  1. I still cannot figure out how to post a picture on this website.
  2. Surgery might suck but not having it when you need it sucks even worse. Good luck, heal well and heal fast. Do the rehab with a vengeance, you'll never be sorry.
  3. Another skill that Boy Scouts helped me to perfect.
  4. I just looked at the river we plan to float tomorrow and Friday. It's running a little over twice the 75th percentile. It looks perfect. I'd go with what the outfitter had to say and only bail if I saw it myself and thought it was too high. Good luck to you all.
  5. Where should I go fishing and what should I use?
  6. An easy feature to use to know the difference between water moccasin and other water snakes is a distinct neck. If the snake has a noticable neck, it's a moccasin. If the body just goes to the head without a narrower neck, water snake. Water snakes will flatten their heads and bodies to look threatening. But they can't make themselves look like they have a neck. Markings are a lot less reliable so far as I've been able to tell.
  7. Crocs on a gator hunt. Classic. Only you. Been back to the Bryant yet?
  8. So. What did they taste like?
  9. The problem at Dawt is there is presently no safe way around the dam if they're not open. I totally understand the access restriction.
  10. There's a group of us planning to take an overnighter Thursday and Friday on one of our local streams. It peaked at about 14' on Saturday night and it's already back to about 5'. Absent any more significant rain this week, I'm thinking Thursday and Friday will be as close to ideal as we're likely to get. That's one of the good/bad things about these Ozarks streams, man oh man are they flashy, come up fast (it rose about 6' in an hour in the middle of the night Thursday) - dangerously fast at times - but they get back to reasonably normal quickly too.
  11. They're there to teach them how props and amputees go together so well.
  12. I'm really happy soloing in my Mad River Legend 15. I'm a pretty good sized guy and like the size of the boat. It handles very well. The extra capacity is really nice for overnight trips. We're going Thursday and Friday assuming it doesn't rain much again between now and then. Totally agree on Royalex as the right material for canoes and also on the durability. Wore through the outer layer of the Legend in about ten trips. Which is no biggie, the Kevlar skid plates (which every royalex canoe needs anyway) took care of that in nothing flat.
  13. Nylon bags of roe, now that brings back some memories. We used to use that and fish below the island at Point Lookout and catch some nice ones. And fast too.
  14. Describing the dam at Dawt Mill as a navigation hazard is very generous on your part Mr. Catman. Yes, it's a problem.
  15. With the water we'll be getting for the next couple of days, your options should be many. Best of luck no matter where you go. My offer is still open.
  16. I duck hunted and fished for years out of a 16' john boat with a 9.9 Evinrude on it. I wish I had it back right now.
  17. Best river story ever in the history of rivers.
  18. I just learned something! And when I was talking about the Sunfish Family, I was including the larger members.
  19. Oh a drunk float tripper reality show would totally make it in today's market.
  20. That was kind of you. It bugs the hell out of me whenever I see a snapper run over in the road. Some people have no respect for the world they live in.
  21. I'm going to learn to fly fish for the sunfish family. Very nice.
  22. The point of testing at the park and at the two accesses on the James is to sample where people are most likely to be in the water on a holiday weekend, not to characterize water quality. It was the Christian County Health Department doing the testing and reporting, not MDC or even MDNR.
  23. If the contamination is human based, the most likely area is Linden.
  24. Sir, the sample point was the park in Ozark, upstream of Ozark and Nixa's wastewater treatment plant outfalls.
  25. Below the sampling point. Today's testing can tell you what animal the e-coli came from. I'm betting geese based on the sample point being the park in Ozark.
