old Glory! No sense of humor about it at all.
  16. Not sure who owns this piece of land, so scout it out first.
  17. Well when you get it cleaned up why don't you set up a GoFundMe thing, and let's get our buddy a gigging boat. Have the components shipped to me and I'll rig it FOC. A Lowe 1648, a 40hp jet, some lights, a generator, and some 2" aluminum tubing. Once it's done we'll have a Niangua gravel bar party and Oneshot can feed us like kings. Let's get started so it's ready by gigging season.
  18. I hate owning a fresh new truck or boat. Having to worry all the time about getting a scratch or ding on it is exhausting. And to think I have paid tens of thousands of dollars to feel that way....makes me question my sanity. For the price of that shiney POS I could have bought a dozen enjoyable rides and saved a ton in sales tax, insurance, etc. I never truly enjoy a vehicle or a boat until I've gotten past that stage in the ownership scenario.
  19. I have stood and just watched Suckers (undisturbed) and they don't seem to move around much. They just sit there and appear to be sucking on the same couple of pebbles for hours. So casting out a baited line and waiting for one to happen across it sounds like about as much fun as watching an old car rust. Tell your ol'lady that you are buying a gigging boat.... and that's that. Who wears the dam bibs in that family anyway?
  20. Sounds like the DS bite is on fire.
  21. Woah! Bet that was fun for awhile.
  22. There ya go! That's a nice one.
  23. Well if you just need a place to crash and take a shower... http://watersedgemotel.net/ If your looking for more plush digs....http://www.coconutsatthelake.com/rentals.asp Or if you bring a few slabs of ribs, some Miller Genuine Draft, and you don't mind sleeping on an air mattress with a yellow lab that snores.... you can crash at my house.
