Nikon Z6 ii. And yes I will shoot video with it. That was part of the reason for the upgrade. I went from a Nikon D7500 crop sensor DSLR to a full frame mirrorless. It's a huge jump really. For the record, that camera doesn't get the best reviews, and has been replaced by the Z6 iii, but it was the right choice for me at this time. If I didn't already own Nikon lenses that I could convert to this body I would have probably jumped to Canon. But I didn't have another 2K just to get me where I am now with a single lens. And let's face it, this is much more camera than I had, I absolutely love it, and I have been a Nikon shooter the entire time.

my wife and I float around there a bunch because of the easy shuttle but it has turned into a zoo the last several years. But everyone seems to be a lot better behaved too.

There are some great camping spots along that stretch if you want to do it primitive. Other than that it's going to be Hootentown or James River Outfitters for a campground. I'm probably out that weekend on camping but will definitley make it down to float.

And by October, most of the party floaters will be done floating for the year. Somebody choose a date so I can try to get that on the warden's calendar.

The guide makes it much simpler. But you are right, all you really need is a good map. And all maps have a scale. And that’s how you measure the river. It’s pretty basic stuff.

It's 2023. 1965 doesn't matter anymore. But yes I can mark a map and make my way downstream. That's what we did in the early 2000's. There were no smart phones then either. If you can't figure out where you are from a paper map you should probably just stay in your house.
