  1. They did change that, again. foam beetles sold in the park store are nothing but foam and rubber legs, not sure that I've ever seen a foam fly with herl or dubbing, but that doesn't matter because like the squirmy rubber both foam and rubber legs are "any other material" and that legally is that matters.
  2. Oh yes, standing up is absolutely necessary at least most of the time. There is also the ten thousand ways to get the line tangled on the boat, and paddle, and all the crap required for boat safety. Stripping basket required. I think there are reasons why boat anglers often hire "guides" to row and maintain the correct drift. I usually need two arms to handle the boat and always need both hands for fishing. One of my brothers used to be a guide on famous streams out west and he claims that all he knows about fishing is how to row.
  3. A canoe, pirogue , small jon, etc. opens up a lot of good wading water, if it's just used for transport past all the less likely water and anchored near the fun water. I never could enjoy fishing from a boat though and have no enthusiasm at all for kayaks. I used to paddle upcreek, stopping to fish until time or tiredness dictated going home then make a straight quick paddle back to the ride, or have Herself drop me up stream and work my way down to my waiting truck. That added work and time are things that I just don't relish as I age. Wish there were more walk-in accesses.
  4. I don't believe that at all. The ~2000A state park near me just removed the land from the tax roles and has not and probably never will add any tourist dollars to the local economy. Hyped with creek access and and to be developed as a camping area, since 1992 has been developed only as a very small parking lot and ~3 miles of trail through second growth woodlands away from the creek. That trail is the only permitted usage. The current plan for this "Park" is to never develop it further, that plan was changed by Parks employees for no reasons but their own. DNR is not bound to develop the park according to the projected plans, and until it is fully developed and operational it adds nothing to the local economy. It will however be budget allotment that Parks can use for whatever. And in some rural counties $4542 is a more significant sum than it would be in an urban county.

    Cowboy Boots

Having once been a working ranch hand I can tell you that if you spend 12 hours a day in the saddle there is no better footwear for that work. However the fashion boots from the "western store'' are not the real thing.

    Cowboy Boots

Pretty rare to see actual "cowboy" boots these days, with 16" tops and 3" heels. Not sure where one would buy them. But it was a tradition to wear them outside the trousers, so that you could reach the Bowie knife, and the hawgleg. And to keep the horses sweat from soaking the pants legs.

We've seen this before, and it doesn't say "Exactly where " the fish go. It does say that the fish don't go far for a couple months after release, taking up to 60 days to go 10-12Km. The significant conclusions being
  8. I didn't "pay attention" because I don't know where the research is, a movie is for entertainment only and not anything one should "pay attention" to. If I have trouble sleeping maybe. Not busy at all, but if I watch a movie I need popcorn and a pillow.
  9. The title says "5 years Research"; research almost always is documented and peer reviewed. When I opened the thread I see a link to a movie; movies are almost always written, rehearsed, filmed, cut and spliced crap from the imagination. It's like watching TV, meaningless unless it puts you to sleep. If research is/was/might someday be involved, I'd like to see it, not some sales slant or PR spin.

  11. Nigronia serricornis or Nigronia fasciatus ? Did you examine the antennae to determine if male or female? It is common, I think to call the larvae of Dobson flies and fish flies all hellgrammites. I also think the fish flies are more widespread than you think throughout the interior highlands, I believe I read some research about five species of them in the Ozark region. In this report N. serricornis is found on Little Piney Creek. https://midmissouri.tu.org/sites/default/files/Little Piney Report_062107-144dpi.pdf
  12. That sounds like what I was told a few years ago. (along with the motor at that time)
  13. Missing from all your posts Phil.
  14. All photos seem to disappear after a short time not sure if it's one day or three, but it's not long.
  15. I was told that both my canoe and the trolling motor had to be titled and registered if I did that. Even rigging a sail on my canoe would require registration because it's over 12'. I think it's a way to collect taxes.
  16. I don't know Bennett, but typically in high or discolored water I like a bigger fly and a darker fly. easier for the fish to hear it or see it. And it often needs to be heavy to reach the bottom before it's zipped away downstream.
  17. For 5-8wt floating fly line, I use Chameleon ~3'-5' of 25# or 20# + ~2'-3' of 8# ( 8# to facilitate breaking of tippet when hung up); On the rare occasion that I use a sinking line I use ~3' total leader. If hang ups requiring breaking of the tippet are not a problem of if working in lilies/weeds , then 6-7' of level 20# is fine. Although I use Chameleon almost always, the Berkley Big Game or similar works about as well. I prefer permanent knots like Albright, nail knot or fisherman's bend in all leader applications, but surgeon loops can be used for loop to loop. I think any set up that lets you deliver the fly is fine, bass are not especially shy.
  18. I still want to see the regulation that states that. I've given away fish to complete strangers and it never occurred to me to get their address so I could follow up. Probably better I just leave them on the bank then when they get hooked too deep or are too exhausted.
  19. Can you reference that? I thought gifted fish only stayed in your daily limit for the day caught, but I just looked and could not find any reg that mentioned it. I guess that applies to my question too?
  20. Random thought as he steers toward the rocks at speed. I don't even know any cops, I just can't imagine anyone in full control of their faculties not slowing/stopping when it looked plain that he was going ashore almost from the start of the clip. But, I'm not a boater either and that may be normal. Maybe it's standard for pros to ditch the navigation rules. 7AM is immaterial, it might be either the start of the party or just got home from the party. "It's five o'clock somewhere". "just another toke and I'll be fine" Or whatever. "fishing is his job", is that a job where they random test urine ?
  21. I laughed when I read that line in the article, but I guess he was being serious. Like, dude, not his fault someone put those rocks right in front of him. I also wondered about a sobriety test when watching the video, but surely no one would boat while impaired?
  22. Brown jersey gloves, buy them by the case and get the ambidextrous kind; cutting off a finger or few lets you pick your nose and such. Any other glove look for size 3xl or 4xl and if you get the fold back mitts with velcro be aware that wiping sweat off your forehead will remove all the skin.
  23. I found the giving wildlife away reg. and it says it stays in the giver's daily limit but goes into the receiver's possession limit. But, it doesn't specify that it applies to fish and for most other things fish are considered separate from wildlife, so it leaves a question in my mind. And it may well be that I just overlooked a fish regulation, dim eyes and fine print etc.
  24. Can you reference that? I thought gifted fish only stayed in your daily limit for the day caught, but I just looked and could not find any reg that mentioned it.
