  1. It seems we used to have a glossary of terms on here somewhere. I was hoping to find it but I could not. If you look at a good map of Table Rock you will see many locations named as a "hollow". These are locations where the lake has backed up into a hilly draw that doesn't really have a creek in it. They tend to be steep sided and uniform on both sides tapering to the center. That's about as good as I can describe them. Maybe someone local to the area "hint, hint" will come on here and help give you a better answer.
  2. The hope for me in 2010 is 1) involve my wife more with fishing 2) improve my proficiency with my electronics 3) get out of the results business and just enjoy each trip
  3. Do you have any interest in a 797 side image Humminbird ?
  4. Brett, It was cloudy most of the time so we fished baits with a matte Table Rock shad pattern. After the cast we sweep our rod to get the bait to dive on down to the depth. After that it was pretty simple. We would give the rod 2 jerks moving the rod about 2ft on the first jerk immediately folled by a second jerk which is actually more of a twitch about 6 inches. When we paused in the cadence before taking up the slack the pause was fairly short, about 3 or 4 seconds. The water was about 47 degrees and on Tuesday the fish seemed active. On Wednesday it was a completely different story. I think the fish were on the bottom for the most part and we had trouble getting feeding fish located. We fished a different part of the lake on Wednesday but the same type of places. Occasionally my partner would spot fish on his graph in about 25-30 water and he got 3 Keeper K's on a chartreuse slab knocker of 3/4 oz. We fished banks with ledge rock that went deep pretty quick and banks with basketball size chunk rock. Our best action was on these type banks located not on the lake, not in the creeks, but in the hollows. Good luck and don't forget to keep a change of clothes in the boat this time of year and make sure to let someone have a fairly good idea of what part of the lake you will be in.
  5. Donna, it's good to hear from you again. I'm hoping to someday get a chance to meet you and champ. Tight lines.
  6. Went out of Mill creek this morning with Steve Dickey at 8:30. We fished until 5:30. We fished secondary steep points and some chunk rock with jerkbaits. We caught em on 3 different kinds of jerkbaits. 24 degrees this morning. Chilly! 10 K's, 4 largies, 2 smalljaws. Best 5 would push 15lbs. 7 were keepers.
  7. I just wanted to say I'm gonna be out of pocket for a few days culminated with 2 days of Jerkbait fishin on ya alls lake. I've sure enjoyed this forum this year and wanted to wish everyone here a Merry Christmas! GETFISHED !!!
  8. 1) jerkbaits 2) jigs 3)grubs That's my prediction
  9. Denjac, thanks for the info. I don't keep up with FLW much myself. I used to keep informed about BASS but no so much anymore. I notice FLW is calling the Forrest Wood Cup the "world championship of bass fishing." Interesting, I thought BASS had claim to that title? GETFISHED !!!
  10. I'm not thinking anyone is that thin skinned. But if they are maybe some one else will just start a new thread out of "respect" for them. GETFISHED !!!
  11. STILL ? GETFISHED !!!
  12. Bill, great thread concerning the boater/nonboater issue. I went back and reread the entire thread about the "Heartland Derby" and I never did see anywhere a disrespectful comment about anyone named Ralph or the Heartland Derby. I guess I just don't understand your second sentence in this thread. Are you of the opinion that something was posted disrespectful or in a disrespectful way. If I have made those posts I apologize. We were having a nice discussion it seemed.
  13. Seems like with today's technology, law enforcement could easily log this information on gps's instead of having to find it posted physically on a dock. I agree with this. Using the the current method will allow/force (whichever you like) the expense to be borne by the property owner instead of the government. But I'm sure there's more to it.
  14. I think you kind of have to play it by ear. Some Pros are humble and intelligent enough to be open to these other perspectives. Others aren't. If you do this I suggest a very tactful delicate approach. Many times you can implement something different on your own and trust me, if it works the Pro will usually wake up so to speak. Aint hindsight great? GETFISHED !!!
  15. This thread has produced some interesting comments. I appreciate them all. I had a couple experiences that really caught my attention that i wanted to share. My uncle who lives in Springfield has fished the Rock since the 50's or whenever it was opened. He knows it like the back of his hand. He is responsible for teaching me through his actions many ethics as they relate to fishing. I remember going in the boat more than once on a long boat ride to a certain spot to fish. Upon arriving there sometimes would be another boat already in the area. If the location my uncle desired to was large enough he would fish there. He never approached another boat within approx. 100 yards. and he always went down the bank in a direction pointing away from the other boat. He never followed another boat down the bank and he never fished down the bank towards another boat. If he couldn't fish under these terms he would simply turn the boat around and go find another place. I realize this might be a bit hard to do today on some lakes but you get the idea. To this day I am very hesitant to get very close to another boat. The other experience was just the other day and I was floored when I saw it. I was watching Ultimate Match Fishing. It was Arron Martin and another guy from the FLW. They were running to Aaron's fishing location and when they arrived there was a local fishing the spot already. After a minute or two of discussion these competitors decided it was OK to ask the local if they could come in the area and fish, including the camera boat because they wanted to continue filming their show. On the TV screen you couldn't hear an audible response from the local but the camera showed him throw his arms up in the air. Apparently that gesture and anything he may have said was interpreted as permission to enter so they did. I could not believe they had the gall to ask for that concession from the local. I also couldn't believe they would show that on TV. This is not a good example of sportsmanship ie; asking for permission to enter an area that is already being fished by a local simply because they were filming a show. An appropriate example to portray would have been for Aaron to simply say that this is unfortunate and as a result we will need to leave this location to the local and continue elsewhere. Nowadays many people are just determined not to be thwarted in their objective. One of the guys I fish with grew up in a large city and I think this has an effect on how people see things and make choices. One time we were fishing a tournament and we made a small run about 5 miles to fish a point. When we arrived a local...... not a tourney competitor, was sitting out in about 30-35 ft. of water fishing the radius of the point. My partner had it in his head that these fish were in about 15-20 ft. of water. He wants to go inside this guy and fish the point. We had a mild disagreement and I relented but I went to the back deck. My partner went to the front deck and proceeded to fish. It was very uncomfortable for me. As this continued on for a bit my partner began to expand his route on the point and the local began to ease away more and more all the time and I continued to feel real crummy about the whole deal. I never looked at the local for my shame wouldn't allow it and at the same time when my partner was ready to move on he never even flinched. He was definitely raised different than I was. We were in my boat and I silently vowed that never again would I stand for that. GETFISHED !!!
  16. I can relate to this. I have been fishing Heartland Team Series and Heartland Pro Am as an amatuer for 3 seasons now. The lessons I learned In the ProAms were really valuable. Some of them were rather unpleasant but lessons none the less. There has been more than once when the behavior of a "pro" taught me how NOT to treat others in the boat with me. Overall the majority of the Pros are incredibly genuine and authentic and the experience in the boat was nothing short of awesome. I am not fishing Pro Am this year because afer fishing with approximately 20 different Pros I have come to the conclusion that time on the water is the one element that I need most to continue improving my fishing skills. I will in the future plan to hire guide service to improve certain particular aspects of my skills or lack of them. We tried to produce a good largemouth bite on Saturday hoping that these fish would run larger. Well we caught 26 of em but nary a one would measure. At the last minute we went to a main lake ledge that produced a smallie in the past and sure enough it produced again. We boated 2 smallies for a weight of 5.94 lbs. It was too little, too late. All in all we had a good day. GETFISHED !!!!
  17. Way to go ! Congrats Jeremy! Way to take it on the road and get it done!!!! GETFISHED !!!
  18. I once sent in a shimano spinning rod with a break in it about 10" from the tip. I nicely asked them to evaluate it for warranty and two weeks later I received a brand new Crucial in the mail. I certainly didn't send them a Crucial but I think that my model was discontinued or something like that. SHIMANO ROCKS !!!! GETFISHED!!!
  19. Hello, I must fish Table Rock vicariously most of the time through you all since I live so far away. Thanks GETFISHED !!!
  20. Don, I have the 700 series SI mounted on my trolling motor and the 997 SI on the console. I think for me it's a bit overkill, but you can probably have lots of fun with it. (There aint nuthin under dem docks) shhhh! GETFISHED !!!
  21. Well, I've read all 5 pages of this and it has transpired over a few days, kinda like a saga. Ha ha! Since I'm up here in the great state of Kansas I don't post too often. I did ask Eric one morning at State park boat ramp a few questions about current techniques and patterns. He very politely commented in a useful way and off I went. That was the only time I've ever been around Eric.I felt awkward asking so I tried to phrase my requests in a general way. Yes I did want some useful info for free but not trade secrets and I do believe there is a difference. I think the guide has a real challenge in reading people. Some people will appreciate the fee paid for a wonderful day on the water. They don't have to burden themselves with the expense and headache of maintaining a boat. Nor do they have to learn the lake to maximize their chances of catching fish. All they have to do is use the phone to schedule the trip and show up. Sometimes other people have different expectations and they are a bit more of a challenge to deal with. They want everything possible under the sun because they are paying a fee for guide service. Primarily these people want to catch fish and LOTS of them! Herein, I think is a dangerous area to tread. Many times the guide falls victim to the pursuit of catching lots of fish. Fear of not being able to do this might make them somewhat petty or overprotective of this body of water which is public domain whether we individually use it to make money and livelihood or just for pleasure. I know this suggestion might be considered silly by some or already in practice by others but here goes..... There are always going to be greedy people but maybe the emphasis of the guide business could shift somewhat to a more educational format of the lake, the area around the lake, the fish and wildlife in the area. Throw in some fishing with an experienced "guide" and raise your "chance" of catching some nice fish as an added perk instead of the primary one of catching as many as possible. GETFISHED !!! 22. That's funny right there Denjac! I would try that myself but I can't trade for some time now as I'm trying to get my affairs and property in order so that I can move to Forsyth or Hollister. GETFISHED !!!
  23. Hey Eric. That is unfortunate to have to report a young soldier's passing. I have been reading but not posting for some time now, waiting for something to spur me into action. I would love to fish this TX but truth is I may not. I could however maybe post up some type of scholarship fund of a minimal amount and maybe we could combine that with others who might like to contribute in a nominal way until we receive enough to fund a couple of youngsters to go along as non-boaters. This would help support our youth and show them that there are many ways to support our soldier's and country. It's just an idea of a way for more people to support this cause even though they may not be able to attend. I'm not trying to complicate things or steal anyone's thunder. Just a thought and if it doesn't fly then I still will make an effort to support it. GETFISHED !!!
  24. I'm curious what the law is in Missouri. Do you have to tag all boat trailers? In Kansas lots of people get confused but I believe as long as the trailer is under 2000 lbs. you don't have to tag. GETFISHED !!!
