Anybody have a portable solar generator?
grizwilson replied to snagged in outlet 3's topic in General Chat
I have a Jackery 300 I use in canoe on overnights, much much lighter than the group 27 agm I was carrying not sure how long it will last but can tell you it will run my cpap and charge phone for 3 nights and still shows about 33% do not have the solar panel for it but would be a great addition for Colorado boondocking. -
Hey Dutch, that is exactly how I use the LS, have the HB side scan on helm, go down a bank and SI then go back where I see fish. Not real good at LS but working on it. In the area of Cape Fair, it was great as I have been on that part of the Lake since 1959 so know it pretty good, sure you are very familiar so it is interesting to look for/at stuff you know is there. IMOP Good Plan.

@fishinwrenchJust because I am a bit slow, are you speaking of the Humminbird GPS puck or the Minnkota Heading Sensor puck. My spot lock is not as good as it should be, probably needs recalibrated. but it sits pretty close to my TM mount Thanks

Mine is a 17’ now you have me jonesing for a 20’. You would be surprised how many of the big time pros float our rivers in these rigs with a trolling motor for fun fishing. One thing to add as you noted they are different. They float great but will not plane out. Full motor will push nose up due to the design.

https://m.facebook.com/blazerRCM/posts/paddle-jon-perfect-for-floating-and-fishing-they-come-in-a-32-or-35-bottom-width/2652538041652983/ @Alex Chang not sure on cost. @LittleRedFishermanIs familiar with those folks. Sure Joe Troutt and sons at St. James or Fred at current river marine could give you a price. Would suggest 32” for paddling had a 36 it was great float but pain to paddle I have the motor off set to my left side use my canoe paddle. Have a seat off set in front to left to balance weight. I use 4 or 5 hp or trolling motor. If you look can find good two strokes bulletproof and lighter. Can send pics when I get home next week.

Raft durability, well its the same material that floats 10-12 people down whitewater with larger rollers haystacks and rocks, so most ozark streams no contest. Now a disclaimer, I have not ran or been in one of the following, but might be a fit for what you are wanting: (1) Best Boat for Freshwater and River Fishing - Takacat 340 LX Inflatable - Bing video Takacat LX Series | An Inflatable Boat That Fits in a Bag (takacatamericas.com) no idea of draft etc. for the record the AquaGlide Blackfoot is rated for two people, while I have the two seats it has always been solo. Another for the record, having floated for 60 years, I have seen many couples fights on the river, might suggest two solo boats? My advice to engaged people is to spend at least two days and an overnight canoe trip, if you survive that your good to go....been married 42 years so far...

Just another thought, possible an inflatable boat??? I have a inflatable yak Aquaglide blackfoot angler it was not cheap, but is made of material like white water raft and has a floor that is like an inflatable paddle board, rigid you can stand up, tuff floats high, but does catch wind. Not sure if they make a boat but might be worth exploring. The yak fits in a back pack use it on trips to Florida Montana Colorado Wyoming. Light weight, The new pumps air up quickly.

I spline the few 4 pc I have built. The butt section is very iffy and not really necessary, but the top 3 are definitely worth the effort. One thing I might suggest is the little dots to line up the sections like Temple fork does, easy to do and really like. Shoot, if I can find a tip top for my early 2000 7wt St. Croix might get @rps to wrap it, will likely have to buy an entire blank if I can find a match. As @Dutch says the quality is very noticeable.

Sorry, while the square back looks like a swell idea, the motor, be it outboard or trolling motor sits directly behind you, go to your nearest retail with displays, get directly in front of a tiller motor and try to start, operate steer. In a jon you have room to sit side ways and operate, in a side mount on a canoe it will be on your side, try sitting side ways in your canoe..... hope this helps

Having owned a squareback canoe, it was a pain to try to run it directly behind me. I have used the motor attachments that @Gavin speaks of, still have one and occasionally use it would never go back to square back, plus more function and use of canoe. That said also have a 17' paddle john, that is far superior to the squareback, a much more stable fishing platform, floats as shallow as my 17' royalex hauls a ton of gear. Like @fishinwrench I like the boat. Have thrown it on top the suburban but I was younger and stronger then. my advice is add a paddlejon and a small outboard and or TM

Thanks, I am going to try a couple things, but may end up going the delete route rather than a large repair bill on a 35 year old champion with a 21 year old outboard...... don't think it will hurt my resale bad....and this nice weather needs to end so I can be without it a few days. -
