A buddy told me that Dale Fulton passed away. What a great guy and friend. Hadn't seen him since he sold the shop. Rest in peace.

Took him two days to pack for a day trip to Bennett. Many times he would never fish. He would string up 6-7-8 rods and just cast them. That's where I developed my liking for fast action, tip flex rods. My mom had no idea how much stuff he had until he died. Took us two days to get it all out just to see what he had. Probably 10 high end fly rods still in the plastic in addition to all the other rods. What most people don't know, is that he really wasn't a good fly tier. But he had 4 shipping trunks of materials in a cedar lined closet in the basement.

Fly rod recommendations?

Yeah I should qualify my statement. I don’t know what they sell at cabelas but a high end 5 weight tip flex rod is a good all around stick on Taney. If looking at a low end rod they are too slow for me and I wouldn’t waste a penny on one. Better off buying an older sage XP or something with a faster action in a 5 weight than going to a 6 or 7 because it has a slow action. -

My daughters Barney rod caught em like crazy. Until I casted it out and set it down to do something. Wasn't fast enough to step on it when it flying into the water

I always used green giant canned corn. Chum in the morning and come back in the evening. Works like a charm. I used ultra light spinning rods with a split shot and a scud hook. That scud is offset and it hooks them really well. My kids have literally caught hundreds of carp that way. Well they did, now they're grown and gone.
