  2. I went walleye prospecting on Sunday. I found 6 on a crawler harness fished around 15 feet deep. Unfortunately, none were legal to keep, but I still feel this is a good sign. Water temp was 64.
  3. Take a long look at the Lews. I recently bought one because the last Spirex I bought was not the equal of the one before. So far, I am impressed.
  4. Well done! Depth of bite?
  5. Check out the 6'6" Medium Falcon BuCoo at Tackle Warehouse. $99 and free shipping.

  7. Missouri: You may take fish by pole and line, trotline, throwline, limb line, bank line and jug line. Ice fishing tackle, or tip-ups, are considered a pole-and-line method. Permitted Nonhook Methods Certain species in designated waters may be taken by the use of bow, crossbow, gig, atlatl, snare or by underwater spearfishing, snagging or grabbing. However, game fish not hooked in the mouth or jaw must be returned to the water unharmed immediately, except paddlefish legally taken during the paddlefish snagging season. All of the above methods of taking fish are considered sport fishing methods. (See Regulations and Permits Definitions under Related Information below). Number of Poles and Hooks If you use more than 3 poles (or 2 poles on the Mississippi River) at any one time, the additional poles must be labeled with your full name and address. Regardless of the method or number of poles, you may not use more than a total of 33 hooks at any one time; except on the Mississippi River the maximum is 50 hooks at one time. If fishing on the Mississippi River and on other Missouri waters at the same time, no more than 50 hooks may be used and not more than 33 on waters other than the Mississippi. Hooks on trotlines must be staged at least 2 feet apart. Hooks on any type of line, as well as the line itself, must be attended every 24 hours or removed.
  8. Arkansas regulations: Trotlines, Setlines and Limblines Trotlines, setlines and limlines are allowed in most areas (check your destination for specific regulations). Drops or hooks on lines must be at least 24 inches apart. Fish must be removed from lines daily. All lines must be clearly marked with the user's name and address, driver's license number or vehicle license number. This information must be attached to each line at the end closest to the bank. Between the main levees of the Mississippi River, anglers may not fish more than 100 hooks at a time. On the Arkansas River, trotlines may not be used below any lock and dam from the dam to the nearest arrival point navigation marker downstream. Stakes added to AGFC-owned lakes for limblines must be made from wood or cane and must be removed from the lake when not in use.
  9. Clear, bone, and blue or green with a white bottom. Spook Jr. and Top Dollar are both inexpensive and I will vouch for the fish catching ability of both.
  10. I've only had the one - 42 years in August. Found her in the East and used my dogs as bait to convince her to come home with me. Things I have learned: 1. Don't keep a jar of bacon grease on the stove top. If you need grease, fry bacon that day. 2. Learn to like sweet cake-like corn bread. Or stop eating cornbread. 3. Green beans, Brussels sprouts, and asparagus are not intended to be limp and a little gray. 4. "Go ahead" is not permission. It is a dare. Don't do it!
  11. Amen, and pass the ammunition.

I guess I do things wrong. I don't "hook set" with top water. I use the sharpest hooks I can lay my hands on. Daiichi Deathtraps are my preference (thank you Bill Babler). Lucky Craft trebles are good. So are Owner stingers. When I get a bite, I reel down as quick as I can while pointing the rod at the fish and then simply lift to rod to fighting position. The combination of sharp hooks, tight line, and rod lift seems to be all that I need. Fish rarely throw the hook with me. My most common reason to lose a fish is a break off, usually with some object (brush, limb, stump) involved. Just a thought.
  13. I have not pickled asparagus, but if I had to, I would treat it like cucumber. Salt and ice to crisp it, stack it in a jar butt side down with a bit of hot pepper at the bottom, and then fill the jar with the pickle marinade, seal it and process it. With that method, you have a hope of retaining the green color and the crisp.
  14. The man speaks the truth. Chug Bugs really early, Ned rigs and shakey heads after that. Once you switch to plastics, thinks deep on a flat point.
  15. I lost Dad some years ago. Some of my favorite memories of him are our trips to Canada when I was a pre teen and our trips to the lower White River for big browns when he was in his 70's. I am very glad you were able to share his last two years.
  16. What they said /\.
  17. F&F; Try this> 1/3 soy sauce, 1/3 orange juice, 1/3 dry white wine (I use Gallo dry vermouth -> very cheap). Marinate 30 minutes to 2 hours. Grill.
  18. That is an excellent fish. Good job.

Though I rarely fish it anymore, I found the Chug Bug very productive on Table Rock. The key seemed to be that the first motion you make should be after it settles (no rings) and be very subtle. I often had hits while it was sitting quietly or after it quivered. If that failed, I usually worked it back to the boat with a staccato pop pop pop pop. The reason I stopped fishing it and the Spook was my discovery of a bait that I could use either way. See my avatar. If you search the forum for Top Dollar you will find a number of threads that discuss it. Good Luck.
  20. A good "hook set" is important, but a word of caution > few things are funnier than the man who sets his hook so well that he falls out of the boat when nothing is there. I once spent nearly a year not talking to a law school class mate because I laughed when he fell out of my boat on a "hook set." As a positive suggestion, try this: Take your tackle box into the house with a good file and sharpen every barb on every lure into a triangular cutting point. You will be surprised how much this increases your hook up and hold.
  21. Norman Lures has them. Here is a link: http://www.normanlures.com/UI/Customer.aspx?p=ProductView&ProductID=8IBoNST1uAlhlJb90ze-sEn2N-smBA7JboB996-seZcezHky0zE-p9Jotg-e-e&CatID=b3ko-sIs26uDWEQEa1b1hgMT38Tf9UqZ7wRIHParWA21QbP9RgfTCIg-e-e I would buy the Nutter, Chrome or Shadow Shad. I had Tim Hughes paint a dozen for me several years ago. The three colors that have produced the best from that are a blue scale, a green scale, and a petroleum slick scale. Even after I paid for the painting, shipping, the death trap hooks, and the feathers I tied to the rear treble, they cost under $20 each
  22. Back in the day - Charlie Brewer slider fishing day - the magazine articles all emphasized that no "hook set" was needed. Instead they recommended a broad sweep with the rod held low and to the side. More than enough pressure to set the small hook and less line up in the wind ready to become slack. For me this is easy as it is exactly the same motion you use when fishing a nightcrawler on a lindy rig or a worm harness. I am happy fishing 10# Suffix braid joined to an 8 to 10 foot Yozuri leader in 6# with a Crazy Alberto knot. I check the drag setting frequently by pulling line from the spool. An ideal setting allows just the tiniest bit of drag slip when I sweep the bait to hook up. I just wish I was better at catching with the rig. I miss many bites.
  23. Ahhh, gentlemen, may I offer an alternative? Look at my avatar. That is a Norman Top Dollar. You can fish it as a popper or you can walk it. It flat catches fish. I have had several 50+ fish days using it and my best was a 23.5 inch post spawn female my Cabelas spring scale said was between 8 and 8.25 pounds. AND they are cheap (unless you get carried away like I did and have them repainted and install death trap hooks on them.)
  24. Tackle Tour uses Maxima as the gold standard against which it measures all hybrids and flouro lines. That says it all. I use Yozuri Hybrid which does test at a higher level and is cheap.
  25. I am hoping most everyone will be down lake. We are behind on the cycle up here and I hope everyone knows that.
