Growing up, my home water was the Red River coming out of LakeTexoma. Grew up on that lake, and spent lots of time on the river catching stripers in the mid 20lb class.
Living here now, my home water, or the one i have fished the most the past 20+ years, and enjoy the most is Pomme, and its tributaries. Lots of memories in Texas and on Pomme.
One of those memories was when my son was 15. A group of he and a few buddies took off about 2 hours before dark to float a section of the Pomme river we had done to many times to count over the years. When i left for work around 6pm, they called and were putting in their yaks. Around 11:30 i received a call from my wife saying the boys haven’t been seen or heard from since 8pm. One of the boys lived close to the take out spot, which is where they were staying the night. After those parents contacted my wife looking for the boys, they realized they were not at either house.
I remember driving that patrol car like i was Earnhardt Jr. to where the parents, along with water patrol and conservation were staged. When i arrived water patrol had located them stranded on a sand bar about a mile up stream with their boat. They said it got dark on them, and they couldn’t see with the clouds and no moon.
Good memories.
