  1. Was at Bennet on Tuesday. Water was murky and fast but fishable. Few fish being caught. Seen probably 20 water snakes. They were everywhere and wouldn't move even when you tapped them on the head! I got to wondering if all the snakes wasn't affecting the fish in a negative way? They might have been feeling like prey instead of predator with all the snakes in the water!
  2. Good to see other bp enthusiast! I've only shot the substitute powders but plan on getting some Goex next time I get to Bass pro or a gun show with some for sale.
  3. How many Blackpowder shooters do we have here? I really enjoy my muzzlestuffers almost as much as my conventional guns. Currently I own a Hopkins & Allen underhammer Buggy Rifle and a CVA 12ga muzzleloading shotgun. Looking to build an underhammer with a fast twist barrel this winter to shoot long distance. Anyone else here like muzzlestuffers?
  4. I do gunsmithing work here in my retail store. Of all the guns I get in probably 50% of them just need a good cleaning to get them to run again. CLEAN THEM GUNS!!!!!!! . . . .Ok, rant over.
  5. Honestly, this is going to be a very personal decision for you to make. I own and operate a gun shop and have people ask me which gun is best and I tell them the same thing. What I like or what all the others who have answered you post like really doesn't matter as long as YOU like what you purchase. My suggestion is to go to a place like Bass Pro shops, Academy, or a private gun dealership and handle as many different makes and models as you can. Also, I'm not sure of the name of the range, but I've been told there is a range in Ozark that you can rent guns to shoot which is a good way to make a decision as well. Revolvers are more reliable than semi autos, period. I know everyone says they don't have a problem with their semi shooting which I agree, most won't give you trouble. But, with the quality of all factory ammo these days it's real problematic when you pull the trigger and it goes click. Especially if in a real life/death situation. With a revolver with double action capability you simply pull the trigger again and you have a fresh round. With the semi you HAVE TO RACK THE SLIDE, which can be difficult if the threat is already on you and you are trying to fend them off with the non shooting hand. In the end, again, go somewhere where you can handle as many different makes and models as you can and then decide. Only you are going to know what you ultimately need. Good luck and let us know what you decide!
  6. Hey Phil, my boy manages an company that installs ADT systems. Not sure about outside camaras, but I have the system installed in my store with camara inside and really like it. I can get you in touch with him to see what he can offer your if you would like.
  7. I'm East of you about 60 miles in Mountain Grove if that isn't too far away for you.
  8. Was just there yesterday. Didn't catch anything and what fish I seen caught were on a variety of things. Crackle backs, San Juan worms, brown jigs were the talk of the day and what I saw fish being caught on. I had read this before going yesterday and tied up and fished a couple of black beetles. Couldn't even get them to turn and look at them. Bright colors seemed to be working best yesterday. Still had a fun trip even without catching anything. At least it got me out of the store for part of the day!
  9. It finished out just shy of 26". I like the EGW 20 moa bases for long range 700's.
  10. Thanks. Yes it's popular with the f class shooters. Low recoil but still flat shooting. I hope to start shooting in the 600 yard F class shoots at Big Piney range in Houston MO by mid summer. I may have too small of a contour on this barrel for that but we'll have to wait and see.
  11. Here is a project I just finished for myself. This is a Remington 700 I rebarreled to 6.5 creedmoor with a shilen barrel. I decided to try the new Dura Blue coating from Lauer Weaponry. It made a nice paint job but nothing like a real bluing like they claim. But, I kinda figured that to begin with. The stock is a Boyd's left hand stock, right hand action laminate. Bushnell 6x24 scope I had in the scope counter at the shop. The scope crapped the bed after five shots so it is getting sent back. I still have to either do a trigger job or get an aftermarket of some flavor, free float the barrel, and bed it. Right now I'm just going to concentrate on working up a load and breaking in the barrel. First 6 shots at a hundred yards tells me this should be a good shooter once I tweak it some more. The last 2 bullet hole were touching even with the scope having shot craps on me. Just thought I would share it here. I am a full time gun shop and do gunsmithing so it was kinda nice to actually work on a personal project for a change.
  12. Take a small piece of it and try dying in RIT dye just like you would for buck tails. Should work the same. Boil water, add dye, boil fur for a minute or so, take out and let air dry. Again, try a piece first to make sure before dying the whole thing.
  13. Nice cdh! I seen this over on the NuCanoe forum! Man, I hope you weren't out in the rain last night! My son's basement flooded in Springfield. Good luck with the bowfishing too! I think you'll find the Frontier to be a great kayak for bowfishing, I've had guys asking about them for gigging but they don't want to spend the money for a nucanoe!
  14. Good read! The thing that gets me the most are the guys that almost throw them back in like a baseball, SPLASH! Like chunkun a rock or something! Makes my skin crawl. That said, I feel like many times the fish dies anyway, no matter how hard we may try to keep it alive and well. Just go crappie fishing at night over a bed and do the best you can to turn the small fish back and see how many are floating by morning. When they are eating the hook and you can't do anything else but cut the line and turn it back there will be several floating by morning no matter how hard you try to properly return them. I wonder if they don't get the bends or something coming from down deep so quick and then the stress....
  15. I would be interested. I own a small shop in Mountain Grove, MO. selling fishing tackle, guns, custom jigs, etc. I also do gunsmithing. Don't know if the guns would be allowable on your site or not so I will leave that up to you if you want to contact me back. Thanks
