I would hit all the fishy spots... riffles, pools, riffles into pools, seams, etc... by starting down stream or below them don't just wade into the water... stay on shore and systematically throw up stream and drift down and past, do this a few times, then move out a bit and repeat... then move up stream some more and repeat again, this way you are covering all the water. Also, you'd be surprised how camoflaouged the fishies can be..that's why it;'s better not to just charge in the water to a nice looking pool you see. They are typically facing up stream fishing so coming in behind there vision helps a little sneaking up on them. Sounds like you can sight fish them, so observe what they do when your bug drifts by, if they spook when your indicator hits the water, then you think about removing it and kind letting the bugs drift without an indicator, if your fly line moves at all, hit it. I have not fished BSC, but have fished similar waters. Thanks for the beer offer

Yea, I think you leader length is perfect, I will typically give them a choice a little bigger bug on top, point fly, and drop a smaller bug off it . Also, weight is really important, they may not move much for. food, so it's important to make sure it get's down in front of there snoots, I use a tugneston bead head bug for the point fly, then it's a matter of judging the length from the float to the leader depending upon flow, the general rule of thumb is 1.5 x the depth of the water, but you kind of have to observe and experiment with the depth. You can also use a split shot above the first fly. I'm moving shallow water, it's ok for the split shot or point fly to tick and bounce along the bottom as it drifts

In these small clear waters, I'd use 6 or 7x flouro leader and tippet, along with the smallest indictor possible, like one of those small foam pinch on indicators. Small bugs size 18, 20 or 22, and probably the most important thing, a drag free drift through the hole, which can be hard in tight quarters.

Just added total cfs and spillway release cfs to the sms text utility. text gen table to 913-270-0360 here's a link for more info https://keyholelabs.com/convo/cfswater Hope folks find it useful.

Nice, you throwing floating line with leader to the Crackleback? Apply any weight or use sinking leaders/line?
-
I created a free sms "text" app that reports USGS and Core gauge and generation values for the White River system. just text g table to get this number. 913-270-0360. if you text just g you will get a list of all the sources. also gives you quick links to the sites. This eliminates having to install an app. Here's a link for more info. https://keyholelabs.com/convo/cfswater I fish Taney and the White a bunch, makes is quick and easy to find out current generation and schedule, especially while n the water.

Added newport gauge to our SMS texting app. text "g whitenewport" to 913-270-0360 to get current cfs and gauge height It uses USGS api feed. Here's a link for more info... https://keyholelabs.com/convo/cfswater

Thanks for posts, Got a reader request, Love to hear what happens if you threw a mouse pattern tonight on a fly rod

That is a super cool video! Thanks for sharing !

Here's my 2 cents, elk hair caddis represents the profile of an adult caddis, you where probably correct in the hatch you experienced where mayflies, so maybe an adams or other mayfly pattern size right may have done better. When there's a big hatch like that, it's even more important to get style and size right since fish are keyed in on lot's of available food. As opposed to when they are in reaction strike mode, like when they try to eat your indicator

Cool pattern thanks for sharing, So cool, I added it to the "cool patterns" fly box on https://flytyerworld.com

Love this guy's stuff, and so did Eric Clapton....

Just released the Android version of https://flytyerworld.com along with the Apple version. It has some fly boxes for the white river system folks might find interesting. Visit https://flytyerworld.com to for links to the app stores. If you have any ideas for patterns of fly boxes, let me know be happy to add.

I always extend my leaders with tippet. I typically fish fluoro tippet, sinks a bit better and harder to see, but mono works just fine. Extends life of your leader, and provides a handy stop knot to keep split shot from sliding down to your bug(s). I fish Taney a bunch, so this year I've been having to extend my leaders a bunch to fish with the generation patterns. I typically buy Rio or Orvis tippet spools. but I'm sure any kind of flouro would work as long lb's strength matches, (i.e. 6x, 5x, etc)

I played in a rock band in college in the 80's, had a sweet 1970's Gibson LS6, needed some money for a girl, pawned in Joplin back then, huge mistake, don't part with your guitars

Thanks for sharing info, and the breakdown of how you got on the fish. -
It's been a couple 3 years, but fished the run down down from the bridge next to the fish runs and had good luck. this exact pattern and color, but size 16, picture is a size 12.

This is true... 😀

It's a trolling motor issue. I can pull out and bring it someplace, but was hoping for a quicker approach, willing to pay a bit more for the convenience. thanks for the response.

I keep my boat on Taney. Are there any boat mechanics that offer a mobile service? Come to my dock perform maintenance or a fix an issue?

I fly fish Taney a bunch. With heavy flow, dead drifting a megaworm (mop chenille) on a jig hook can produce well in various colors, white, pink, salmon. Here's a link to some Taney patterns. https://flytyerworld.com/#/FlyboxTiles/5cbe1f011856f6e6000f6835

So, here's a pin to the location where you can park, walk down to creek.. fish up and down the creek, they are very spooky, recommend going down stream a ways, there's a trail and fish holes and riffles.. small midges (i.e. blood midge. zebra, etc.) with 6x tippet. This is the only place I've fished, someone else might have other locations. https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2%B055'29.3%22N+93%C2%B035'17.0%22W/@36.924816,-93.590244,628m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x87cf38082fab5c4d:0x79d0c3c641acf8c1!2sCrane,+MO+65633!3b1!8m2!3d36.9053361!4d-93.5715838!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d36.9248158!4d-93.58805

Another warm water species you can target on the fly and the region are Wipers (Hybrids between white bass and stripers) . They are pelagic so they move around the reservoirs, but lots of KS/Mo reservoirs stock them (Truman, Clinton, Northfork, ect.). They travel in schools and even though they can't reproduce they still have spawning behavior so in the spring you often find them in abundance off of dams that you can fish with a fly rod. When you get on them it's a blast, and they put up an awesome fight. In my opinion very much like some saltwater species. I fish for them with a 8wt. (6 or 7 will do) and sinking line or leader. Clousers or anything representing a shad. Of course a boat with electronics works the best, otherwise follow the birds or busting shad. They will mix white bass, and they can get very big quick, love catching them.
