  1. Yes, but that tree has since been long gone! That and the hole has since filled in almost all the way.
  2. True that they only stock at the bridges anymore and that is it. The middle got washed away from a flood a few years back and they never went in and fixed it. You just go ahead and stick to fishing Hickory then and that will leave the rest for us to catch! lol
  3. Oh, I guess I will show up for the shindig again! ๐Ÿ˜„ I mean I am kind of supposed to be there for some reason or another. Start at nine like always, but this time let's meet in the lower parking lot. We can decide from there where we want to split up and go. I drove over the creek yesterday and it is low and clear. Tjm, that is why hardly anyone else fishes Capps! Unless of course there is a fresh stocking and then all the locals show up for a fish fry! lol
  4. Congrats on that one!
  5. Yeah, plenty of eager fish for sure. I saw a LOT of people hooking up with fish all day long I was there.
  6. Well, I didn't do as well as I have in the past. Not from lack of trying that's for sure! I couldn't tell you how many times I got hung up and had to re-tie! Buzz did well though. He caught a nice big fatty up in the first hole and I think he may have got close to 100 total. I only nailed 25 total and my biggest was probably around 15". We didn't measure Buzz's fish, but I'd say it was in the 23-24" range and was well over 5 pounds.
  7. Uhm. Only one reply to this thread? I remember when I lot of people would go from here, but I guess it just isn't as popular as it used to be. Is it because they just don't put any real big fish in there anymore or what? I go to just warm up my techniques on the slime rockets before I start to really fish for them!
  8. The coldest time of the year! BRRRR January. Real only time I could schedule.
  9. Thanks guys! That is what this forum is all about, helping your fellow fisherman. My only real concern is the time of year we would be going. I don't want to get stuck in a blizzard!
  10. OK, so my neighbor has talked me into going out to Colorado to fish the frying pan next year. I know it will be crowded and all, but has anyone on here fished it and if so what were your thoughts?
  11. Who's going this year? I know Buzz and I will be there on Friday. If you go look for us!
  12. I saw that as well and thought Dogwood Canyon all over again. You know he will follow the successful blueprint like he has in the past. Shouldn't be a shock to anyone on that.
  13. What? Uh, I guess all these years I have been doing it wrong. You mean you don't hold the reel facing up? And you don't put the bait caster on the spinning rod? lol I know everyone here has seen that!
  14. Not to question ethnicity on this or jump to conclusions, but I had a kid working for me last year that was Hmong and they were looking to hunt for the little tree rats and put on a huge feast for there community. He kept asking me about squirrel tournaments and property they all could hunt on. Not saying this was the case on this bust, but it does make me wonder now. Although I'm pretty sure the group he was with would have only taken the legal limit. It still would have been a lot since he wanted to go with about 20 others.
  15. I didn't grow up there and I got asked all the time!
  16. Ya all got a little bit off topic, but I will chime in and say I absolutely cannot stand St. Louis! Lived in the area for around 5 years and no way I would live there again! I to never understood the whole "what high school did you go to" question. Although everyone asks you that no matter what the first time they meet you. Wrench, I have been into those caves around Alton as well and all I found was mud and maybe some used needles. Either way do any of you really care who took ownership of that cave? As long as they don't destroy it and keep the public out of it then it should be fine I would think.
  17. I actually liked his show he had as well. I thought he was pretty funny.
  18. Have they found the guy yet? I saw where he was from Texas and with a group when he tipped over. My guess is he succumbed to hypothermia and went under?
  19. Pretty sure in Missouri there is no liability for the outfitters. That is why I always get so mad about them putting in floaters on Elk river that have no business being on there. Same with any other streams in MO as well. As long as you got their money, put them in and turn away. I have floated in a kayak on both Taney and Norfolk tailwaters, but NEVER when they are generating that much! The last time was on Norfolk they were running water and I was glad a guide told me to stay to the right of the islands. It could have been really bad had I not, and had I not had experience in a boat of that size. Of course my parents gave me a little common sense so I am thankful for that.
  20. You guys really shouldn't be picking on the Amish. Although you aren't really wrong on the whole taking the resources from the land. We had an Amish family living on our land out in the country and we let them live rent free. It was an arrangement that they were to clean up the property and they had to pay for water, electricity and so forth. The land isn't much suitable for growing crops or cattle. Wooded with hills. We had a logger come in before them so there were downed treetops and such that the logger couldn't sell. I told the Amish they could have all of that they wanted and could sell it if need be. Of course they took that deal and instead of outright selling the wood they traded for it. No big deal to me, I just wanted it gone. After they got all of that they wanted more. In which I mean they didn't want to work too hard for the wood down in the valley, but he got mad at me when he asked if he could start taking down good trees and I said no. I told him we already cut down what we wanted to and were fine. He couldn't understand why I wouldn't let him log the whole 60 acres!
  21. I never understood the whole rock stacking thing. Anytime I see them on the shoreline I go and kick them over! Although normally most of them get washed away from the floods.
  22. I was in the Springfield store about a month ago and couldn't find what I wanted as well. I actually got help pretty fast, but when I asked him if they had this or that he said maybe, but probably not since they were selling out of things faster than they come in the door. It has definitely gone downhill from in the past. I didn't find what I was looking either.
  23. Those three would defiantly make it to the top of the list. Years ago I would have said Big Sugar in my neck of the woods, but since the last big drought it wouldn't even make my list for the top 20! I only said that one because there was a span of 6 years I caught one 18" or 19" consistently. That and I saw someone catch one over 22" on a leech.
  24. Oh heck no. That was sold back at the first of the year. I bought his boat , then turned around and sold it. With the money I bought a new kayak.

    Report 8/1

Just a quick report from yesterday. Buzz and I got on the water a little later than normal due to the expected rain in the forecast, but we were fishing by 8 for sure. Buzz started out quick with a couple on top water and I had one blow up as well, but nothing to hand. The fishing was really slow the first two hours of the morning and I thought it would just be one of those days where we drink more beer than actually fish! lol That all changed about half way through the float. I finally landed one in the yak and it was a chunky 12" largemouth. Then I had another one on right away, but it threw the lure out and that was it for me for a while. Buzz caught a couple more though and the bite started to pick up. We stuck with throwing top water because by God they finally were hungry and were hitting the bait all the time now! Buzz lost a good one that threw the lure as well. I caught about a dozen or so and I know Buzz caught more. The one thing we both noticed though, was just how many times we had one on and it would throw the lure. Those darn treble hooks will catch everything else like trees, root wads, moss, clothes and anything else imaginable, but sometimes they just won't stick in a Bass's mouth!๐Ÿคจ It turned out to be one of the better outings we have had in sometime. We slowed down our float at the end and were still getting hook ups and blow ups well after 2 in the afternoon. It was one of those days were you could truly say you left the fish biting.
