  1. That is beautiful stretch through Salida! I fished the Arkansas down by Cotopaxi on the 13th. Browns were definitely active. Won't be long and the Caddis Will be swarming up the valley!
  2. I think I got lucky catching him Terrierman! bs1827 It was still dark at the boat ramp when we got out the schnapps. The shine was amazing to have on the ice. When I snagged my buddies spot the jar was pushed into the shavings next to the hole. Never will there be a more inviting ice fishing spot!
  3. Mdc's funding allows them to keep Missouri a desirable place to go enjoy the outdoors. 80% of the county I am in is public land and full of deer, elk, and antelope and yet I would rather be hunting whitetails in Missouri during the fall. The type of people in this country that would sacrifice our outdoor resources for anything political or personal are a threat to us all. Missouri just has a large population of cancerous hillbilly morons that infect the whole gene pool. I might be a hillbilly from Missouri too but at least Im not such a fool to throw my kids outdoor opportunities out the window because of political bs. I will be driving out the darn mountains 1000 miles to go hang out with my friends at Bennett Springs and Taney at the end of the month maybe not for the stockers but for the experience. It is special in Missouri and a lot nicer than any of the states touching it. I have had so many great experiences in Missouri outdoors and it would be shame to end up being a craphole with less public land or public water access. Missouri needs more bigger tracts of public land in central and northern parts of the state. let Mdc use the extra $ buying land everyone can use. Munflinger is a D*$kh*le
  4. Met some buddies at Twin lakes at 5:00 am. Headed out on the ice at 5:30 and started getting the holes ready. There was no wind on the lake which made it really nice out there. The vexilars were saying 15 feet of water at our first holes. No bites. Started to drink moonshine to warm up. Moved out farther on the ice and we drilled a grid pattern and used depth finders to map out a ridge that dropped from 20 to 30+ feet on 3 sides. As we started fishing here a older man came out of a ice fishing shed about 50 yards away wrestling a 30 incher. It was an amazing sight as he was an old white haired man in flannel and the scene looked like it was straight out of a ice fishing movie set in the 1920's. That did give me some more confidence that we might catch a nice one. We had nice fish coming through our holes but they were being very tight lipped and we only caught one 10" in the first couple hours. My buddy had a nice one messing with his line but he could never get a hook set on the fish. He finally became tired of this and went to do some exploring by heading to shallow water to drill more holes. I stayed back and decided to try his hole that he abandoned. It was the best decision of my fishing life and not so much for him. After 15 minutes of bouncing a white tube jig tipped with sucker meat off the bottom I received a light tug followed by a big boy TUG. At this point I was having a conversation and had been fishing while partying and had not had a bite all morning so was very surprised. After a 10 minute battle that included some strong runs and dives I was able to bring this beast out from under the ice. We took some crude measurements and pictures and dropped the fish back into the hole and he took off strong. The fish was between 32-34 inches and around 9-11 pounds. It was the first lake trout that I had caught since moving up in June. Beginners luck I guess. It doesnt hurt to go ice fishing with guys with 20+ years experience!!!
  5. I just moved to Buena Vista, Colorado. It is up near the Headwaters of the Arkansas river. There are 6 engineered rapids in town. It seems like they are fun to float through but the main objective of whitewater rapids is to make a "hole" that kayakers and paddleboarders can get into and stay in facing upstream so they can practice tricks in. I was shocked when I first saw a guy on a paddleboard standing up, facing upstream, in a class 2-3 rapid, doing tricks. When he wiped out he had a small window to get his board and get back to shore before going through 100 yds of rough water but he did it and so do many others. I moved here from MO on June 13 and so far 3-4 people have died on the river. I was shocked at that and hundreds of people still go out there daily. There is a very deep respect up here for the river, you have to have it or it will kill you. Anyway, the river is stuffed full of browns. With the swift current you can gaurantee there is a brown behind every decent sized rock for 50 miles in every direction, or at least it has seemed that way.
  6. Nice fish, I am moving from St. Louis to Buena Vista in 8 days and can't wait to hit some of the water up there. I love reading this forum and will try to contribute to this new section once I do some exploring. I will probably be hitting Twin lakes and Taylor park when not fishing the Arkansas. Maybe we can meet up sometime and do some fishing or hunting. My buddy lives in Gunnison so I will be down that way every now and then.

    Pit Bulls

Not personally. Back in high school I remember being at a couple parties that were obviously out of hand and when the police came to break it up, they always brought out the dog. It was overkill and always reminded me of being the same breed that had attacked and threatened me numerous times. Maybe I'm just being tough on shepards. I know they can be great dogs but only after being trained properly. Pitbulls are no different. If not neutered and trained at an early age they are pieces of crap. Take the Cesar Milan for example. His best dog was a 100 lb pitbull that was properly trained. That really makes me think the breeds that are known to be violent need extra training or all of them, not just pitbulls, need to be outlawed.

    Pit Bulls

This whole darn country has went dog crazy. Dog breeding should be illegal and every dog should be neutered or spayed. The way I see it is they are crossbred, inbred, dumb down wolve dogs that people defend way to much. I have been attacked by German shepards twice and would like to see every German shepard put down. They are more violent toward people than any other breed I have seen. They have a mean bark but a weak bite and are worthless if you ask me. The Ofallon MO police love them though and treat them like people.
  9. I hope they pull it off today. I sure would like to see a game 7 back in St. Louis. That goal in OT was a heartbreaker but if we win in Chicago today I would like our chances on Tuesday.
  10. Kathy, well stated. JD you make no sense and then get butt hurt and resort to "koolaid talk". I hunt deer right here in MO and so do most people I know. We all think your point of view is hilarious and ridiculous. Most deer farmers either sell deer to the public to be released on a piece of property without a fence to improve the local genetics or to a high fence hunting operations of which all people involved do not care about the wild deer herd or have no idea about anything other than paying for a big buck because they lack skills needed to go out and get one on their own. It doesn't take rocket science to know the difference between a wild animal species and domesticated livestock but apparently it takes a little more knowledge than JD and his deer farming sympathizers have. Deer farming should be heavily regulated by the conservation department, not the dept of Ag and the people who have done a great job degrading land and resources in our state for my whole life.
  11. Is there anywhere in the St. Louis Area with decals yet? I am wanting to put one of those bad boys on the cherokee.
  12. Sweet, Man it must be nice to go out the back door and hit the Niangua! I got to say you always have some good reports and pictures.
  13. I have been reading many articles about Wolf numbers remaining steady in Montana and the Northern Rockies despite all the hunting and trapping. It seems as the hunting and trapping is what is dispersing wolves into new areas thus causing the remaining packs in the area to be smaller. In theory this will allow the wolf packs to still trade genetics and most likely disperse into new areas while still keeping numbers in check. Perhaps elk numbers will grow while wolf numbers stay around the same and more hunters and ranchers will start to appreciate the wolves. Sounds like a limited number of Grizzly hunts are on the horizon, if delisted so that obviously will also help elk herd numbers. I honestly do not really think it is that easy to connect the dots so to speak as is done by the Discover article simply because I have taken Environmental Science in college and have also done similiar studies and I have seen how these assumptions are reached. I am confident wolves will continue to show up in new areas and elk will be fine and hopefully hunters and non-hunters will start to get along better. http://mtstandard.com/lifestyles/recreation/in-bitterroot-wolf-numbers-remain-steady/article_ca01aae8-b547-11e3-8032-001a4bcf887a.html
  14. My buddy told me a great piece of advice regarding safety while ice fishing after seeing all the people at Busch. Up north it is the norm to only make holes 8 to 10 inches wide this way you or somebody else cant fall in the hole after it freezes back over. Down here people make big holes that could freeze over thinly and might get a little snow on them and then it becomes a trap. Just thought I would add this to prevent some one from falling in a hole.
  15. Thanks for the video! Best part "oh my god" followed by "I dont know what to do". I also need to go to the Little Red, even more so after seeing that hook jaw beast.
  16. It is unfortunate that a wolf was mistakenly shot, however, In Missouri NO coyote hunter expects to see a wolf. They aren't recognized as inhabiting MO. If the Discussion was made by MDC that they are here then MO hunters will look harder at the coyote. 80 lbs is small for a wolf and coyotes get over 30 lbs. The guys on here that are looking at a closeup of the wolves head are and saying even I knew it was a wolf should be working for mdc especially if their biologist were not sure after looking at it closeup. Coyote/wolf crosses are not that common but happen and can affect the regional size structure of coyotes making some bigger than coyotes one county over.
  17. What time is the meeting tonight? The guy in that video is beyond a fool. He acts like he is saving the river by letting people abuse it. If he had his way Missouri would be like Colorado and landowners would own the river.
  18. Went out bowhunting for the first time since going to Colorado. Called my younger brother to see if he wanted to go and he said he did. Friday mo. rning the temps were chilly and we thought the deer would be up and moving. We went to some public ground in northeast mo and we were able to get about a mile back in there before daylight. As soon as we got to a nice spot we did not even have a chance to sit down and deer were swarming us. 8 deer passed us in 45 minutes. The last two deer was a doe being closely followed by a nice 10 pt. My brother was presented with a 15yd shot. He ran 50 yds and dropped. First hour of the first hunt of the year!
  19. Jailbreak, that's pretty Dang funny.
  20. The number of 10-15 hunters is not very many and should not impact the number of elk in a negative way, they are producing more calves than that every spring. I would love to bow hunt elk in the ozarks, especially since I watched a elk hunt in Arkansas on the outdoor channel. It was a young boy around 10-12 years old with his father. They floated the buffalo river and hunted from the bank by stalking the fields in the river valley. He ended up getting a nice bull and was so excited. This could easily be accomplished in MO and will. I am hoping that the elk will disperse into other areas like the Current River and all of Mark Twain Nat Forest once the hunting begins and once there hopefully they will continue to grow like the deer herd did throughout the state. Every year that 30K will be diminished to the point of the move making money for Missouris outdoors. These Elk are wild. They were born in the wild and have wild spirits, unlike elk born in a farm barn or field. The calves will born on Peck and they truly will be wild missouri elk just the deer in Mo are. I am just excited about it and the oppurtunity to see it happen in my lifetime and maybe my kids will get a chance to do what the young by in Ark was able to do. I am leaving on Fri. Sept. 20 for Central Colorado for nine days to spend in the Raggeds with my Brother who is 22 and has never hunted elk. I am sure we will remember this time forever and we will always look back at the time we were young and did not have kids and could run around the mountains. We will be spending at least 1500$ between the two of us, and possibly more. The Outdoors is about making memories that you cannot put a price tag on but in ten years I would gladly spend and stimulate the local economy if the chance was there.
  21. Plain and simple, there are at least 150 million cars with 2" exhaust pipes pumping out co2 at least 45 minutes a day in just this country alone. 150,000,000 x 2" = 300,000,000" pipe. 63,360" = 1mile. That is a pipe 4734.84 miles wide pumping out co2. You be the judge. There is evidence that the world had very high co2 levels long ago and vegetation thrived, so maybe it could be solved by co2 breathing organisms called "plants". I somedays cant help but see the damage people do to the world and on others I think that it all would correct itself if we where extinct. Like George Carlin said "We are a mere case of fleas, a surface nuisance, that the earth would just shake off if it wanted to".
  22. When I was down there on friday the water was just getting back down from flooding and the fish had not really seen any activity. The water still had a murky tint to it and a streamer in any color would work, the lighter the better so the fish could see it. When you go I really dont know the river level situation so it might be different.
  23. I parked at the cable and dropped in and fished the stretch right below then had to climb the opposite bank to walk the levee in between the river and the ponds that are right across from the cabins. I started seeing big piles of horse crap and tracks everywhere and just figured that the park ranger had his horse up there but 20 minutes later there were five big horses on the levee. A big black one and a big white one with a couple others. They were only there for a second and they just ran up into the hills. I came home and looked it up and there used to be 2 groups of 35 total horses running the hills down by eminence but now there are 4 groups of up to 50. They capture some and give them up for adoption if the herd gets to big. Wild, we have lions, bears, wolves, horses, and squatches in them woods.
  24. Here are some shots, didnt get the horses unfortunately but they did leave some evidence on the levee in the form of massive piles, nothin photoworthy.
