  1. I thought they looked pretty good too. It's a lot of $$ but if they perform well and last a long time it would be worth it (to me). I never had a problem investing in high quality tools.
  2. Found this review of reels that is fairly recent. http://www.outdoorlife.com/blogs/wringer/tackle-test-2015-best-spinning-and-baitcasting-reels
  3. I tie a variety of knots. For Jigs and worm hooks I like a Palomar. For hardware (crank baits, WTD, etc) I like this knot. http://www.animatedknots.com/sandiegojam/index.php?Categ=fishing&LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com I have always called it the Pitzen knot but on this site it's called a San Diego Jam knot. It's basically a reverse clinch knot and it supposedly has a high % break strength.
  4. Words of wisdom from Mitch...Pure gold advice.
  5. I couldn't resist throwing iOS out there (like the old Ford vs Chevy debate, which truck is better?). BTW, I manage a development team and they are on iOS and PC. The PC is mainly to test how our development appears in IE8. Don't even get me going about that crappy browser.
  6. iOS 10.10 Yosemite runs great! :-)

    Sad News

I just found out from JoeD yesterday that Jimmy Walker has passed. Jimmy was an icon on Crooked creek and the go to guy for shuttles and information. He was always very helpful, friendly, and willing to bend your ear for a little while. Many times we stood ready to launch our canoe while Jimmy quietly regaled us with advice, wisdom and local stories. He will be missed.

    My struggle

I am so sorry to hear of your struggles. Hopefully you have the occasional chance to get out fishing and clear your head.
  9. Nicely made. Go catch some!!!!
  10. 8 is normal for us in the summer. Gotta get things done before dark. Our schedule gets earlier in the winter months. When my daughter was in school we had dinner around 6 to leave time for homework. Times change, circumstances are variable. My families dinner time has evolved.
  11. Really? You're scared of someone wanting to promote safe boating? I understand the difficulties, I have owned many boats and it would be hard to test all the boat owners out there. I just think if folks had to prove there operational skill (Including loading the boat) it would help prevent some avoidable accidents. Would there still be idiots? Of course there would, but hopefully it would improve the situation. Could you imagine if anyone who wanted to drive a car didn't have to do anything more than purchase one. Oh wait, I don't have to imagine it, it would look like any major lake on a busy weekend. :-)
  12. I think we need government involvement. The idea of turning people loose in boats with no training is crazy. I personally think everyone who operates a boat should go through an actual drivers test for the operation (and loading) of a boat. Implementing this would be a PITA but it would possibly save some lives.
  13. Wow. Nice fish!
  14. Post the photos. Maybe someone on here will recognize something in the images.
  15. That's the way I read the legislation too. "2. No person shall operate an off-road vehicle within any stream or river in this state, except that off-road vehicles may be operated within waterways which flow within the boundaries of land which an off-road vehicle operator owns, or for agricultural purposes within the boundaries of land which an off-road vehicle operator owns or has permission to be upon, or for the purpose of fording such stream or river of this state at such road crossings as are customary or part of the highway system. All law enforcement officials or peace officers of this state and its political subdivisions or department of conservation agents or department of natural resources park rangers shall enforce the provisions of this subsection within the geographic area of their jurisdiction." I agree with SpoonDog, it all goes down stream and will have a negative impact.
  16. That's what I thought too. I am not surprised it would happen on a small scale but this is a large scale abuse of the environment.
  17. The stream fisherman in me cringes when I see this. Looking at the map this creek feeds Indian Creek off of the Meramec in the St Clair area. Moonlight Racing Park: https://www.facebook.com/moonlightracing1 Location: 21225 State Hwy A Sullivan, Missouri

    Fine Dining Flop

I agree with most of this, but gotta disagree with rps taking issue with Gluten-free. Since I suffer from this allergy and any Gluten will make me sick I do appreciate when a menu lists the ingredients and the preparation of the food. Without the listing of Gluten-free there are many of us that can't eat out without the fear of severe intestinal distress.
  19. Well said Ness. This forum is like family. Sorry to hear of his passing. Thank you Phil for providing this forum for us, the people contributing here are a good group. Wayne's contributions will be missed.

    Senko de Mayo

That's better. Hurts my neck to look sideways. :-)
  21. ...Launching a boat with autopilot Minn Kota. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=y5ejwRj9t1Q
  22. Nice fish. Good luck tomorrow. I'm not a Striper fisherman so pardon this question, but can Stripers be released? Is it just a catch and keep thing cause they fight to the death? Seems like they are always kept so I guess there is a reason they aren't released.
  23. The "d" is the first initial of Joe's last name.
