  1. I'm neutral on this one. Several years ago they changed the limit on spots on Beaver Lake. No minimum size and you can keep up to 10. I don't know if it has had any impact. I'd like to see a slot limit on spots, 12-15". If so few make it over 15", then those fish should be released.
  2. 60 degrees they said, sunny they said. HA! We saw a huge flock of cormorants several miles below the Cape. Hundreds of them, if not more. All those things do is eat fish.
  3. I think top of flood pool is 931. I hope we don't see that.
  4. I heard, third hand, that it was lower lake over deep water, but the fish were shallow.
  5. Very nice! One of these days I would like to fish that lake.
  6. This could be you Marty:
  7. Based on my observation, people have wised up to those trees around here. I don't see any being planted. New trees planted around the trails and roadways tend to be redbuds, willow oaks and maples.
  8. Way to go buddy!
  9. I've heard, 3rd hand, that the whites are not running in numbers on the James or the Kings.
  10. Last night I was pretty beat after getting up early and fishing all day, so I was sound asleep at 7 PM. Woke up wide awake at 3 AM and decided, what the heck, might as well go fishing. Today was tough, there was an early bite, then it was just dead out there. Wind really whipped up around 11 AM, so I stopped throwing the finesse stuff and broke out the cranks. Caught a half dozen on cranks, but I covered a lot of water to catch them. 11 total bass, 2 were keepers, and both of the keepers were largemouth. Caught 5 on a little 2.5" tube and the half dozen on cranks. The fish I caught were all shallow in less than 10 FOW. WT was 57 when I left.
  11. Nice ones! Send some of that rain this way please, it is needed.
  12. If you are going to poach, for crying out loud, don't take a selfie of the poaching and send it to the world.
  13. They did, caught a couple right before I left. There was a little bit of a lull mid-morning, but it is possible that I was in the wrong spot at that time.
  14. I fished from 7 AM until 4 PM today and I had to work for my fish, caught 20 bass, 5 were keepers. All spots and a few smallmouth. Ned rig was best bait with a couple of 2.8 swimbait fish thrown in. Some of the fish were really shallow. Most were in 10 FOW with a few out at 20. Fish were scattered, did not find any schools. One of those days where I moved around a lot, fished a lot of places. No largemouth, should be catching a few, but not. WT 52 to start, 55 when I left.
  15. Good seeing you get them, they seem to be moving into more of a spring pattern.
  16. Well it was another day of me being the net boy for Dutch's fish. He caught a 3.25 smallie and a 22" walleye. I got to net them. The bite was decent today compared to what it has been for us this year. We caught 31 bass and the lone walleye. We had 5 keeper bass with the smallmouth being the biggest. Ned rigs were our best bait, with a couple on a 2.8 swimbait and a couple on a 2.5" tube. For whatever reason most of our fish came from rocky or gravel banks. We could not get any around trees. We caught them in 10-20 FOW for the most part. Early in the AM we found a bunch of bass on a 30 foot deep flat. They just would not bite for us - we caught a half dozen of them, lost a few more. Really light biters, we threw everything at them with the Ned working best, but it was frustrating being over quite a few fish and not being able to figure them out. Quite a few loons around. We came across a half-eaten gizzard shad floating on top and once we got about 50 yards away from it, an eagle swooped in and got it. Always a neat sight to see. If you like redbuds, they are blooming now. WT 52 Here's the fish I netted:

  19. Thanks - I was just curious about why those little combs went for so much money; I didn't want to buy any.
  20. Bobber down! I like watching local fishing. 👍
  21. I was in the local Harps today. They had honeycombs for sale, they were bite sized, maybe an inch and a half square. They were priced at $7.99 each. Seems excessive to me.
  22. That's a good deal, getting out there with your son. And also, good to see you back in the fishing world.
  23. When I was in Basic we had to go to UCMJ "training" a couple of times, and I think it was 2 hours at a time. It was in a hot stuffy room and they had us sitting crowded together on those lousy folding metal chairs. It was in the afternoon and of course we'd been training all day. There was a JAG officer seated at a desk in front of us and he read to us, in a monotone, the UCMJ. It was a battle to stay awake. The drill sergeants stood along the walls and watched us during this training. Anyone that nodded off was sent outside and made to run around the building holding their rifle above their head with a drill sergeant yelling at them the whole time. It's not an easy deal to spend 10 minutes running holding a rifle with your arms fully stretched out above your head. Fortunately, I was able to stay awake, but it was a struggle.
  24. Well, well, Hogs moving on to the Sweet 16. Some of the pundits had picked St. Johns to win it all, I had not seen them play until today, but Arkansas looked more physical, athletic and bigger overall than St. Johns.
  25. Sorry to see Mizz take the loss. I was hoping for an unlikely but possible AR vs MO in the Sweet 16. AR won, but it was not an easy win. Next up St. Johns. I give Arkansas a puncher's chance in that one.
