National Weather Service (NOAA) produces a point forecast for any zipcode you want; comes in several versions but the one I like is a tabular forecast that shows updated predictions hour by hour for 48 hour spans, the wind is indicated by speed and direction. https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=37.21&lon=-93.29&unit=0&lg=english&FcstType=digital

Tried them and did not like. I use a double surgeon's knot for most, but many knots will work. I keep telling myself that I will learn the "Davy knot" but haven't yet. I really don't change flies all that often.

Saw him perform at a show in Springdale, Ar. about 30 years ago. Quite a guy to talk to and made casting look easy, but even after his demo and lecture my casting is still mediocre. Nice fly and story, Billethead. I hate wind, you are tougher than I to keep fishing in it.

Rogers Parks and Recreation Department; 479-631-3350 Ask at the park bait shop/boat rental. I don't recall any special fishing regs, but think only park boats are allowed. I used to fish it from the bank with regular fishing permit, but rules get changed so better check with the parks office.

Sounds like a great time to me. Those small streams, aka "brooks" are why they are called brook trout. I used to stand at the head of an over grown run and let the water carry (no cast) a nymph down/across and cause it to rise to the top occasionally by checking the line flow and gentle raise of the rod, brookies in New England would smash them just as the fly hit the surface. Thank you for the excellent report, and fwiw some of my my greatest fish were camera shy.

DIY Rod Rack for under Truck Topper - Welding Project

Do you have any problem with the rings wearing against the rods? Or the rods sagging between the hook and ring? Nice work and good presentation. Keep them up and out of the way. -
Fly shop lets you see before you buy, Tim's name is on some of my stuff. I don't care much for the stuff marked "woolly bugger", I usually have bought the "Extra Select" but have a pack or two of the "blood quill" that are long enough to be useful. It is all a by product of Thanksgiving dinner.

Ton of work in that picture. Yep, it does say using deer hunting methods in daylight only, I missed that part out of disinterest I guess, hunting coyotes has always seemed a waste to me; either of time that could be spent trapping or of fur not prime.

I don't recall any big name retailer of sporting goods that was not primarily a clothing store.

And the shotgun only part during deer season.

I doubt "recreational" hunting has any impact on coyote populations in Mo. The season has been open year round for as long as I can remember and we had a bounty in place for years. Yet we have more coyotes now than 30 or 50 years ago. Studies in other states show that annual removal of 70% of coyotes will result in no reduction in overall numbers, partly because the survivors are more successful at recruitment and partly because of migration from adjacent areas. I do remember that in the bounty years there were no German shepherds left in this county.

I thought we could always hunt them year round? This is from 2015; Coyote Taken With Hunting Permit Season: All year, except coyotes may not be hunted during daylight hours from April 1–19, 2015 .

Actually I find it encouraging in this day and age that some adults are accepting that the world is a dangerous place and are attempting to give children tools to deal with it. More could be done along those lines, imo. And recalling the cold war days with the eminent threat of mutual destruction and the duck and cover routines, I don't recall any of us being especially worried. I think knowing the danger was simply that, knowledge that danger exists. For the rest of my comments I feel like I should apologize, not sure why, but obviously some are offended, the responses and remarks have been enlightening. Carry on.

Winona man gigs state record northern hog sucker

yep and how many records taken by any means have been fried, because not so long ago no one kept records of most species -
If, since the beginning of time, the human race has always had a certain percentage of good, bad and ugly and that there have always been madmen in the world, isn't it true that we hear more about the madmen and the evil today than ever before? Never see headlines about the kid that helped the old lady with her groceries, do we? Yet this latest shooting was on www before the first responders were in place. Think back, those who are old enough, in 1965 would this shooting (bad as it is) have garnered the media coverage that it has? I think more likely a wire service paragraph and perhaps a follow up after the case went to court. Point being that yes we have more violence, because we have more people. And we are more aware of the violence in the most remote areas. Yet I think there may be little change in the numbers of the good and bad percentage wise.

NRA has been behind every gun control law we have, and they went on record in favor of banning bump stocks. NRA is no real friend to guns or gun owners, they are most interested in acquiring wealth through playing one group of uniformed against another group of the uninformed. . Fwiw, your thumb and and any generic belt loop act in the same way a bump stock does. It does nothing at all to make the machine work any different, the trigger still has to be moved. Gun prohibition is the culmination of ignorance in solving social problems. What we are seeing with these mass shootings is the result of compulsory education and the many things that are involved in perpetrating/ propagating the idea that forcing children to attend school will increase their native intelligence. Truth is a college grad today is about on par with a third grader of 100 years ago when it comes to knowledge. But every participant gets a ribbon. Over population is a magnifier of our social inadequacies, for sure. But aside from the forcing genius to learn at the same rate as imbeciles and prohibiting young people from getting jobs and learning to work, we have derived a system of protection. It was mentioned above that kids are not allowed to resolve their differences, neither are adults; always the authorities must protect the weak, the stupid, the bullies, the criminals. I have no means of obtaining statistics but I think more than half the working population of the USA is employed in some form of police or enforcement role. Solving problems introduced and fostered by socialism for the last hundred years or so will take a great deal of undoing, more than likely if the solution comes it will be with or after the anarchy. Let them kids go bare fist at second or third grade level let the noses bleed and the lips swell up, give paddlings in schols rather than time outs reserve the time outs for congressmen and unicorns.

Sam. fwiw, the fish attractors were set at elevations above sea level with out regard to the daily water level, previous sets at 630-635' contour line. Since some of the work at least was freshening up those old piles, it follows that they are still about the same place and since there are maps giving longs&lats they should still be in the same location.

Shouldn't matter if they are high and dry or in a hundred feet of water, what ever they did was just so wrong. I know this because every time MDC does anything there will be a bunch that condemn them. Very rare for their supporters to speak out.

We did duck and cover drills for years decades and no amount of knees around your ears could keep atomic energy, radiation or fallout from harming you. The active shooter drills will condition the kids to follow instructions like good little lambs, may even create some that grow up "law-abiding". (similar to the d&c drills, eh?) There is even an outside chance that it may help manage or prevent loss of life in a future situation. So, I'm lost what is so sad?

I believe that no government can be more corrupt than the people it governs allow. But are you saying there is specific corruption involved in management of Ozark National Scenic Riverway ?
-
I reckon the only way to preserve an area like this is to prohibit all use except barefooted hiking. Rules are there to protect and manage the resource. It may not clear to or understood by the general public what the resource is that is being protected or for what purpose it is being managed. I certainly don't know the scope of the Current River preservation situation. Does the intended protection include just the water, or the river, or the corridor, or the watershed? Or was it meant to be like Yellowstone and generate tourism? Obviously if trail riding and ATV are used in the Ozarks the area is not being protected as wilderness, anymore than an Ozark stream allowing use of motors is being protected. I'm not at all sure that given the extreme relief and unstable soils in most of this region it is even possible to preserve an area or a part of an area. In the State CA near me it would require paved trails for either horses or ATVs to prevent erosion damage. And anyone who has ever been where horses or ATVs were ridden knows that both are impossible to keep on a trail.

Maxima still shows the 3# on their website in the Oneshot spools. I like the Ultra Green but 4# is as small as I've used.

Throw a rubber worm right on a lily leaf, then wiggle it off and let it drop straight down. The lilys I used to fish weren't quite that large, but I think the technique would still work. Somebody needs to teach me about how these coordinates work, or you all need to include driving directions.
