  1. Thanks STL I guess I missed that post. How's the fly line working out for you? Pete
  2. I threw away the magazine after I read it. Actually recycled it. They are taking donations for the project. I can't remember but it was something like a $1 donation per tag sold. Or you could donate $1000 and get a framed and signed duck stamp for 2012. They pretty much are moving the focus of the park away from true fishermen to visitors and lawn chair fishing. It seems that way to me. Pete
  3. I read a blurb about a planned 72 foot walkway and overlook at the spillway. Do I get to name that too? Pete
  4. Does anyone else no about your relationship with Chief? I mean besides the whole internet.... Break em out big man, I'd love to see em. Even if they are only bass. Pete
  5. Do you and Chief need some time alone???? I promise I won't be bored by some Gascon fish porn. Pete
  6. Oh!! I've fished the Niangua at night at the canoe access with decent results on browns. About 20 years ago. SIO3
  7. I've had about equal success in full moon or otherwise. My favorite is a rainy night though. I have a lot of old photos of big fish while I have rain gear on. Some photos look like they were taken at night but it was really just a rainy day in the winter. A few very prominent guides used to spotlight them while the angler fished for them on the Little Red years ago. People say fish are afraid of the light but I've seen some very large browns take a bugger under a spotlight. Of course now you can't fish the spawn at night at Cow Shoals anymore. I think. Pete
  8. Thanks guys. I can't wait for next weekend. Pete
  9. We went. My dad was honored as a Fly Fishing Legend for hte FFF and put on the Legends Banner. They will have his bibliography and picture at all future events. He was the second Ozark Fly fishers President. He served 3 seperate terms as President of OFF. He was a Southern Area Council President and National Federation Treasurer for over 25 years. My brother and I hopped around and fished several places on the White with 2 units running all the time for 3 days. Very dissapointing water generation but we caught lots of fish up to a fat 17" brown my brother caught. I won the distance competion at the casting games. Anyone is welcome to come and hold the trophy if they like. Nothing better than winning that against my brother on the weekend my dad gets honored. Dave Whitlock signed my shirt and we spent some time reminiscing with him. Very nice weekend. Headed back to Mountain Home next weekend for our annual trip to fish and camp with the boys. Pete
  10. Good luck Leonard I'd lay odds your flies are bigger than most of the fish there. SIO3
  11. Pete's Lawn Chair Snaggin Hole??? Sir that's my bright green fly line your walking on. Honey I told them dxxx kids to use jigs, they snag em better than brassies. And they're cheaper. Pete
  12. Went down Saturday and Sunday and boy was it disappointing. Extremely small fish, thousands of them. You could catch them on anything. They aren't old enough to be wary. We caught em from 4 inches to 11 inches. It was packed. I want to rename Pete's Blue Pipe Hole. "Sit in my lawn chair, snag fish and yell at my kids hole" I know it's long and it doesn't flow well but that's what it's turned into. At the end of the day we found soft plastic worms on the bank there. Boy did they ruin a good spot. At one time there were 19 people crowded around it. A big fight at a wedding at the shelter by the guage house. Now that was pleasant. Speeding cars and trucks leaving the shelter after fight and almost killing people around the spring hole. That was pleasant. Some big mouth lady yelling at her kids at the "Sit in my lawn chair, snag fish and yell at my kids hole" Very pleasant. A real nice hatch of PMD's on Saturday. Weather was perfect. Company was good. Arkansas Friday to Sunday this week. Thursday to Sunday if my evil plan works out at work. Pete
  13. I enjoy your posts about the Gulf. We fish every time we go to Florida. Usually the Destin area. Keep it up. SIO3
  14. Rend lake in the spring. We had been hitting it week after week until it was ON. It took probably a month before we got it at the right time. Could've whacked on em conventional tackle but I held out to take em on the fly We need to get together for a trip. Pete
  15. Good to see you got out Smallie. Everything is going well my friend. No problem on the backing. I've caught more than my share of the best fish in fresh water (and salt) on a fly rod. I just don't have a boat. Pete
  16. Thank you Mike. That's what I've heard all year, we just can't make it all the way to a tailwater in a half day trip from St louis. SIO3
  17. You can get on fish from the parking lot upstream of the Landing buildings. We caught it one day with fish midging just downstream of the new bridge. Parked right next to the water and whacked em while people were parking and heading to the Landing. There is a shoal right next to the parking lot. The fish were lined up in the riffle water behing it. SIO3
  18. Now that's what I'm talkin about!!!!!!!!! Good going guys. Chuck is a very nice guy in addition to his guiding ability. Me and my brother are heading to Bennett in the morning. I could only wish for something like that. SIO3
  19. Nice!!!! I love me some hybrids. I got braid and a seven foot heavy action rod. I also have a nine weight that puts the wuppin to those boys. Pete
  20. Thanks Phil I know it's normal and what is your thought about how far down lake do the 02 levels get better? It would seem that below the rebar chute o2 levels would go up with the aeration of the water there. Pete
  21. It's nice to see the water off but the O2 level dropped below 2 PPM. Not good. SIO3
  22. I think they use lighted bobbers. Oops, I mean "indicator". Pete
  23. The Cardiac access on the Meramec is named because my dad had a heart attack walking up that hill. It was back when it first opened and the guys from Ozark Flyfishers named it that and it stuck. My dad had one of the first open heart by pass surgeries in the st Louis area and lived 34 more years after that. Then he had his first stroke in my truck in Houston Mo while heading to the Conclave in '07. I didn't know it at the time and I got him to Mountain Home and he took a nap and felt fine. He passed on two years later. He was the treasurer of the Federation of Fly Fishers for many years along with many posts in Ozark FF. He wasn't an original member OFF but very close. He just loved fly fishing and took me all over the country to pursue it. In his house you had to fly fish, bird hunt and play golf. It's the same here at my house today. Although we don't duck hunt like I did when I was a kid Pete
  24. Hey Rick I'm heading to Arkansas for the Conclave in early October. They are honoring my dad who passed away in March of 09. I think it's some legends of fly fishing for Southern Council of the Federation of Flyfishers. I don't know all the details since they have been talking to my mom about it and she isn't sure either, She wants my brother and I down there with her to accept the award or whatever it is. Pete
  25. Thanks Phil What will the level be in the trophy area? 696 is quite a bit below normal pool??? 2-3 weeks??? What's your take on this? Pete
