Do You Tie and Test or Tie What You Use
Flysmallie replied to mic's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
For trout I only tie what I need to get by. I rarely target them outside of C&R season at Roaring River. I tie a lot of different stuff for warmwater, and tie some newer patterns that I see sometimes, and then some things I just dream up. But when it comes to actually fishing I just stick with the few that I always use. -
Used to catch a lot of fish this time of year on a buzz toad up there. I haven’t used one of those in twenty years or more.

Just the cost of having a good time. I would be an expensive date though. We should have an OAF shoot sometime.

@Ketchup I have these vintage 410 shells that were carried by me when I was 10. That would have been 1979. I’ll take $75 a piece. LOL

What are you listening to?
Flysmallie replied to Bushbeater's topic in New News and General Discussion
My tastes are all over the place. My playlists contain classical to metal. I will listen to, and probably enjoy, most music. When I go to see it live though, I want it to kick. But I'm just there to take pics. One from the 21st. -
Water has been pretty low so I haven't been fishing, but in the creeks close by they seem to be hanging out where they always do. I walked down a local creek last weekend and even though the water was real low, the two fish I was looking for are still where they always are. They would have a better life about a half mile down the creek where it enters a nice river, but they either don't know it's there or don't care. I located one of these fish about this time last year and the other just a few months ago. But I have never witnessed these migrations on this watershed. And it's really the only one that I have fished during the winter, outside of the trout streams. And these fish don't seem to migrate anywhere. There are spots where springs come in and there is no greater concentration there at anytime of the year. I have always heard that they will seek out the deep holes, or springs, or all go on down to the lake, but when I fish for them in the winter they always seem to be where I would always think they should be. I don't get it.

Eleven Point Trip report 10/21-10/23
Flysmallie replied to ColdWaterFshr's topic in Eleven Point River
Beautiful place. Note to self: Don't buy a drone. Other note to self: Check Amazon. -
Breakfast burritos are a great river camp food. Nothing beats biscuits & gravy or a big bowl of oatmeal in the cold.

I spend a lot of nights in hotels. It sucks. The expense doesn't come out of my pocket but I still have a travel budget that I have to stick to. Some of my favorite places no longer make the cut because of the expense, but I did get to stay in some pretty nice hotels during the pandemic way cheaper than a Motel 6. I can still find a nice place to stay at a decent rate, just have to stay a little farther out usually. Either that or stay in a cheap hotel and I'm not doing that.

I’ve done two floating worms tied on one line that was ran through a swivel on the main line. It worked but sometimes having two fish on is not better than one.

GPS coordinates or we execute you at dawn.

He's good as long as you don't let him choose the float. I actually captured around 3 hours of video from Saturday and part of that is me chewing him out for his four wheel drive float. I need to get that edited down so you can see he hasn't changed. I miss him being on here too along with guys like Mitch. I know Chief ruffled some feathers but he also contributed some quality content. Even I let some of that get the best of me and we hated each other for a long period of time. It became so bad that other people had to get involved. Now we are really good friends. I love that guy. I also know that I pissed off Mitch but he needs to quit being a (other word for cat) and come back. He had a lot to contribute too, and I'm sure there is more to explore in his mind. But like so many others he seemed to get bored with sharing. I get that too. It was exciting in the beginning. Wish we could get all that back.

Sorry Officer.

The fishing was pretty good. The dragging over, under, and around was annoying. That section needs some chainsaw work, maybe dynamite in some spots.

Stupidity, just stupidity. We were weaving in and out through this jungle float Britt chose and at that small log there was really no where else to go. I might have been able to squeeze through in front of it but I doubt it. I could have set up against that log all day. It's when I decided to step out that everything went wrong. It was much deeper that I thought and I rolled it just a little too far. I got tossed but landed perfectly and was never in any real danger. Freaked out a bit because I have a lot of camera gear up under there but we were able to retrieve all of it. The only thing I lost was a strap and a few drinks.

You know I could tell you exactly where we were, but trust me, you don't want to go there. When I talked to @Chief Grey Bear about the location, I told him I really didn't care where we went. But since my knee is all f'd up I didn't want to go four wheel drive floating. Britt knows what that means and assured me that it wouldn't be an issue. He lied.

I don't know exactly how accurate they are, but there are markers on the square showing where each stood during the gunfight.

When it's been tough I have done pretty good on soft hackles.

That dispensary in BFE must have a good batch going right now. I don't think anyone was going to believe any of his lies. They looked much smarter than average Trump supporters.

Pomme is a very difficult lake in the summer. A lot of times those fish are going to be much shallower than anyone would expect. It can be incredible during the fall. At this point I would have on a crankbait and spinnerbait and go cover a bunch of water.

So sorry about Max ness. Looks like he had a great life. I love my dog more than most people so I understand how hard it is.

What charge can be more severe than having to stand there, in that crowd, while they pull the weights out and watching everything you thought you had disappear.
