I used to love my job. That was when I felt that as a team we were working towards a goal to build our business. I enjoyed making the impossible - possible. Often that required 60+ hours per week. I've had projects that I have committed to that have required several weeks at 100+ hours per week. I have always felt that I worked for my clients and not my company. Figuring that if I keep them happy that additional work would come our way. That has taken it's toll on me over the last 30 yrs. Over the last 5 yrs, I cannot get my staff on board with those thought processes and now I really want out of the grind. I don't have the energy to go back to putting in 60+ hours a week anymore, which I feel is needed to get the lab working efficiently. Being a greeter at Bass Pro Shops is looking good to me even with the huge pay cut required.

Congrats on trying out an underutilized species. I have not eaten freshwater drum, but eat the salty drum species and like those guys. I know that larger black drum due get wormy. Not sure if that is the same with freshwater drum. Just something to consider on those bigger guys. Keep catching them and enjoy them with your family!

This post is all about my Betterhalf. If you want a super flavorful and simple "Alfredo sauce" she has one perfected😁. This was a shrimp "Alfredo". She cooks diced onions in a tablespoon of butter until translucent (could substitute shallots or add some minced garlic). Then she adds in the shrimp and cooks until they a close to done. Here's the best part, she adds in an entire round of Boursin garlic and fine herbs cheese spread. Once melted she will thin with some heavy cream (could add white wine when cooking the shrimp). Continues cooking and once at consistency she wants adds in the pasta, mixes, and serves. Couldn't be any easier. No grainy parmesan to deal with. Maybe not a traditional "Alfredo" but works for us 👍

They look even more strange when they "walk" along the bottom.

That Dutch oven and lid looks great. I have a Wagner ware 8 chicken fryer but no lid. That glass lid is pretty cool. I'd like one of your Griswold #6 skillets. I'll text you to figure out how to get the exchange to happen.

Can't believe that it took this long for you to land a common carp. Congrats!

Jealous of that guy. Congrats!

Is that to keep them from marrying outside of their own families? "If she ain't good enough for her own family she ain't good enough for ours 🤣!"

I know how much you love getting them in the E tank and didn't think there would be any cruddy ones but had to ask 😁

Sounds like a decent day with nothing to complain about! Keep putting her on fish and netting them up.

Marty could you post a photo of a #6 and #8 for size comparison? I don't think that I have seen a #6 and don't have a good feel for how different it would be. Do you have any that have not been refurbished?

I hope that you can get your boy a trout. I don't know what the conditions are like in that area. That is where you go and get the scoop from the Lilley's folks or the guy Phil suggested. I'll let you know what works for us when fishing for urban trout and I suspect will work there.. I'm assuming not much current in that area and think there would be similar conditions to those city lakes. I would suggest to use these bait techniques if you plan on keeping fish. It's too easy to gut hook the fish.We use #18 or #20 treble hooks. We would use #2 or #4 line. Add one or two BB sized split shot about 1/16 to 1/8 oz about 4 to 6 inches above the hook. Just enough distance so the bait is above the weeds. For powerdough bait, go with floating. Typically orange, yellow, pink all work well. You want to just cover the hook with a ball of doughbait. Doesn't need to be the size of a grape but more like one to two kernels of corn. Gulp eggs can be used as well with this set up. I like white and purple, orange, or yellow eggs. They compress well so put one on each hook. Cast out to any structure you can see. I like to keep the rod at a shallow angle or if on those docks lay it on the dock. If laying on the dock, don't lay the rod pointing towards the bait, but on an angle think of the rod tip at two o'clock. That position should help you detect light bites. This hook and sinker setup would work if using a float but move the sinkers closer to the hooks and use fewer gulp eggs or doughbait. If float fishing, redworms will work but will also get bit by any panfish around. Microjigs under a float should work as well. Usually if there is little water movement you would want to cast out and let the jig fall and sit, then reel in slightly, then stop and let it fall and sit..repeat. Mix up the speed of the retrieve or add more aggressive twitches until you find something that works. Maybe these techniques will work for you. Again talk to locals on what works in that area.
