  6. Jim and I had an adventurous beginning to our trip, including a blown out trailer hub, but we eventually got to the lake for some winter bass fishing. Location: 39 Bridge to Campbell Point WT: 49-52 degrees Structure: Main lake bluff ends with the point deeper on the main lakeside. Timber seemed to hold more fish. Boat positioned in 40-70 feet of water depending on the rise of the point. Baits: 3/8 oz jig head with a 2.8 Keitch (Electric Shad or Pro Blue Red) Set Up: Falcon Cara Swimjig Rod, Lews LFS Speed Spool 6:8.1, 20lb Power Pro, and 8 foot 10lb Berkley 100% fluorocarbon leader. We started Friday morning looking for any schooling fish, but I think we started a bit too late. We went into Mill Creek for a bit, but not luck there. Next location we stopped at was a deep point, and I caught a small spotted bass on the little swimbait. Moved on to the next point, and caught a 16 inch spot on the second cast, and started to figure out the bite. I was throwing the bait up on the point, counting it down 12-15 seconds and crawling the bait across the bottom. At one point, I counted in my head 7-8 seconds before I turned my reel handle a full turn. At one point, Jim remarked, "I have never seen you fish this slow." The bite would load up or a slight "tick". Only had a few all weekend that thumped the bait. However, all the of the fish we hooked solid in the mouth. Friday, we caught and released 10-12 fish. Jim even caught two decent fish on an A-rig in the afternoon. Saturday, with the dead calm water and blue bird skies, we made the decision to go deep right away. We headed back to the deep points, and we caught another 10-12 fish in the morning all on the little swimbait. In the afternoon, I went solo and headed to the mouth of Mill Creek. One of the points has pole timber, and I sat off of it in 50-60 feet of water on the shallower side. In 90 minutes, I caught and released 12-15 fish with 8 being solid keeper spots. Overall, it was a great trip and I learned much about fishing deep. I still want to learn to catch more fish vertically and how to really take advantage of my Helix units. Looking forward to our next adventure on the lake. See you all in 2020 at the OA One Fish Tournament!
  7. Job well done men! Jim and I are looking forward to next weekend!
  8. Happy Thanksgiving from Lee’s Summit! Down next weekend to bother the fish!
  9. Loved the competition this year! I went for the record breaker on the last two casts and came up short! Already looking forward to 2020! Congrats Bassmaster!
  10. Nothing like swinging on a 5lber and MISS!!!! That was my day at Tenkiller! Hopefully my boys catch them today.
  11. I think Top 5 was great!
  12. This is great information, however, I am not seeing the link to the graphs. Thank you for this powerful info!
  13. Here is my thoughts, and I am consistently on the lake 10 days a year. I have a "milk run" of spots on the lake that produce fish for me. However, I am not getting fish there everytime. I have had times where I check the spot, throw a couple casts, and move on if I am not getting bit. Then, I return later in the day and sometimes the fish are feeding again. Overall, I think you have to be flexible and not focus on one area for long periods of time. Stay mobile until you get bit. Here is how I tend to fish a point or bluff end: aggressive bait first (jerkbait or topwater), then a more moderate subtle presentation ( swimbait, bigger jig, etc.), finally, I hit the Ned or finesse worm. This approach has worked for me and I do okay in the Shell Knob area. Just my personal thoughts and experiences.
  14. May be best to look on Bass Boat Central on the Electronics Sale for nice used one.
  15. Good Luck, Blessings, and thank you for all the contributions to the forum!
  16. I want to take my son to wade and kayak for Smallies. What is the best Missouri stream for numbers and size. We have done the Elk, and catch numbers but not much size. We would prefer a quiet section too.
  17. That is so awesome!
  18. Grab your 65lb braid and flipping stick! Time for close quarter combat!
  19. incredible. Hoping this is the worst. Wish you all the best.
  20. I had a great trip on the lake again this past weekend. The fishing changed continuously, and I was able to catch fish a number of different ways. WT: 61 (mornings)--68 (afternoon) Clarity: 15-18 feet (white jig test) Average Depth: boat was 20-50 feet depending on technique used FRIDAY: Based on recent reports, I started on bluff ends with a Keitch 2.8 (Electric Shad or Pro Blue Red Pearl). I placed my boat in 40-50 feet and through parallel and across the point. Counted it down 5-10 and slow steady retrieve. Rod would thump or just load up. Most of the fish were fat Spotted Bass (12-16 inches). I was only catching 2-3 per point. I also caught a bonus 17.5 inch Walleye. I was really hoping to get 2-3 more keeper Walleye for dinner. I also threw a Ned, Neko Rig, and Fluke up shallow. I was able to catch fish, but not as consistent as the deeper fish. Later in the afternoon, I fished one pocket and caught a nice 3lb Smallie up shallow in a white Menace (lost this fish 2 times). Two cast later, I hooked a 3lb Largemouth on a white fluke. I finished the day with another 3lb Largemouth out of another pocket where we have our dock. Overall, it was a fun day. SATURDAY: Started out with a Redfin, and I caught 3 smaller fish, but it was not getting much interest. I went back to the Keitech and continued to catch fish throughout the morning. When the wind came up, I tried a jerkbait and caught one small fish. I went in for lunch, and had to think of a new plan. I decided to throw on a War Eagle 3/8 oz Spinnerbait with a 3.8 Keitech and fish the windy pockets. Overall, I think it saved my day. In the first, 15 minutes I had 4 fish including a 3lb Largemouth and a nice Smallie. The bite was jarring, and fun. I caught probably 12-15 fish. Late in the afternoon, I went to the back of Mill Creek and threw a Wobblehead with a Red/Watermelon Menace. I hooked 4 fish in a short period including a 3lb Smallie. The day ended really well. SUNDAY: I went to a point with some deeper cedars and threw a 110 for a bit, and the first fish was a nice healthy Largemouth. It was the only jerkbait fish of the day, but I did miss two other hits. The best fish of the day was a 19" Walleye (went home to a very excited grandmother). The colder temps had an impact on the fishing for me early. Fish seemed less active, and I was not getting as many bites on the Keitech. However, I did catch more fish on the Wobblehead in about 10-15 feet range. I only had a half day to fish, so I can not say how the fishing was the remainder of the day. Best Pattern: Longer points leading to spawning pockets. Wind blown pockets. Best baits: 2.8 Keitech, Wobblehead (3/8oz) with a creature bait, 3/8 oz Spinnerbait, and white fluke. I think you can fish the way you want to and still catch fish. This is just what I enjoy. However, be prepared to change techniques with the conditions. Thank you all for the information, I hope this will help someone have a blessed trip with family and friends in the near future.
