  1. I live in B.V. On my way out at 5AM this morning I could only see tiny portions of pavement thru the blanket of leaves, sticks, & branches that covered the road to the highway. Haven't seen it that bad in my 33 yrs here. Must have had a heck of a blow, but I slept thru it until the power went off. Haven't heard about a tornado, but we certainly had some strong winds.
  2. "To the bottom of the lake" is a stretch for hulls with Basic Flotation. They stand up like a pencil float, mostly submerged.
  3. Tracking studies (Santee Cooper IIRC) observed schools doing 80 mile round trips every day for weeks. They overnighted near the dam, headed uplake at sunrise ~40 miles, and were back to the dam by dark, presumably feeding along the way.
  4. If you're after those bugeyes, the islands Ham mentioned are a good place to start this time of year. Some of them are visible, some are completely submerged. There's also some submerged weedbeds you won't find on our other highland lakes. For a lake that looks much like what you're used to, it's got some different bells & whistles.
  5. There'll never be another ewe...
  6. I tried to go thru Anderson right after the downpour quit yesterday AM, saw 3 vehicles with their lights on (and presumably people inside) all pinned against trees in fast moving water up to their headlights. Tried to pull over to offer assistance but the police said rescue crew was coming and I should get on out of their way. Scary business.
  7. Duck Dynasty Disillusionment
  8. Understood. That's why I don't spend the time on my favorite lakes that I'd like to anymore. Wakeboaters have no respect for crazy. 😉
  9. Drunks, crackheads and tweakers are nothing to be scared of, you just have to show them that you're crazier than they are. In their compromised condition, that's pretty easy to do.
  10. Nothing in particular to be suspicious about, Missouri has created laws mandating e-fuels, and Arkansas hasn't. They did it in front of God and everybody, and the media covered it. Probably has something to do with the fact that lots of people in Mo. have corn to sell, Arkansas, not so much.
  11. Best of luck on your new water and adventures yet-to-be-had.
  12. Mine too. Odd we've never run in to one another. 😉
  13. Minor correction; hardest thing ever is quitting nicotine. After 40 yrs of pack-a-day smoking, I switched to vaping in 30 minutes. One of the easiest things I've ever done. 2 weeks later a 2 year old case of bronchitis I couldn't shake just vanished. I feel way better and it only costs about 1/4 of what smoking costs. I never want another nasty cigarette in my life. Dreading the day I decide to quit nicotine.

    Goggleye?

Once you have a green sunfish in hand, it's really easy to ID by the feel. They're way softer all over, with the dorsal being the only place to poke you, and even that's pretty tame compared to other sunnies. I suppose that's why flatheads prefer them, they'd be way easier to swallow whole.
  15. Sure does. I hear leaf blowers 24/7.
  16. All this timely talk about kayaks & wakeboats lately made me wonder what would happen if they crossed paths... guess I'm way behind the curve, they already been there, done that;
  17. Sshhh... what they don't know won't hurt us.
  18. We all need to do a better job of promoting golf.
  19. Used to have a late '60's Skeeter Hawk (acclaimed as the first 'glass bass boat for those that remember) with a 20HP Merc & stick steering. Took it to the Quachita River a few miles below Lake Catherine to chase walleye early one spring. Got to the ramp just before dark and the river was rolling... must have had some gates open at Remmel Dam. I put in and spent a good portion of the night just trying to navigate the flow & the strainers upstream to a hole I'd been told of. Finally found the hole and some semi-slack water and anchored up and threw out a couple bait rigs. Cold & tired, I dozed off. Woke shortly after with a start 'cause one rod was jerkin' in its' holder. Pulled in a decent 'eye, and the other rod started dancin'. 6lber that time. It was just beginning to get a little light by then, and it seemed the river had calmed a lot. Before I could get rebaited I saw the near bank was wet several feet above the current water level... SSHHTT, they closed the gates! Hurriedly, I pulled the anchors and headed back downstream toward the ramp. Then I learned the true meaning of "the bottom fell out".Had to jerk off the 20HP and dump the bait tank and drag that Skeeter for a couple 25 yard stretches, and in a hurry too. I was young and fit then (and accordingly stupid). I couldn't do it now, nor would I try.
  20. Evidently the site filter isn't programmed for all of them. 😁
  21. More than 1250 English words contain the 3-letter sequence "posterior". Testing 1... 2... 3... compassion...

    Lake Level

...That plus the Mississippi is just 4' shy of flood stage at Memphis and projected to be there at least another week.
  23. We grin at that, but that's exactly how we did it when I was much younger fishing the Grand River in north Mo. We'd buy an old 3-5HP from Bad Bob Breeden for $25 and run it till it dropped. Shuck it off in the first deep hole, float back to our truck, and run to town hoping to find Bad Bob in a pleasant frame of mind (drunk). $25 later we'd be on our way back to the river. Wish I had some of those antiques today, there were some cool old Scott Atwaters, a Goodyear, some Evinrudes, and a no-name or two that I recall. Bob never had a Mercury. We always kept a coat hanger handy for a plentiful supply of shear pins.
  24. Yep. Fortunately, while social media debates the pros and cons of renewable energy, there's a bunch of really smart and motivated people that have grasped the concept of selling sunshine and wind... My Grandpa had a windmill that spun a 12V generator that powered a pump that filled his stock tanks before he ever got electricity. Long after the neighbors had REA power , he refused to connect. People are funny creatures.
  25. Go right ahead, some of these goobs could use a little Grammatikkorrektur. 😊
