  1. I am not trying to kidnap this thread. I merely want to share with those who might read this.
  2. Enjoy! Remember not to let the shaft slip down and crimp the cables. That will make the motor do crazy things. You want the lower unit only deep enough not to cavitate.

    What's Cooking?

Citrus pasta salad with asparagus, peas, capers, and herbs.
  4. Several, if not the majority, of the serious walleye fishermen on this forum have chimed in. I urge you to heed what they say. As to the rest, where are you Rangerman and Mike Alley? Dan Hufferd, do you bottom bounce?

    What's Cooking?

Are those mushrooms on the pork? Looks great BTW.
  7. Few outboards can troll at 1 mph. Many years ago the old Fishing Facts magazine recommended what they called back trolling. Trolling in reverse slows the boat way down. Problem is, unless you have tiller steer, turning the boat to stay with a contour becomes a problem. Of course, in those days trolling motors were more positioning motors. Today's generation can practically tow skiers. I think the key is that modern trolling motors do not spook the walleye, even in 8-10' of water.
  8. While @lmt-outfitters and I do not do things the same way, what he has written is excellent advice for any interested in catching walleye.
  9. Bottom line. this generation is radically better than what you have experienced.

  12. They are hideously expensive, but look into the LIFePO4 batteries.
  13. You know, sometimes the wrench can be "prickly." Threads like this show why we value him.
  14. Wrench can be a downer. Not that he does not know a lot. But he is a cynic. I have had the Force on my boat since last year. I am totally satisfied. I have used a Motorguide from more than ten years ago, a Terrova, and Ulterra. None can match what I have in the Force. More power with less battery drain and a better spot lock. Easier implementation (the word I want eludes me) and retrieval. I would choose between it and a Ghost.

    What's Cooking?

Hamburger steaks with Stilton, tots, and mushrooms.
  16. Years ago, I fished Texhoma with a law school classmate that loved to chase stripers. The maniac drove full throttle chasing the gulls. He swam c tail grubs through stripers busting the top. He said the big fish stay below and feed on the dead and dying shad that sink. I do not know if he was correct, but we caught some really decent fish between 10 and 20.
  17. Some of us are much slower. My top end is 37 mph (GPS). I cruise at 30 MPH, about 5000 rpm.I have a much longer window of observation. If you want to know fear, be chugging along at 6 mph in a thick fog and hear someone, revved to top end, go by using gps maps.

I love the concept of lingerie in the freezer. One never wants to be overheated.

Techo in Aunt Creek. Like watching a TV reunion show?
  21. Always assume the other guy/gal is stupid or uneducated. Sometimes you will be pleasantly surprised. Mostly you will be correct. BTW, I make the same assumption when I look in the mirror. Goodness knows I have lost count of the times I have done something stupid.
  22. What he said ^^^ Bottom bouncing at 1 to 1.4 mph with a 24 volt set up = a full day. Long line trolling at 2 to 2.5 mph = more than 4, maybe even 6 hours. Of course it also depends on how many times you have charged and discharged the battery, and what other devices you have attached. https://www.trollingmotors.net/blogs/selection/86961351-calculating-motor-run-time amp draw information for my 24 volt Force https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/forcetrollingmotor/EN-US/GUID-9BEB843E-2C2B-450E-B9B2-F4C9F29D0C2E.html
  23. Wow. A spoonplug. I haven't heard or read about those in many years. Fishing Facts often featured Buck Perry. Thanks for the memory.
  24. I caught one heavy fish. A drum. No picture. I caught a small but nice smallmouth around 12 inches. I had a small largemouth on for about 10 seconds. That was it before the wind came up. My positive take? In the last few trips I have caught smallmouth and a walleye. I must be in Minnesota. The negative take? I have not figured out how to take advantage of that. Do you suppose I need to buy some Daredevil spoons?
  25. Fished with the new reel again today. I did not catch much, but that was not the reel's fault. It handled beautifully, and the drum I caught pulled well enough to test the drag. Smooth. Now we need to see if it holds up to mistreatment.
