  1. Thanks for the feedback. Probably should just stick to the boat in that area and go with the kayak further up.
  2. This may be a dumb question, but looking for a new adventure. Has anyone kayaked or floated from Blunks to Walnut Springs? If so, how many hours does it take? I thought this might be interesting/fun way to fish for whites and crappie.
  3. I have purchased 3 rods from Amazon and had no issues. One was a Dobyns heavy.
  4. I haven’t posted in a long time. I fish Cape Fair quite a bit. Not an expert by any means but have had some success with smallies on transitions of chunk/gravel/ledge on the gentler slopes. Certain secondary points b/w piney and bear den tend to hold them most of the summer. Haven’t caught one in a month or so but been on a different pattern lately catching mostly spots. I catch most of smallies on finesse jigs and 4-5 inch worms. Don’t know if that helps any....
  5. Don’t know if this will help or not. Friday night the water color was good, visibility was 3-4 feet. Fishing was good that afternoon and after dark. There were a lot of floaters and I’m sure there’s more now. Water rose about a foot from time put in until time we left. I believe it is up about 2 more feet since then. Like I said, don’t know if that helps b/c I’m sure it’s changed since then. Good luck if you make the trip.
  6. Just a thought, maybe not a great one and if it’s been mentioned previously I missed it. But, my understanding is that during spoonbill season we are required to pass the spoonbillers at idle speed. Why can’t the same stipulation be applied to wake boats and smaller vessels? If throwing wakes at spoonbillers is a safety issue, throwing big wakes should be considered across the board, all times of the year. I had a situation in Woolley last year with a wake boat where I was scared to death—thought I was going under. The wakes are why I will only night fish pretty much from the first of May until the end of September. I don’t necessarily want to do away with wake boats, but there needs to be more safety regulations so all can enjoy the lake safely. And, I have nothing against spoonbillers or idling past them, just trying to transfer the courtesy to all of us.
  7. Wish I could give you some tips for more success in that area. I have struggled to find a pattern this fall. Made it out for a while today and just had a couple. I tried mainly shallow this trip and that was a bad plan. I wouldn’t worry too much about marking those spots on the map. I fish that stretch quite a bit and those areas aren’t a big secret. They get hit pretty hard. Good luck in the future.
  8. Thanks for reporting. I’m going to try to get out tomorrow and give it a shot.
  9. I fished from the Marina to Wooley last Saturday. I’m not great at fishing deep either, but I was trying to learn. I tried mainly areas on bluffs that had steep drop offs. In my opinion, the bite was very soft and weird. Had several that picked it up and swam toward the boat and I couldn’t catch up with them. Fished mainly a jig sitting in 30-50 ft. I did not try any coves or shallow areas. Good luck.
  10. Similar results at Cape Fair. I had six, all shorts. A couple were close to keepers, but not quite. Spent most of the day in the creek with nothing. Went to main lake and caught the six on ledges sitting in 25-40 ft of water. I threw jigs, lipless crank, shallow crank, baby brush hog, grub, and ended with a worm. They all came on the worm. I did see one pleasure boat, but it was parked and had a couple divers going off it. That was fun to watch.
  11. Fished late afternoon to 10:30. Tried some main lake points for a short time. There were a ton of cruisers, skiers, jet skis, etc. They drove me to the creeks. Caught about a dozen. Caught them on a variety—grub, brush hog, worm, and lipless crank. Couldn’t get the jig to work. Ended up with three keepers. WT 76-78.
  12. Thank you Mr. Babler. Sprint and Dan thanks for the feedback.
  13. This is my first post. I just got back into fishing last summer after about a 20 year break. I’ve been reading the forum trying to relearn. I put in about 5:00 pm and fished to 11:00. Fished mainly 30-40 ft with jig and worm. I caught two about 14 inches and a sunfish about 4 inches (does that count?). Since I wasn’t getting much action I tried a craw and lipless crankbait. I caught four on the crank with two keepers right on the bank. I wasn’t expecting to catch any with the crank, but it was on the deck and nothing else was working.....
