Taking a future son in law fishing. 🤷♂️
JestersHK replied to LittleRedFisherman's topic in Smallmouth Talk
Nice buddy! And at least it worked out for the young man and was not a one way fishing trip lol. Did you have the chain and cinder blocks in the boat just in case haha. -
So back home already... Had dinner plans this evening and knew it was a short trip but man never enough hours to spend at Taney... Fishing was just ok for me in the 12 hours we were there. Not bad not great just average with average fish with an average catch rate during the night hours. Kev had better luck and caught some really solid bows. His luck continued into the morning as well... Got to stop in and chat with Phil and his crew so that's always a bonus for me. Hope you guys survived what shared to be a busy day and every parking spot was full there. Thanks again Duane 😉 Once the sun was fully up the jerk bait and jig bite died off. I did actually catch a trip during daylight hours while wading... I then got the fly rods out and we fished the seems down past the last outlet and cable by the grass flats. I immediately hooked a rainbow while showing Kevin the ropes on how to drift his head head midge and scud combo under a float. It wasn't but a few drifts later for him and he hooked a beautiful bow which is his first trout on a fly rod. Overall had a great time. Looking forward to sleeping though... Getting old makes these fun times harder and harder to do lol Here's a few pics. I reminded Kev to smile this time lol. I also attribute his success to wearing my patented red hoodie...

Kev caught all his on the jerk bait. All mine came on a sculpin 3/32 jig n orange head. Got a bit chilly and we're fighting the ice. Taking a break to thaw out. We had one fish at 18in male that's been the best so far. Kev has 4 or 5 and I'm at 9 or 10... We're working for them tonight for sure. All of his have been solid chunky bows with good shoulders on them. I'm hitting more dinks on the jig.

I got a wild hair up my butt at work today and decided I'm going to do a turn and burn trip. Leaving here in a minute to come down and fish through tonight into the awesome weather expected tomorrow. I'll try to keep some pics coming in tonight. Hope I can get into some nice ones. If anyone happens to be down and wants to come fish just shoot me a pm and I'll send ya my number.

Eric looks like you'll have beautiful weather this weekend... Wish it was in the cards for me but hopefully next trip. I like you need to get it if this work mess and into or on the water for sure. We need pics and a full trip report buddy!

Lake Taneycomo fishing report, February 25
JestersHK replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Thanks for the report. Fingers crossed that it TR goes before 915 we might see some night time with the water off. I'm itching to get out there again at night with water off... Been way too long since we've been able to do that. -
Sounds like a good numbers trip Ryan with some nice kicker fish too! I find myself only getting the long rod out under the right conditions. I do love fishing fly rods in the dark, but I'm usually jerk bait slinging for the big bite... I know it can come on the fly rod too, but I fall into that comfort zone. Ironically my PB rainbows have all come on the fly rod though. First one was at night followed by the second one which is my PB during the day... Fishing a big foam beetle on top with the water off was one of my favorite nights down there... They were busting top water all night and forced me to join the fun...

That's a giant for that little section of steam. Congrats on a beautiful fish. Love those fins.

Good luck you guys! 6200k is a great flow. Good luck to your boat partner Seth and tell him congrats on his soon to be caught 20in Brown lol.
-
Good luck buddy! Wife's bday that weekend or I'd be there. Trying for some of the other dates for sure and hope we can get our schedules synced up.

Be weary hanging out with that crew Ryan lol

Hahahaha none taken. This was more just an experiment for me, and a fun night out with the family. I don't consider myself to have the artistic gene at all lol. Al has more talent in his pinky than I'll likely ever possess. I tried to stay true to the fish though. I learned a bunch on this one too though. Needed about 3 more hours to do it the way I wanted to, but kids were all done waiting on me to finish after 2.5 hours painting a plate with a fish 😄 I bought 3 more plates to paint and make a set out of them. Hopefully I can improve my craft in due time.

So a week or so ago we took my little one to a pottery place to paint some ceramics for her birthday. Since I'm a little ate up with chasing trout I grabbed a plate and started painting a fish... I'm a novice for sure, and painting in layers with glaze was a bit challenging, but I used our little Colorado cutts as a guide and used Duane's method he uses to paint his jerks to come up with a rendition that I can now eat my fish off of lol

Yeah with the amount of water still left to move through the system, plus the continuing rain and snow I have a feeling it's gonna push us right into the wet rainy season of March through May. Although I was only partly joking about water finally being off in July it wouldn't surprise me one bit of that was the case. Tough year ahead for us guys who like to wade fish, but as you said above we'll just have to adapt and overcome by boat! Hey you should try to make it down for CAM this year too and fish with us!
-
Nice fish! Even better that's a big ol Walter!
-
Congrats on catching. Glad you were able to find some success.

Sounds like a great weekend with fantastic company. Duane's baits always produce for me even when things slow down. He's got the hatch matched on his jerks for sure. I'm jonesing real bad for some wade fishing down there... I need a night time wade hunt for brownies like you wouldn't believe. Maybe by July they will shut this water off lol.
-
With this flow you're going to pretty much be bank fishing. Agree with Duane, start up by cable and work your way down fishing the seam. Jerk baits would be my lure of choice, although my last couple of Walters down there have come on white jigs. Good luck!

I have spring and current but that's it. It's in my plans to hit all of those at some point. Been trying to get to crane for what seems like forever. Never enough time...

Nice John buddy!

Lilley's Lake Taneycomo Fishing Report, February 5
JestersHK replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Phil do you think with the constant generation that there might be a successful chance of a spawn this year? Seems like there should of been a few areas where the fish could of successfully reproduced. Might be wishful thinking on my part, but would be great to catch some full white tipped finned and parr marked fish later this year. -
C.A.M. Trout Benefit set for March 28th
JestersHK replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Can't wait! I'm working on scheduling time now, but should be able to make it, and I'm going to try and bring as many as I can down with me to fill out the ranks! For those of you on the fence this is a really fun tournament format. I'm not a big tournament kind of guy, but I wouldn't miss this one. It's for a great cause for some great people, and also promotes great fish health being immediate catch, measure, and release. Thanks for setting it up Phil. -
Got a link where we can find this?

Yeah Buddy you are a great fisherman, and a greater person. Just so everyone knows Seth had drug us all up and down the lake all day already and was dealing with the wind and dropping temps, but still went out for a bit with these guys before dinner to make their trip successful. Great job man, and nice of them to track you down too. Sharing our knowledge is what we're here for. Hopefully a few of those guys have the jig fishing seed now firmly planted because of you.
