Sounds like a great time. Ham - congrats on the large rainbow. I hear so much about the White, I really have to get down that way to fish. Sounds like I went down there it could be creating a potential addiction.

Duane... you weren't supposed to do that!

I can't wait to get back down to Taneycomo. Your one cast videos certainly feeds the fire. -

Awesome bass! Congrats! -
I could tell if the Osage in general or the Osage/Tavern creek confluence would be considered an Ozark water on this forum. Anyway I got down to fish that area yesterday hoping for a redhorse sucker or two and maybe a spotted bass to add to my 2015 species caught listing. My buddy and I started fishing the Tavern just above the bridge above the confluence. We were bottom fishing using nightcrawlers. We both caught freshwater drum. I had never caught a freshwater drum. So the day was already a sucess for me. After the bite died under the bridge, we drifted down to the mouth of the creek. Noone was having much luck on redhorse from the bank or by boat. A couple of spotted bass were caught and I caught a few the worms off of the bottom. The largest that I boated was just under 11". Not a monster, but I nice healthy fish. Since I hadn't caught a spotted bass yet this year, they were added to my species tally. We moved into the Osage downstream of the confluence and really never got a good bite for several hours. We pulle anchor and headed upstream above the Tavern. I threw my bait into a current seam and hooked into a good fish. My buddy got a phone call as I was bringing the fish to the boat for him to net. This redhorse measured 22.25" and weighted about 4-4.5 lbs. Even though it was a pretty slow day fro numbers of fish. I was glad to be out on the water and tallied three more fish to my list.

Fished crane for the first time yesterday
Johnsfolly replied to Trout Predator's topic in Crane Creek
It took me two trips to Crane to catch my first rainbow. Glad you were able to cath fish. That is a gem of a stream. -
I use the USGS site all of the time. Living in Columbia and being a wade fisherman makes it imperative to check water levels and flow before committing to a 3 to 5 hour round trip to fish a blown out stream. I found that out when I went down to the Current and it was flowing high and looked like chocolate milk. That was the only trip that I had been skunked on trout in that river.

What an awesome fish! I'm still working on catching one over 6 lbs let alone a 30+ lb brown trout.

Brandon, I have only fished this creek once. I caught a 14" rainbow on a white 1/32 oz marabou jig. So I can't say what will work consistently in that creek.

Thanks for the information. I'll let you know how I do the next time we are down that way.

I really like these pictures. I may have to convince my wife that a trip to Springfield/Branson is needed around that time. -
Nice trout!

There is nothing like seeing a kid's face light up when they catch a fish. Great catch Ivey. Sound like a great day as well.

Oneshot - what have you been using for goggle eyes in that area? Worms? Plastics? When I'm in the park often my daughter wants to fish for something else and would like to learn more about the Niangua fishing. Thanks John

March 8th 2015 Report-19.5" Caught (Pics)

Awesome Crane creek McCloud rainbow! -
I am targetting a total of 8 new species this year and a total over 30 species. So far I have only been out once and have just two species, rainbow trout and banded sculpin. My daughter and I were at Bennett's Spring trout park and she preferes to catch the sculpin. so we had the biggest and smallest contest. I had the smallest at 2.6" She had the largest.

Ham - How is the species list going this year? I bought a number of #18 and #20 midge to try to catch more minnow species. Interested in a smallest fish contest?

I can't recommned any better spots in Missouri than those that have been suggested already. I can't imagine going anywhere without some lures, especially without some 1/8, 1/16, or 1/32 oz marabou jigs. Good luck and enjoy the trip. Post those catch pictures.

Looks like the perfect cure for your cabin fever. Great looking fish on the blog.

I hope that she continues to like fishing. My two other kids just don't like it as much and we don't get out as much as I would like.

Nice fish. congrats on a good day on the water.

Fishing report - March 11th - A first for me!
Johnsfolly replied to Wornica's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Sounds like a good time. We were down on the 9th and had a great time as well. -
I had to work on my B-day last Sunday, but was able to get down to Bennett Springs on Monday the 9th with my yougnest daughter. We started fishing above upstream of the whistle bridge. We didn't see a lot of fish there and the fishing started slow. My daughter did catch her largest rainbow trout to date on a glo ball in light pink/yellow/white combination. The fish was 14.25" and weighed 1.25lb. We probably caught 9 fish total before moving upstream where we fished the pool above the rock dam. My daughter wanted to catch her limit, because then I would let her fish for the "bottom dwellers", i.e., banded sculpin. There were a lot more fish above the dam and we fished schools near the bank and off of the handicap pier. Once on the pier, she kept two more trout and with three on the stringer I gave in and let her fish for sculpin. It was on between her and I as to whom could catch the smallest and largest sculpin. I was still pretty focused on trout fishing and caught and released several more fish mostly on 1/32 and 1/64 oz marabou jigs in various colors. I missed an opportunity to hook a 3-4 lb rainbow when it had my jig in its mouth, but spit it out just as I was setting the hook. My daughter caught the largest sculpin on the same glo ball she caught her big trout. I caught the smallest, 2.6" on a John Deere microjig. Here is the whopper. In 2015, I want to catch a bunch of new species and so I bought a number of #18 and #20 flies to be able to go after several minnow species. I put on a #20 olive zebra midge and was fishing for sculpin in the deep pool below the rock dam and told my daughter that you can catch big trout with this tiny lure. As if on cue, I caught a 12" rainbow on the midge. By the end of the day, my daughter did catch a total of 7 trout and we kept four of her fish that were all over 12" and nine sculpin. I ended up with 23 trout and four sculpin. A pretty good day.

My friend ties a black bug similar to your ant with rubber legs that you cannot keep in the water too long before getting hit. In the lakes we fish, the bass hit them as well as the bluegill.
