  2. Slowly getting everything together. Can't find the stuff I need where I live so I'm just waiting for fed ex. now. Probably start some tomato seed within the next couple weeks. That's gonna be the main thing again this year. The ground where I grow needs a break, it's pretty much used up and depleted now. I'm going to use containers this year and got some super soil from the closest nursery delivered yesterday. When the mail order stuff gets here I can get after it.
  3. Fished from shore 7-10, E,NE wind ,,off and on misty sprinkle rain , caught everything swimming 4" grubs in 3-5' foot of water. Caught 7 barely keeper kentuckies , some tiny baby largemouth, and 4 stripers in the 16-18" range.
  4. About the jerkbait thing, Some people use them as search baits. Some just throw it because they really like to use them and have confidence when it's in their hand. It's their go to bait. A lot of people say they aren't getting bit ,when they are! so who knows. I prefer a lipless crank over a jerkbait right now for a search bait. A lot of the fish I get on a jerkbait I can't see on my electronics, especially if they are on the bank, and where I"ll throw a jerkbait on the lake is very specific right now ,more than it will be in a few weeks. We gotta stay a step ahead of the bass right now, they are on the move. It's March.

  6. I use a slip bobber rig. Cigar floats. Push the plug into the top,(either end) and I like Eagle claw bobber stops. Never have problems with the jig not sinking. Sometimes theres a little bit of foam inside the float you have to poke out with a piece of wire, but most of the floats are hollow. I use braid tied to a very long leader of 6lb. Typically 20'. usually set the bobber stop somewhere between 8-15' above the jig. This won't work very well at all with mirco guide rods. With a 1/16 or 1/32,the only two sizes I use, the float it sits a little bit sideways on the surface. lift bites it lays totally flat. When they grab it and go down it stands up and goes underwater. As far as spooking fish in clear water. Sometimes it depends on the boat. Bigger boats with bigger motors are gonna easily spook more fish than a tiny boat with a trolling motor, a canoe or kayak. Sometimes I think just a ticking transducer will even spook fish, other days I've seen bass come up from 20+' to the boat to investigate the clicking noise. I can sit right on top of bass and crappie that are just 6-8' under me. Where you can see the bottom in 12'. They only spooked when a 20' bass boat with a big motor shut down 50 yds from me. I've been fishing off a dock and could see crappie suspended 3-4' down. A bass boat comes into the cove shuts down 200' away and all the crappie under that dock spooked. Other days I've caught bass with boats running around me all over the place right beside me, guess it just depends on the mood of the fish. From my experience the colder the water, the easier they spook.

    What's Cooking?

Made chili Half a large onion chopped then browned in the pot with no oil added. Add 1/3 c worchestershire sauce to deglaze. Then added 1c frozen diced green and red peppers. In a separate pan I browned some burger earlier , just plain no spices. Add that to the onions and peppers now. Next pour in one can of tomato sauce, one can of diced tomatoes and green chilies, one can of Bush chili beans, one can of water, and I used a chili spice packet,1tsp sugar, and 1tbsp black pepper. Stir together and simmer low for 30 min

  9. The only thing that bothers me when I fish Taney are the pontoon boats that troll. For some reason they like to get really close to me. Then when they get really close they reel in their lines and start the motor again, sometimes that takes a while, and then they hammer down the throttle 50' from me and then run straight up the bank I'm fishing right in front of me. That happens all the time, regardless of what time of year.

Bluegill, white bass, and crappie My version of deep fried onion rings. So crispy and very lightly battered . Thin sliced onion dredged in flour dipped in a very thin mix of flour water and black pepper and a pinch of cornmeal. Just thick enough where it clings to a fork yet still runny. I hate thick sliced and heavy battered onion rings. Try to bite them and the whole onion comes out leaving just the ring of batter coating yuk😝 Green beans and homemade red potato salad
  11. yes the technical part It's as old as the hills Bill. The people who showed me had been trolling cranks for crappie on Bull since the 60's. I wasn't even born yet.. Back then they used Storm. Rapala. Bomber.
  12. Find that odd, was the water too muddy? They work just fine for me and lots of other people.
  13. Trolling pearl red eye bandit 300s for pre post spawn crappie , they must have heard about that from Bull Shoals? First time I saw that done was over ten years ago from a couple who stayed at the Theodosia corps park every year. There plenty of people who catch offshore suspended crappie, decades ago before livescope. I've shown dozens of people how to do it. All you need is a $99 or whatever fish finder to see them. The rest is pretty easy. This same technique also works in 44-46Β° pre spawn water. If anyone wants to know how I do it. The trolling cranks deal. Send me a message.
  14. I don't understand why people spend thousands on electronics ,but won't buy a couple hundred dollar camera that confirms what you are seeing on your fancy equipment πŸ€” I've got about $400 total in electronics and a camera. I almost always know what kind of fish I'm seeing on the screen. Why guess, just look...
  15. Ned catches fat bass in the winter. Its part of my winter bass box also. There's the proof , and these guys know. It's not just a dink fish lure if you know what to do with it.
  16. Last year the rains screwed up my walleye fishing in January. Tuesday I decided to go ahead and try it for a couple hours mid afternoon. I can get to my favorite spot by boat or bank ,the wind was just a little strong to try to mess with the tiny boat ,so I fished from the bank. About thirty minutes into it I hooked a decent size walleye, probably 17-19", don't know for sure because she spit the plug right as I was about to hoist her in. Came right to the top thrashing her head like a bass. I was trying deep medium and shallow jerkbaits. Snagged two deep divers in some buck root and lost them. Even the plug knocker wouldn't un snag those ewg gamakatsu trebles.. Too deep to wade out out and get. Back to the shallow diver now. Hooked another walleye ,a dink, maybe 8". Got to touch him. Then I got a one hell of a bite. Pulled back and immediately felt those big head shakes, made about six cranks of the reel handle and it came off. Never saw it but it was something pretty big. And that's how it went, 3 bites one fish . It was probably the wind that had them up in that 8-12' zone near the bank. Will try again , the majority of my biggest walleye are caught last week of December through first week of February.
  17. They were hungry, didn't matter if it was slow, still ,or fast. In Winter, when I'm shallow jerk bait fishing ,like along the bank, I tend to fish them a lot faster than you'd think. It's only when I'm trying to pull them up from deeper water , or fishing around brush piles ,that's when I let it dead stick for a while. Those fish that are in say 4-8' along the bank can get a really good look at the lure, so I keep it moving, not so much forward movement, but keep it moving. Some of these bites are reaction bites I think. The erratic movement triggers the predator inside
  18. Gosh I thought this topic had dried up. Happy to see someone postπŸ˜€ nice work on the warts!

    What's Cooking?

Beef Stew tonight, biscuits are just about done Not sure why it's so hard to get pearl onions around here, when I do see them I grab several bags.
  20. Red is a very popular color on Bull. Can't tell you how many bass have been caught on Gene larew red worms and craws and red crankbaits over the years. Red jerk baits too, Jewel makes a red single spin that was a killer at night. πŸ˜‰
  21. It looks bigger in this picture than it really is. About 3/4 inch shorter than a Smithwick Rogue. Nothing complicated about it, just red.
  22. She's gonna grow up to be a big girl some day.
  23. 1/9 Bank fished today close to home from 2:30-5:30. Overcast, light N wind. 35Β° Man did it start out slow, but the last hour and a half before dark was bonkers. That's when they fed ,late in the day. Caught 28 bass. All largemouth 10-13" except for one. Small jerk bait I custom painted. Fish were just off the bank where you couldn't see the bottom, say 6-8'. I just walked the shore making parallel casts. One bank they were on there thick! Had to roll up my pants and go shoeless into the water about knee deep to get that plug unstuck. It was worth it though. A couple casts after that she bit me.

    What's Cooking?

This afternoon I boiled some chicken thighs, and threw in some noodles for tonight's supper. Went a did a little fishing in between.
  25. It's not. Taney is just a 30 minute drive for me. I fish there but never do reports. I use a river 2 sea lure that gets big bites. Trout and bass both. No ,it's not an S waver . The big bass I find are almost always in the same area/s, so I'm not so sure they move a lot. Summer Fall Winter Spring ,same places.,same lure. I'm convinced it's the lure I'm using that they cannot resist. The bigger trout I've caught seem more unpredictable. I might make 5 or 6 trips a year there. A couple times each season maybe ,if that many. I just prefer Bull any day over Taney. πŸ˜‰
