  1. Grocery store checker told me this one today. It's definitely a JF joke. @Johnsfolly What is the difference between an elephant and a Zippo? One is heavy, and one is a little lighter.
  2. I noticed it was pretty hazy out on the lake yesterday. Watched the weather report last night and apparently it is smoke from the west coat fires getting pushed here by the jet stream. It's going to be around for the next couple of days.
  3. Never have caught a seabass. They look like tautog.
  4. Didn't know they fin clipped hatchery cats. Biologists sampled the Beaver Lake Channel Catfish population in June and are in the middle of a stock contribution study. The AGFC annually stocks 60,000 Channel Catfish (average size of 9 inches) in Beaver Lake to supplement the natural spawn and provide better fishing opportunities. To evaluate stock contribution, AGFC staff from Charlie Craig Hatchery and Fisheries district biologists have marked the stocked Channel Catfish by taking an adipose fin clip. Staff can determine how these fish contribute to the fishery by sampling the lake with baited hoop nets. A total of 240,000 Channel Catfish have been marked in the past 4 years! In addition to the hoop nets. In addition to using baited hoop needs, staff are conducting an angler survey from March 2021 to February 2022 on Beaver Lake to get more information on these stocked fish. Channel catfish with adipose fin Channel catfish with adipose fin removed (adipose fin clip) We do not need any information from anglers who catch a fin clipped Channel Catfish. However, it is nice to see stocked fish contributing to someone’s stringer!! Send us a picture to jonthan.stein@agfc.ar.gov. Stay tuned for more channel catfish project updates!
  5. Seattle Sonics had one as a mascot, pretty well trained, it could do dunks off one of those little trampolines during half-time. Don't know what happened to it after the Sonics moved to OKC and became the Thunder.
  6. Got the boat away from the launch about 6 AM, it is starting to get light later. As I cruised by Emerald Beach on my way down lake, there were five rigs parked there and the boats were gone so I was a bit late. On my way back about 1030 AM, all those guys were gone. I headed right to a deep long dock that hangs out over 50 feet of water, it's one of those places that usually holds bass this time of year. Shad, shade, deep water, and overhead cover - everything a bass needs. Not long after I got there, a top water bite broke out, it lasted maybe 45 minutes but they were going strong. Mostly spotted bass, but there were a few keeper sized largemouth with them. I boated one of the keepers, lost another one that jumped and tossed the bait and caught some less than 15" spots and a couple of largemouth. Once the top water bite got slow, I started swimming a 3.3 Keitech, counting it down on a ten count then slowly retrieving it with pauses, a lot of the bites came when it dropped on the pause. More bass less that 15" again, but caught a couple of nice white bass. About 8 AM things got real slow - fished a few spots on my way back to Big M with the Keitech and picked up a handful of spots. Got back to Big M about 1130, loaded up and headed home. Ended up with 20 bass and a couple of whites. WT - 87 Lots of rec boats out there by 10 AM.
  7. Seems to target jerkbait fishermen.
  8. For Bull Shoals questions, this is the guy you want to ask: jeremy.risley@agfc.ar.gov
  9. I emailed John Stein who works for AGFC District One about walleye stocking in the TR tribs, here is his answer: It has been several years since we stocked Walleye in the Kings or White rivers and the few times that we have, it was surplus Walleye. These populations are doing very well naturally. The biologist from Missouri has sampled the James River arm of Table Rock and came up to help us on the Kings and White rivers. The numbers of Walleye that run into these rivers is incredible. We collected 251 Walleye per hour a couple of nights ago on the Upper White River out of the Highway 45 Bridge (Beaver Lake Twin Bridges Access). On the Kings River, we have collected over 350 per hour and see some trophy fish. Our sampling method (electrofishing) does not collect every fish. We only get a small sample of the Walleye that are there (if we collect 75 in 10 minutes, we are probably missing another 75). We cannot net fast enough to collect all the fish. We have seen similar numbers in the White below Beaver Lake. Also, we have observed fish that were 14 lbs. These high catch rates are corresponding with the increased popularity of the Walleye fishery in the spring. Stocking at this point is not needed in these river arms and Walleye are doing very well on their own. Thanks for the question and if you have any others, please let me know.
  10. One thing I have seen several of the pros do with that live image stuff is watch fish react to their jerkbaits. They can see them following and adjust their retrieve to what it takes to get them to bite. Watched a musky fishing show where they had the live image transducer on the side of the boat, they were on a river and would just scan the water on the side of the boat until they spotted a musky, then they'd stop and fish for it.
  11. Classic!
  12. Buddy of mine caught a 7.5 a few days ago spooning a dock.
  13. It's been my experience that unpressured wild trout are stupid. They are very spooky, but if you can sneak up on them, they'll bite.
  14. Greek salad fixings, tomatoes and cukes are from the garden.
  15. Wow, amazes me there are no other fishermen.
  16. Some beautiful fish! What is access like - if you get in at an access point are you pretty free to roam up and down the stream?
  17. Recently here in Bella Vista a man was convicted for killing a neighbors dog, it was a felony and he got some jail time, something like 3 months. The dog was a barker and lived in a house somewhere behind where the guy who shot it lived, dog was out on the back deck constantly barking, day and night. The shooter had called the police numerous times about it, and all the cops could do was warn the dogs owners. Finally the guy got fed up and shot the dog with a pellet gun, the wound got infected and the dog died. Charges were filed and the guy was convicted. Can't remember if he pleaded or it went before a jury. I felt for the guy, bum deal in my opinion.
  18. Man, those are some great fish!
  19. That's a good day. talked to someone that fished the upper end today. Foggy there too, and water temp 89. Once the fog burned off it was an oven out there.
  20. Nice ones - you guys are doing good for this time of year.
  21. Just don't take him fly fishing..
  22. Speaking of eating bugs....
