This is what happens out at our place when you mess with our chickens 😉 The rest would have been too small to make a hat 😅
-
That's why I am so popular to fish with😅.

How about the goldfish? Do they hit that same bait? I don't see any grass carp spots here in MD, but have found those goldfish. Some are large enough to take a decent sized fly. They were spooky.
-
Congrats Dave! Are you catching them all on the same style fly?

You are able to tell the gender of an ant by putting it in a glass of water. If it sinks. Girl ant. If it floats bouyant.😅

A woman and her husband interrupted their vacation to go to the dentist. "I want a tooth pulled and I don't want novacaine because I am in a big hurry," says the woman. "Just extract the tooth as quickly as possible, and we'll be on our way!". The dentist was quite impressed. "You're certainly a courageous woman."" Which tooth is it?" The woman turned to her husband and said, "Show him your tooth, dear!"🤣

Trip report Driftless and more!
Johnsfolly replied to BilletHead's topic in U.S.A. - North & East Regions
@BilletHead Great report! So glad to see you and Pat out on the road again! -
Even had some madtom action when it clouded up. Livie #86 (L) Margined Madtom, Notorus insignis never would settle long enough for a full body photo, but you can see the dark edges on dorsal fin and tail fin.

Dave I have fished each a couple of times. I would be inclined to answer that they are better float streams. You can wade some spots more so the Niangua on the sections around Barclay or Bennetts. However those sections are well above where Wrench is talking about.

Unlike in MD streams we found lots of darters in these pools. They appeared to be all of the same species. Livie #85 (L) Fantail Darter, Etheostoma flabellare Even dad caught one 😉 (#104)

Able to get to some new water or really just a bunch of clear pools in a vanishing stream in VA. Was targetting some montane species. Livie caught the only targetted species of the trip. We really tried to find more amongst the high number of eastern blacknose dace. I did not expect that much competition 😒. Livie #84 (Lifer) Mountain Redbelly Dace, Chrosomas oreas

I'm sure they have this written somewhere: What does Captain Kirk and toilet paper have in common? They both search Uranus for Klingons.🤣

Just got back from a trip to VA and Livie harvested her best cantaloupe to date. Sure beats the baseball sized ones from last year. We'll see what they taste like.

@Mitch f posted about stopping there. I've been by there a couple of times but never stopped.

Petition for single point hooks in trophy section
Johnsfolly replied to Smallie Seeker's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Have literally caught 100s of browns on a F9 or F11 floating Rapala over the years. -
You have those guys figured out for sure Dave! 53... WOW! I haven't caught one🙄. I hope that I can get out your way and get a tutorial.

If I ever used corn for trout it had to have been a long time ago. Also no cheese or Vienna sausages either. Soaked a bunch of redworms or drifted minnows when I used live bait for them. Used a lot of powerbait and salmon eggs during the urban catch and keep seasons. Have been using corn for carp and buffalo lately. -
One of my favorites. We have been on the go a lot. So not many meals at home😒
-
Probably had to take a bath🤣

Wonder where you got that intel😉

We use peanut butter and probably have a 50 to 60% catch rate. That goes up when we have the trap set in a pathway or have items to funnel them into the trap. "..have the trap set in a pathway or have items to funnel them into the trap." Worked for raccoons and cats as well.

I caught one in Kansas and those that we caught in AR. She fished with me in KS and in Mingo, but no other spots in MO. I don't have any catch records of a creek chub for her, but may have overlooked it. I didn't have it on her annual fish list until yesterday.

What a monster. These guys just love our lakes and rivers 😒. Shoot em all! att Neuling of Perryville shot a monstrous 125-pound, 5-ounce fish at Perry Lake. Perry County bowfisherman catches world record sized bighead carp Matt Neuling of Perryville shot a monstrous 125-pound, 5-ounce fish at Perry Lake. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) confirms Matt Neuling of Perryville is the latest state record holder under alternative methods after shooting a colossal 125-pound, 5-ounce bighead carp. Neuling was bowfishing with a friend July 24 when shot the mammoth at Lake Perry. “I was out with my buddy early that morning when we both shot what we thought was a 30-pound grass carp,” Neuling recalled. “My buddy’s arrow pulled out, but mine shot straight through and stayed in there.” Neuling said his friend was eventually able to shoot another arrow into the fish, but they were shocked at just how massive their fish turned out to be. “We just couldn’t believe it,” he said. “We knew what type of fish it was, but we had never seen one that size. This thing is a straight up monster. A five-gallon bucket could easily fit in its mouth. If my buddy wasn’t with me, there was no way I could have pulled it out of the water.” The carp was weighed on a certified scale in Perry County. It’s the eighth state record fish recorded in 2021. This catch also beats the existing bowfishing world record of 104-pounds, 15-ounces. “It’s just crazy,” laughed Neuling. “You know, I set that goal of breaking a record every time I go out to fish, but I never would have thought I’d be breaking a record with this fish.” MDC Fisheries staff took the head of the fish in an effort to age it, while Neuling used other parts of the fish for catfish bait. “When fish get this size, we estimate it to be at least 10-years-old,” said MDC Fisheries Program Specialist Andrew Branson. “Bighead carp are an invasive fish from Asia. This particular fish is an example of just how well an invasive species can thrive if given the opportunity. We encourage people to harvest these fish to help remove them from our waters.” Missouri state record fish are recognized in two categories: pole-and-line and alternative methods. Alternative methods include: throwlines, limb lines, bank lines, jug lines, spearfishing, snagging, snaring, gigging, grabbing, archery, and atlatl.
