  1. BH I think that it is great that you participate in this program! Seems like a really rewarding time. Thanks for doing what you do and then sharing that with us.
  2. Congrats on a great Bird! Myself and the rest of the Folly family are very proud you and of your accomplishment! I agree with my betterhalf that a glass of the Seven Deadly Zins may be deserved. Congrats again! John
  3. I agree! There are still many common species like rock bass, smallmouth bass, yellow bullhead, blue catfish, etc. that she hasn't caught yet this year. Just got to see how much more time we can get to go out together this year. She is talking about bringing my travel rod with her when she goes down to visit her Nana in Georgia this summer. That means she will likely need the camera as well.

    What's Cooking?

Having seen all of the original episodes of Star Trek, I love the William Shatner reference! He also over acted in the few Twilight Zone episodes that he starred in. I will state that like the commercial that it's not how fast you mow, but how well you mow fast. It's not the number of posts, but the number of likes per post that matters! You guys are pretty close in that area as well. I will watch this battle ensue. Good luck to you both!
  5. BH If she can't get her password, PM Phil and he can reset it for her. He did that for me a while back. That's when my betterhalf signed up just to make that contact with Phil to get me straightened out. I can't wait to hear her story!
  6. They may have been "fanning" which is where your use a strutting half decoy/fan held in front of you and you crawl out into the flock of turkeys to get a closer shot. This is a pretty effective technique, but one that is extremely dangerous if you do not know what all of the hunters in the area are doing or are aware of what you are trying to do.
  7. I am most interested in the Pens - Caps series. The Blues and Predators are creating a nice rivalry. That can be an exciting series as well. I expect at least one the series to go seven games, Just don't know which it might be, possibly the Blues/Predators. The opening round was great. Looking forward to the next round to be just as exciting.
  8. My daughter set a total number of different species goal at 15 fish species for 2017. As you may have seen from my posts, Livie has picked up a renewed interest in getting out with her dad to get on a variety of fish. We have been mostly fishing local ponds and creeks. Catching some small fish and trying for some that are not so small. So this Sunday we got out to fish local and started for some hybrid sunfish in the pond at my work. On her first cast Livie floated a small jig under a float and landed her first ever hybrid sunfish. (yeah she is also rocking her new fishing sunglasses) Knowing that there are channel catfish and largemouth bass, I started the day with a 1/8 oz PBJ Ned rig and got a channel catfish. Since she hasn't caught a channel yet, Livie switched to the Ned rig, but after a few casts, just wasn't getting bit. So we moved to another section of the pond and I rigged up a slip sinker rig with a bait hook threaded with a couple of red worms. Didn't take too long before Livie's rod was bouncing and she landed her first channel catfish of the year. I know that one of the creeks on this property has a variety of minnows including topminnows. So after several more bluegill on the small jigs and a largemouth on the Ned, we headed to the creek. We saw a couple of different groups of the topminnows and I tried a #14 hook that was just too big. I then switched to a #26 tanago hook and tiny piece of redworm and caught one as soon as I got the bait in the water. I handed the rod to Livie and she caught her first ever blackstripe topminnow using a hook and line. She did catch one in Feb 2016 with her bare hands while we were darter fishing. This was her 15th species for the year! She had met her 2017-2018 species goal by April 23rd. So far this year she has matched me species for species, except I have a redear sunfish here in MO and four Maryland species that she is unlikely to catch this year, but you never know. Once I updated our fishing records, it was interesting to me that I had caught my first blackstripe topminnow (my 100th life list species) exactly one year ago using the same setup. Now she has her sights on catching five more species this year to get to twenty total. That make her multispecies fishing dad very happy. Last evening we fished a lake that I knew held some crappie, but one that neither of us had ever fished before. I was trying to work on one of my season's goal of catching crappie in a variety of new lakes. Fishing was really slow, but we finally ended up with a couple of nice black crappie using the small jigs and floats that have worked great all this year. Having a great time so far.
  9. BH Great looking bass! Bellies look like they have not yet spawned. My daughter would love to fight some like those hawgs!
  10. I still have not been out on my own yet this season. Seems a repeat of last couple of years. Not enough time to make serious commitment to turkeys. Still can't imagine a better hunt than this season's youth hunt. may try to get out later this week and weekend. Or just fish!
  11. Seth Nice bird! Good luck on your second!

Mallard served with Michael David seven deadly Zins. Sounds like Scott Leysath and the Sporting chef team was over in Billetheadville. Did Buddy T show up as well ?
  13. Glad to see the Blues get the OT win. They left the first period with a two to one goal lead and then got that third goal in the third. Seemed like they had the game in hand then let the Wild back into the game. Now they face Nashville. Should be a good series I don't see it going 4-0 or 4-1 for either team. I suspect that this series is likely to go 7 games. Looking forward to it.
  14. QB Your Bruins kept me up late last night. They were the more aggressive team in overtime than Ottawa. A couple of calls could have gone Boston's way and ended the game earlier.
  15. Who would have thought that Chicago would be held to only three goals and get swept by the Predators. Wow did not see that coming. Nashville moves on to round 2. Ducks also sweep their series over Calgary. My Pens win with a great tight angle shot by Crosby and a no-look back hand goal by Wilson. Thanks to 49 saves by Marc Andre Fleury they await to see who comes out of the Caps and Leafs series. Rangers-Habs go to over time and the Rangers win in OT and are up 3-2. We'll see if the Blues can rebound and close out their series on Sat. Gotta love playoff hockey!
  16. Very sorry to hear about your loss.
  17. Very nice video Drew! I would love to catch a redfish. The way things look for me is that I will be more likely to catch a striper off of the east coast than a redfish in the gulf. Keep posting your videos, they are becoming bucket list items in my future (e.g., redfish, redfish or grass carp with a fly, gar in the bayou, etc.)
  18. BH Tell the Mrs. congrats from the Folly family on a great bird! Hopefully she tips her guide well!
  19. I hope that the Leafs can go the distance. Definitely the longest running series thus far in the playoffs. May be a pyrrhic victory for either team since they may be exhausted if they keep heading to overtime every game.
  20. There have been 9 OT games and now four teams including the Blackhawks facing elimination in the next game. Wow! Never would have predicted this type of playoffs. Can't wait to see what happens tonight!
  21. Great looking bird. Congrats BH! You should stop shooting them in the garden. Messes up the mulch .
  22. Haven't heard much about the what everyone thinks about this year's playoffs. So I started this thread to see what guys are thinking about this year. Do you think that the Blues will go farther this year? Will the Capitals not advance again after securing the best record in the league? Do you like the playoff format where the 2 and 3rd teams in each division play each other instead of reseeding the teams with the best records once they make it into the tournament? I have been pretty happy with the play in the couple of games that I was able to watch so far. I am really surprised by the Predators/Blackhawks series. Would love to continue to see if Babcock can get his team into the second round. He has always been a strong playoff coach in my opinion. St Louis looks strong so far. I always love the first series in the playoffs since there are so many games going on. I will say that this is how I feel so far for my team, especially after their comeback win last night in overtime.
  23. We have two at our house and I have toyed with the idea of setting up a large (>150 gal) reservoir in our garage. That way we would be able to store more than 100 gallons of rainwater for when the rains don't come. We do water the plants from the rainbarrels as well as watering our chickens.

    What's Cooking?

Tonight I made a spaghetti sauce by sautéing diced onions and minced garlic in olive oil. Once the onions are translucent, I added oregano and sweet basil. Once the spices were cooking I then added a can of fire roasted diced tomatoes and a can of tomato sauce and some red wine. I let the sauce cook a bit on medium low temp to meld the flavors. I cooked some prepared fresh stuffed pasta, mixed four cheese tortellini and sweet Italian ravioli. Once cooked I put the pasta mix in a bowl, added sauce parmesan and mozzarella cheese and put the whole thing into the oven to bake and melt the cheese. While the pasta was cooking, I sliced some of our morels and sauted them in a little olive oil and butter with minced garlic and dried tarragon, S&P.

    What's Cooking?

Last night my betterhalf made one of my daughter's favorites, corned beef on the grill, for her 13th bday. She actually braises the meat with carrots and onions along with the corned beef spice. All of this is wrapped in foil and cooked over medium heat. She will crack the foil near the end of the cooking to get a little smoke flavor to the meat. Also wrapped cut potatoes seasoned with oregano, pink salt, and smoked paprika in foil and thrown on the grill as well. Unfortunately this site now restricts the photo size to 2 MB and all my phone pictures are greater than 2.5 MB. So no picture. My betterhalf also made a smores cheesecake with a milk chocolate and hot fudge layer and topped with marshmallow fluff.
