Where did you hit in NE Iowa?

Headed to fish the Driftless at the end of the month. Wanted to see if anybody on here has fished it or has any knowledge. I hear Viroqua is a good basecamp. Driftless Angler fly shop is a good spot to hit up, too. Plan on venturing around there. I am sure terrestrials will be good--any patterns that are better than others? Need to start hitting the vise.

Unless you're fishing wild blue lines, rivers, or offshore you are essentially fishing for hatchery-bred pellet gulpers or otherwise frankenfish. Copper nose bluegill are bred to grow huge. Cold water tolerant Florida strain bass are being stocked into Northern ponds. Buddy has a strip pit here in Missouri and he bought some walleye and perch that were "warm water tolerant" and stocked them. Man is always manipulating nature..

Looks like it. But I know sometimes they have issues at the hatchery where young fish like that escape or something happens to a rearing pool and they have to dump them into the lake. More than likely that is the case.

I think Rick put it best, but the issue is not the fishing of the outlets or scowling at people offering advice--it's the majority of people who fish it, and solely fish it like Rick described, and their holier-than-thou attitudes. If they didn't think they were Lefty Kreh or Bob Clouser reincarnate they'd get plenty of respect for what they do. I will say this--a lot of new folks to Branson go and fish down there and I know a lot of the outlet guys help them and the fishery out immensely. Last summer I could not tell you the amount of people fishing with worms, corn, minnows, etc. that were corrected by the regulars and shown how to fish Taneycomo. I'll fish them to this day if I want to kill some time and the water is high.

Oh yea I got myself kicked out for calling them out on their hypocrisy. Constantly bitching at people about taking care of the fish while they drag one down the lake and onto the rocks for a picture. They can all go suck one. Marriott tried to give me "advice" once and I just told him "eff you, pedo." He evidently didn't know I knew who he was.

The kiddie pool gang is laughable at this point. I think if Marriott turned too quick Lanny would lose his head. Idoux is an idiot. Like Rick said, only a couple know how to actually fish and not snag them in the a**. @JestersHK it was about time I got out! Only did a few hours of fishing but it felt good. I'll be down 8/16-8/23 so if you're around give me a shout.

Headed down to fish Taney, and at all for that matter, for the first time since March. Brought my lady friend and she'd never trout fished before. Much like most folks who don't know a thing, she caught on quick! We fished from the cable to Fall Creek for a few hours Friday and a few hours yesterday. We drug scuds, all sizes, and caught them really good before they bumped up generation to 4 making moss a major issue. Then we drug the DDSS jerkbaits and those seemed to keep the moss at bay--and catch fish. The first fish she hooked into was a giant on a scud. She said "I got one!" and the drag screamed. Reminded me of Jaws when Brody gets the knot tied and the shark takes off. She fought it really well with instruction. Fish got about 30 feet out and jumped straight out. It was a 24-incher, no doubt. It made a run to the boat, she reeled furiously. It got by the side of the boat and I saw the top scud was in its dorsal fin with the other in its mouth. About 3 feet too deep to net. I bet it was 7-8 lbs. One last run and that's all she wrote--snapped her off. She whooped me on Friday. She says because she was better but I say it was because I was tying, casting, and unhooking fish more than actually fishing. I caught a 16-inch brown that I could not get my hand around. It was legitimately 3-lbs. Saturday we started at the cable but did not get bit until Trophy Run. Moss was not nearly as bad as Friday. I'm not kidding when I say we could not go more than 20 yds without a bite. Multiple doubles, lost fish, and break offs. Got below Lookout on the drop off and the DDSS she was throwing no sooner hit the bottom when she said she had a good one. Again, the drag took off. She fought it beautifully and we got this one to the net--21-inch stud rainbow. Had to go in and get a certificate from Lilley's! In fact, every fish we caught was fat. I landed a 19.5-incher before she caught the big one and it was every bit of 4-lbs. That was on a tandem scud rig 10-ft below an indicator. The fish are so healthy and heavy, and full of hatred. Every fish fought incredibly hard. It was a great two day trip to my favorite lake, and a great introduction to a lady who never caught a trout before!

As Quillback said, the act of traveling gets old really fast. I work for a corporation as my main gig and I traveled a LOT before Covid. Seeing and experiencing new places was fun (most of the time), but the travel itself is just annoying. I started caring less about my job, in a way where I still do good work but don't sweat anything, when another PM here passed away unexpectedly in May. His email was erased in four days and he was replaced in 6. They do not care about me, and every single person is replaceable. So, why put too much into it? At the end of the day, if I want to fish, hunt, or drink whiskey on my back porch while running a client go-live on a Sunday night at 7:51 pm, then I am going to do it.

I fished the Niangua in March and perused BSSP. I would much rather hit the river and float than fish the park. Not now, but in the winter. Plastic hatch is probably strong on the Niangua now.

That is nice! It would just be me and my dog, if that's allowed. He's a well-trained hunting lab. I don't have a boat but figured I could possibly wade or rent a river boat somewhere if available. I want to mainly fly fish.

For some reason I have never fished the White River, and I am going to change that here soon. Looking to spend a few days fishing and working remotely from somewhere down that way. Any recommendations on where to stay? Cotter seems like the most popular river access from what I've seen. I've done some googling, but I figured you guys are a better resource than anything else. Any help is appreciated!

That's crazy good. Other buddy got a diesel sierra and loves it. Gets 680 miles on a tank and averages 22 mpg in the city, 28-30 on the highway. Got it for $43k

Good luck. My buddy drives a ton for work and sold his 2018 Silverado with 132k miles for $39,000 last month. Insane.

Lake Taneycomo near Lookout Island. I've been fishing a lot of places, and Taneycomo will always be my favorite.
